Well, I'm getting bored with no news on the Reed front and looking at the same mocks here, so I decided to post this mock that Walter Football did a few days ago and see what some of you think. Would you be happy with this?

The latest Walter Football draft Has the Texans selecting:

1st Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee

2nd Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU

3rd D.J. Swearinger, S, South Carolina

4th Ryan Otten, TE, San Jose St.

5th Oday Aboushi, OG/OT, Virginia

I'm still not sold on the Texans drafting Hunter. Not because he's no good, but because I think Allen and Hopkins are more NFL ready. And now, with Walter gone, it becomes more important to get that #2 WR that's as ready as possible. I think if Allen or Hopkins are there at #27 that's who they take.

Minter in the 2nd would be great but I don't think he lasts that long. Walter Football had the Texans taking Minter in the 1st before. Not sure why they dropped him, although most of the ILB's seem to be dropping (Ogletree, Te'o, etc..). It's just not a very good class. My guess is, that if Minter is there in the 2nd they take him, if not, they may look for a NT or OLB.

Swearinger in the 3rd would be great. Otten in the 4th seems a little early but not too bad. Not sure if the Texans will look at TE this early though. I'm hoping for Williams in the 5th, or maybe Lucas Reed or Zach Sudfeld in the 7th. Any of those 3 guys could be a steal in this draft. Aboushi in the 5th would be good. He seems like he's made for the zone blocking scheme and would be a good fit.
 
Add a 3rd comp pick to that mix and I think that's a good start to a draft. I would go oline with the comp pick and try to grab a RT or guard.
 
I would take Allen at #27.

I would trade down for either Hunter or Hopkins.

At the end of the day though, there are several receivers to choose from so I don't worry too much about it.

Yeah, the comp picks will change all the "official" mocks, but we won't know what we've got until probably sometime in early April. Although, the 3rd round comp for Mario should be a done deal. If the Draft fell this way for the Texans, I'd probably go with the DT using the 3rd round comp pick. Maybe Bennie Logan, if he's still there.

Thought of this. And, depending on how the Draft goes, it could be a real possibility for the Texans. Not sure how much they can trade back and still have Hopkins on the board. Early 2nd at most. Maybe Eagles or Cards trade up for a QB.

I think it will depend on how many FA receivers get signed.
If all or most of them find a home, chances are the receivers will get pushed down draft boards.
 
I would cut Schaub, run the no huddle offense (early in the game or when we need to play catch-up) with Keenum.

Draft 3 receivers; use the rest for defense; then get the cooler ready to enjoy some shoot-outs (or massacre.) :cow:

I hope this happens, and they push Allen right down to #27. I know the Vikes were one team that probably would have drafted a WR in the 1st if they hadn't signed Jennings.

Update! The compensatory picks come out tomorrow 3/18/13! Hope it's good news (4 picks) for the Texans!

27. Houston Texans: Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
The Texans need an understudy to Andre Johnson and Hunter would be a great fit. He has good size plus enough speed to stretch the field. Hunter could continue to regain his speed and explosiveness while learning behind Johnson.

Hunter wasn't completely back to his old form in 2012, and yet he still was one of the better wide receivers in college football this season. Hunter was red hot late in the year with massive games against Troy and Missouri. He finished 2012 with 73 receptions for 1,083 yards and nine touchdowns.

Hunter (6-4, 200) looked poised for a mammoth season in 2011, posting 16 receptions for 302 yards and two scores through the first two games. However against Florida, on a routine 12-yard catch early in the third game, he went down with a torn ACL following a leaping reception. It was a surprising injury as Hunter did not take a shot to the knee, or have another player fall into his leg in a manner that typically causes knee ligament tears.

Prior to the injury, Hunter looked like a truly rare receiver who is extremely tall but has the speed of a burner wide out. In a lot of ways his game resembled Randy Moss. Hunter had 16 receptions for 403 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman in 2010.

57. Houston Texans: Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU
The Texans need a complement for Brian Cushing since their defense was really weak in the middle after he went down. They badly need to fortify the middle of the defense.

Minter (6-0, 246) was phenomenal in 2012. The junior was the most consistent player on the Tigers' defense, and that is saying something considering all the NFL talent on LSU's stop unit. Minter totaled 130 tackles with 15 tackles for a loss, four sacks, five passes broken up, a forced fumble and an interception. He recorded 61 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in 2011.

There is no doubt that Minter is an excellent run-defender. He attacks the line of scrimmage and is very tough about taking on blocks from offensive linemen. Additionally, Minter sheds blocks and is an excellent tackler. He covers a lot of ground with the speed to make tackles on stretch runs to the perimeter. Minter is very fast and explosive. He could be a sideline-to-sideline middle linebacker for a 4-3 NFL defense.

As for pass coverage, Minter is still improving. He gets good depth in his drops and shows the potential to play some man coverage. Minter can pick up backs out of the backfield and run with them. He is going to need to work on his ability to cover receiving tight ends in the passing-obsessed NFL. Minter certainly has the speed, but will need to work on his technique in running with them downfield. He is a good blitzer who can contribute to the pass rush, too.

Minter is fast and physical. He hits with authority and was a real difference-maker for the Tigers.

89. Houston Texans: Jordan Reed, TE, Florida
The Texans could use another tight end with Owen Daniels slowing down. Reed is a perfect fit in Houston's offense.

Reed played well for Florida and has some real play-making ability. He led them with 45 receptions for 559 yards and three touchdowns in 2012. The Gators could have gotten more out of Reed, but sophomore quarterback Jeff Driskel was inconsistent. Reed had a costly fumble inside the 10-yard line late in the fourth quarter in a close loss to Georgia.

The 6-foot-3, 236-pound Reed, a former quarterback, is still developing at tight end, and he should have returned for his senior season. Reed is a dangerous receiver, but needs to improve his blocking ability to be a three-down player. He caught 28 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns as sophomore in 2011. The redshirt junior has also been tutored by former Gators and current Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

Reed caught only six passes for 79 yards and one touchdown in 2010, but that was because Florida had him playing other positions in the majority of his snaps. For instance, he played some spread-option quarterback and completed 26 of 46 passes for 252 yards. Reed also ran for 328 yards and five touchdowns.

Top to bottom I think it's better.
I think Patterson and Allen are better prospect than Blackmon and Flloyd as they are more dynamic (both speed and quickness.)

Austin is different from Wright but both are explosive.

And there are a bunch I would take over what's his name that the Niners drafted in the first round?

This class has more speed and quickness than the last.

How would you feel if Brandon Williams was substituted for Reed?

Doubt Amerson and Williams will be there in rds 2-3. Probably it's an either/or situation.

Brandon Williams might go in the 2nd round because it only take one crazy GM to over value a guy, but IMO he should be a 3rd rounder. He's making a huge leap from D2 to the NFL, and while he plugs the middle and plays the run well he doesn't offer alot when it comes to rushing the QB. He's got alot to learn and is a minor project player that will need to rotate with someone at NT by whomever drafts him and will probably take at least a year to become a good consistent starter level player.

I'd like that better. Williams probably won't be there later in the 3rd, and Jordan Reed to me is another OD or Graham as far as size. If they went TE in the 2nd I'd go with Vance McDonald who is moving up draft boards, and is a bigger TE with a lot of upside.

gets Amerson; trade the 3rd from #27 & Texan own #89 for early 20s second round for Brandon Williams; then use Texans own second round #57 for Da'rick Rogers .

IMO, Aboushi will probably go in the late 2nd or early 3rd. He had a bad Combine but he had a great season and played LT very well, some guys are just better football players than workout warriors. He has great size for the position and smart teams judge players based mostly on game film not Combine numbers. The Combine is used to solidify what they see on film.

Amerson played CB in college but I think he'll play FS in the NFL. We need some quality depth in our secondary at whatever position they play him at. JoJo is getting much more expensive soon, KJ will be an expensive FA soon, McCain is a good nickle nothing more, and Harris has potential but if he were good he'd be this years nickle instead of re-signing McCain. You have to draft a CB at least a year before your ready for them to play. CB is the second hardest position to translate from college to the NFL behind QB. Like Rick Smith said "You can never have to many good CB's".

The Texans have needed a No. 2 receiver for years, but now that Andre Johnson is into his 30s, it won't be long before they have to secure a new No. 1 wideout for Matt Schaub.

As Charlie reported recently, Justin Hunter is receiving tons of first-round interest.

28. Denver Broncos: Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
Mike Klis of the Denver Post recently wrote that the Broncos are looking for larger cornerbacks to copy Seattle's model. Johnthan Banks certainly fits the bill at 6-2, so he could be targeted with this pick.

The Broncos don't have a current need for a cornerback, but they definitely will soon. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie will be a free agent next spring, while Champ Bailey will be due $9 million in a walk year, so he'll probably be cut if he plays like he did against the Ravens.

29. New England Patriots: Jesse Williams, NT, Alabama
The Patriots don't have much of an interior pass rush. They may spend an early draft choice on a complement for Vince Wilfork. Jesse Williams has the size and scheme versatility that Bill Belichick likes in his defensive linemen.

30. Atlanta Falcons: Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington
The Falcons are really hurting in two areas: defensive end and cornerback. The latter is a huge issue with Dunta Robinson gone and Brent Grimes appearing as though he'll sign elsewhere. Desmond Trufant fills a need and happens to be one of the top players available.

31. San Francisco 49ers: Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame
The 49ers obviously have Vernon Davis as one of Colin Kaepernick's top targets, but Jim Harbaugh loves utilizing multiple tight ends. He used to have Delanie Walker as a No. 2 tight end option, but Walker signed with the Titans this offseason.

A second tight end is a bit of a luxury pick, but with so many selections, the 49ers can afford to make one like this. Plus, Tyler Eifert is one of the top players available.

32. Baltimore Ravens: Keenan Allen, WR, California

This pick is all about figuring out which player will fall to the Ravens. Ozzie Newsome frequently scoops up plummeting prospects, and there's no reason to believe that this year will be any different. The tumbling prospect could easily be Keenan Allen because he's injured and hasn't been able to work out.

Allen makes a ton of sense for the Ravens. He would fill the void created by the Anquan Boldin trade to the 49ers. It's also worth noting that Daniel Jeremiah, who used to work for Baltimore, listed Allen as a top option for the Ravens on Path to the Draft.

Texans take Hunter and pass on Allen!!! I wouldn't be happy if the Draft fell like this. As a matter of fact, I didn't like hardly any of the Texans picks in this mock. Bostic in the 3rd is OK and Mauti in the 5th is OK, but I don't think they need to draft both. As for Reed (6'3" 240 lbs), he's basically OD and Graham part 3. They need a bigger TE that can block. No, I don't like this at all!

Can't see the hype about Allen..yeah he's got the size, but aside from that he doesn't impress me on tape at all. Looks slow, route running, hands and blocking are average to below average. Reminds me of Crabtree/Boldin without the great hands those 2 have. He's a possession guy at best. I'd take at least 4 other guys before i looked at him.
 
They updated their mock on 4/3. I like this one better than the last but it still needs work IMO.

1) Justin Hunter, WR, Tenn. (6'4", 200 lbs) They are definitely stuck on Hunter with this pick. I'm still not sold!

2) Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford (6'5", 249 lbs) This would be much better than their last pick at #2, Jordan Reed, but I don't see how he will fall this far. He's projected to go late 1st to early 2nd, but you never know. I'd be ecstatic if the Texans picked him but I think they will go in a different direction and get a TE later.

3) Jon Bostic, ILB, Florida (6'1", 245 lbs) Same as last mock. Not a bad pick and fills a need.

3) JJ Wilcox, S, Georgia So. (6'0", 213 lbs) Changed from Rambo. I don't know anything about Wilcox except he played 1 yr at SS and was invited to the Senior Bowl. He's a project and Ed Reed and Manning can show him the ropes.

4) Brennan Williams, OT, N. Carolina (6'6", 318 lbs) Changed from Aboushi. Don't know much about this pick either. He had torn labrum and didn't workout at the Combine. He's raw and will be a project but could be a steal if he passes his medical. His Dad played 11 yrs in the NFL as a DE.

5) Michael Mauti, ILB, Penn St. (6'2", 243 lbs) Same as last mock, and I still feel the Texans will not draft 2 ILB's. He also has a medical issues as well.

Overall, I like this mock better than the last, but it still didn't address the NT position and I think the Texans will take a NT/DT somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd round. Would love to get Ertz but I don't think he will last that long, and I don't think the Texans will draft a TE that early, but you never know.

THIS IS NOT A 2014 NFL MOCK DRAFT.

This is a 2014 NFL NOT Draft - a compilation of popular mock picks that, in my opinion, will not happen.

For the record, I was wrong about zero "not" picks in my 2012 and 2013 Not Mocks

  1. Houston Texans: Khalil Mack, DE/OLB, Buffalo
    As you can see in our NFL Rumors page, Adam Schefter said that the Texans will pick Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack if they stay at No. 1. Mack could be the choice if Houston moves down - the Rams will strongly consider him at No. 2 - but he won't be the top selection. Peter King recently wrote that the Texans' general manager prefers Mack over Clowney, but that is B.S.
  2. St. Louis Rams: Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
    I'm not messing around here! Greg Robinson is a popular selection at No. 2, but Charlie Campbell's recent report contradicts that. If you missed it, the Rams are deciding between Khalil Mack or Sammy Watkins at No. 2 barring a trade or Clowney being available. Besides, Jeff Fisher doesn't believe in spending early selections on tackles.
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
  4. Cleveland Browns: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
    It sounds like the Browns will be targeting a quarterback at No. 4. It could be Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles or Derek Carr. It's not going to be Teddy Bridgewater, who is likely to fall into Round 2. In fact, one NFC personnel executive told us that Bridgewater is a fourth-round guy.
  5. Oakland Raiders: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
    Johnny Manziel will go in the 3-13 range, according to Adam Schefter. I'm not feeling him to the Raiders though. It just doesn't seem like a good fit. His skill set doesn't match the offensive scheme, and there might be some trepidation about his off-the-field lifestyle.
  6. Atlanta Falcons: Anthony Barr, DE/OLB, UCLA
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
  8. Minnesota Vikings: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
    Johnny Manziel is a popular pick here - or at least he was - but he is just a poor fit for Norv Turner's offense. The Vikings prefer Blake Bortles and Derek Carr over Johnny Football.
  9. Buffalo Bills: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
  10. Detroit Lions: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State
  11. Tennessee Titans: Any Quarterback
  12. New York Giants: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
    Of all the "not" picks, this one has the greatest chance of happening...
  13. St. Louis Rams: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
    There has been some speculation that the Rams could take Johnny Manziel will their second opening-round selection. I wouldn't say that's impossible, but I don't think it's very likely. Sam Bradford's contract will make that difficult. It also seems like St. Louis' coaching staff wants to give Bradford another chance.
  14. Chicago Bears: Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville
  15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State
  16. Dallas Cowboys: Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State
  17. Baltimore Ravens: Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State
  18. New York Jets: Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina
  19. Miami Dolphins: Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama

  27. New Orleans Saints: Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State
  28. Carolina Panthers: Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech

I do frequent their mocks but I don't think they have gotten our pick right..ever. I do agree that Cleveland and Minnesota need QBs and that fits my trade down hope. #4 to Texans then that pick to Vikings so they can select Bortles. #8 & #26 plus a few other good picks.

This is a NOT draft. It's who these teams WON'T draft. It's not saying Clowney will fall out of the first; it's saying that there isn't a team out there that wouldn't be happy to get him if they have the chance.

WF has been correct in their NOT mocks for us 100% of the time: not Alec Ogletree(2013), not any OL(2012), not Prince Amukamura(2011).

WF has also been 100% correct on the #1 overall pick since 2003, which is as old as I could find.
