What position do you see Vince Young playing in the NFL ?

Does he play QB ?...he's kinda like Vick .

Or does he move to reciever like Matt Jones ?


Before the start of the season I'd have said point blank he would have to change positions because his passing skills were lacking . But after watching the last two games he's changed my mind , the improvement he's made in the passing game has been HUGE .

Probably the best all around athlete in the NCAA right now .

Mack Browns biggest recruiting job for the coming off season ..... convince Vince to stay for his senior season .

I've always said i'd take him as a QB no doubt. But clearly after seeing The Ohio State dare him to beat them through the air and actually DOING IT. He's ready. So at this point if I hear anyone say he can't pass or can't do this or can't do that they just don't like the guy, period.

I like Vince Young. I think he could be one of the great players in the NFL. I just don't think it's as a QB. A WR, maybe. I think he could become the 2nd coming of Eric Dickerson as a RB. But a balanced-line double-wing option offense isn't going to work in the NFL. And that's what Vince can execute as a QB.

What's the difference between Vince and Matt Jones as a QB? Vince is a more instinctive runner. And Jones didn't get a sniff as a QB in the pros. If Young had received the type of coaching that schools like USC or Miami provide, he might have been on track to be an NFL QB. But right now, I can't see Vince QBing a NFL team. Period.

I'd be kind if I said Young's passing mechanics were horrible. He's a great college player, but a lot of great college players have had to switch positions in the NFL.

It would take years to turn Young into a NFL QB. Why would an organization try to do that when Vince has Pro Bowl potential at another position(s)?

I'm gonna agree with kbourda. When he had to throw at the end, he did so effectively. Lots of college QBs have bad throwing mechanics that have to be fixed in the NFL. One of 'em starts for the Texans now.

Vince has already stated that hes a QB and that thats what hes going to play in the NFL, and hes not going to negotiate on that, and plenty of QBs had bad throwing motions, for example Phillip Rivers, and our own David Carr even threw side arm quite a bit his rookie year, plus at 6'6'' it realy doesnt matte if he throws side arm, he still throws over everybody.

Years?!?!?!?! Kinda like our own QB right? Three going on four years counting...... I see your point. Why would an NFL franchise waste their time like that. And spare me the expansion and bad line stuff.

Yes, and the large majority of them never play QB in the NFL. Young's release point is fixable. What about his windup prior to his release? QB's don't get that kind of time from the decision to throw to the ball leaving his hand. Vince has a strong deep arm, but he throws softballs on intermediate and short routes. And with all of those faults, Young isn't accurate.

Say what you want about David Carr now, but he was an accomplished passer in college. Vince Young & David Carr are not in the same galaxy as college passers.

I don't know what you are implying. As I stated earlier, I like Vince Young. He seems to be a great guy, a leader, and he's a wonderful athlete. I do think he's been poorly coached at UT. That's not hatred, that's my opinion. And I've never inferred any hatred in my posts on this topic. Buddy.

Well I dont know what game you saw, but I just saw a QB who supposedly cant throw accurately, jsut go out and pass for 270 yards and 2 TDs against one of the best defenses in the NCAA, and thats without a good go-to WR, and players dropping passes. He pretty much just proved that he can throw the ball and do it well, when he has time.

Last season i was of the opinion that Young wouldnt play QB in the NFL because he just wasnt ... Didnt .... possess the skills neccessary to do so .
But after watching how far he's come as a passer since then .... I begin to wonder if maybe I was wrong .... He's improved by leaps and bounds .... Throwing motion .... can be fixxed , release point ... can be fixxed . The only type of routes I see him having trouble with are slants and quick outs where he's been throwing .... softballs . If he can start putting some heat behind those throws I really think he can be an NFL QB .
Yes , a lot of his flaws can be attributed to coaching but a lot of this is linked to the type of offense that Texas runs ....they are a run first team , in fact the only QB I can remember from Texas that was a PURE pocket passer is Simms ..... But he had some weapons to throw to .
IF he were at Purdue or USC we wouldnt be having this conversation because they run NFL style offenses .

i love it, when ever a valid point is brought up the only rebuddle is you hate the guy or what game were you watching. the topic wasn't about what he is now, it's about the nfl. yeah it seems like he has made some improvements in the passing game but he still needs a lot of work, as lucky said mainly in his mechanics. would you put him in the top class of college passers after this game, no. also, he really needs to learn to put the ball away when he is wrapped up, i know the guy has some big hands but the ball is going to start coming out.

If Young had received the type of coaching that schools like USC or Miami provide, he might have been on track to be an NFL QB. But right now, I can't see Vince QBing a NFL team. Period.

My UT fanatic friend and I had a discussion about this last night. Basically we concluded Mack's job is to win as much for Texas as possible and basically screw the develop of his players. If developing players for the NFL was part of his job you wouldn't see the playcalling you did last night.

Many say he'll play WR because he hasn't proven he can throw the ball well enough to play QB. Well, has he proven he can catch the ball consistently in order to play WR?

I don't see him lighting the league on fire and will probably be a back-up for awhile. But he'll be a QB.
