damn, this fan base is so traumatized.
So Foster, who played 45 games at a SEC school, needed rookie camp, mini camp, OTAs, training camp, and 3 months into the season before being ready to play, in Kubiak's eyes. But a true junior at a Mountain West school will be seen fit to go from the opening week?Perhaps because as an undrafted free agent player, both scouts and coaches alike saw some things in Foster that needed to be worked out before he was put in the games...

Is Matthews really than much different than Arian Foster ? Maybe a little quicker, but basically the same kind of back.
Oh Kubiak/Smith won't use the first round pick on a back, any back. SureMathews has better break away speed, better quickness, better vision, he runs harder, he catches better, and he will probably be drafted in the 1st round (as opposed to Foster who was an UFA). There are a lot of differences between them.

Matthews is better than Foster, but really not by that much and look at the value: one is a first-rounder and the other is an UFA. And if you saw Foster play at the end of last year, you know he was very impressive. Besides they can get a guys as big and fast as Matthews in the 3rd round if they want -
Auburns Ben Tate at 220 knocked out a 4.43 yesterday.
Are you basing this solely of of their measurements? Because that's the only similar thing between them.

Are they the same back? No, because no two backs are the same. Do they have a similar running style? Yes, but Mathews is better than Foster at pretty much everything.
Just heard john mclain on 104.9 the horn espn austin radio with chip and sean on the bottom line. He said that everyone loves earl thomas as a big play free safety. Wonders if texans could get over their "love affair" with ryan matthews out of fresno and draft earl thomas if both were on the board at 20. Driving and texting. If someone can find a podcast or something to verify it would be appreciated.
Continuing our draft watch series, let's take a look at junior running back Ryan Mathews from Fresno State.
The Texans primary needs entering the 2010 draft are at running back, cornerback, interior offensive lineman, free safety and defensive tackle.
Mathews' current projection from NFL Draft Scout is late first to late second round with a 'stock rising' indicator.
If he performs well at the combine, there's a fair chance that Mathews doesn't make it out of the first round, thanks in part to a generally ho-hum running back draft class this year.
Mathews is one of the best all around backs in this year's draft. He has a good size-speed combo and can run inside and outside zone. He can block and can catch the ball.
I'm not sure if Texans fans will ever be ready for another first round pick out of Fresno State, but he may be one of those guys who's a reach at 20 but will be gone by 50.
Mathews missed five games in 2008 due to knee and foot injuries and missed one start in 2009 due to a concussion.
You think maybe SD would be looking to move up for matthews? I think moving back could cost us a great back.I would take Earl over Mathews if both were on the board and that's coming from someone who loves Ryan Mathews. My board pretty much falls like this . . .
1. Joe Haden
2. Earl Thomas
3. Ryan Mathews
4. Brian Price
5. Kyle Wilson
Ideally though we would trade back to #25 or #26 and pick Mathews and grab an extra 3rd in the process. This is of course assuming Thomas and Haden are off the board.

I like the way you think. If thomas is gone I have no problems with them taking matthews if no trade available.I think they might be willing to trade up if we trade back, but if that's the case then we can take Kyle Wilson. Then we have a 2nd and two 3rd's to get another RB. Maybe Ben Tate or Montario Hardesty.
It's a risk, but I would be willing to take it if it can give us an extra pick in the 3rd. That way we can get a RB, FS, CB, & a G all in the first 3 rounds. Those are our biggest needs so grabbing impact players in the first 3 rounds would be the ideal situation.
Best-case scenario, we trade back and still get Mathews. That would be sweet.
I share Lucky's concerns although I think if they took Mathews in the 1st they would get him on the field sooner rather than later. Looking at film though I love Mathews over Dwyer, Gerhart, Blount, etc. He really looks like the perfect compliment to this system. I'd take him at 20 in a heartbeat.
