I just heard that the "D" in Vernand is silent. His first name is prounounced without the D as in Vernon Maxwell.

Dom Davis was praising Morency (real player link) ...saying he looks like Barry Sanders out on the field.
"He's got exceptional quickness," Texans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer said. "He cuts very, very well, and he goes from point A to point B very, very rapidly. I wouldn't say he's a home-run hitter, but he's going to have a lot of 15 to 20-yard plays.

Last time I looked there is no silent D in the English language. He can pronounce it any he likes I suppose, but there is no basis in our language for losing the D. I suspect he went to school in Oakland. :brickwall

From now on I wish Porky to be prounonced in my new Porkbonics language. It is pronounced Poor-ree. Porkbonics has silent K's. :highfive:
 
You could make a case that D is silent when it's followed by a T, of course that's venturing into names with foreign language basis. (Rembrandt, Gil Brandt).

I realize this is a different case, I just got home from work and I'm actually kind of bored.

actually those aren't silent "D's"...its just that we as a society don't pronounce the words the correct way...or atleast that what some teacher told me once...But yeah im bored too and decided to jump in...I personally dont care, the man can spell his name anyway he wants and pronounce it anyway, but at the end of the day it's not gonna keep me tossin and turnin in the bed.

We're right on the edge of being complete lunatics by now(Well ok, some have already crossed over). If the preseason didn't start in a week, it would be over for all of us.

LOL. Just for the record, Vernand Morency is not pronounced "Vernon Maxwell", but hopefully "Barry Sanders" will be close enough.

That is what his mother calls him and she straightened me out real quick on that some years ago.

I have called him Mo every since he was drafted by the Rockies

As far as the last name...it is Mor-ren-cee

Looking forward to an exciting season.
 
I figure Houston fans can figure it out.....we already had guys with names like Heywood Jeffires, where the last name wasn't pronounced "Je-Fires", but Jeffries (as if it had been spelled correctly in the first place). :)

There are irregular silent letters all over the english language. take humboldt county, california for example. sounds like humbolt, not humbold-T. plus who's to say that vernand is an english name? vernand is actually a spanish name if you look it up. it means "courage of the bear". so how about a little thinking before you speak porky.

No matter how he spells his name, he will be able to push Davis. Double"D" will respond with a probowl year.
 
Don't think we can expect Pro Bowl numbers from Davis, though as a pair they may put up some impressive combined numbers. Just depends on how the carry ratio works out.

The key word being American.The sooner Americans realize this
and quit allowing polititions to seperate people into catagories
of race or religion the sooner we can come together as a
people and begin changes in our system that will benifit all
Americans.
Together we stand,divided we fall.(Or in this case,manipulated)

together as As Americans.Double "D" has a promising
future in the NFL and his country should be proud,
we should also celebrate his accomplishments without bias.
And hopefully we Texan fans will be celebrating alot this
year and many to come.
 
We have a ton of non-American fans...they can be proud as well....not sure what that has to do with anything. This thread went downhill fast. Too much off topic ranting...I'm killing it.
