"Jamaal Charles added 10 points for the Horns with a 10.23 in the 100 meters. It was Texas' third victory in the 100 meters at the Big 12 Championships and its first win since 2000. Charles was also the top qualifier in the 200 meters but with the meet in hand, he decided to scratch."

This guy really can fly, 10.23 is very impressive. For comparsions, Reggie Bush's fastest 100 was something in the 10.4s.

and he only a FRESHMAN, we get to see alot of him, yahoooooo

They said that about AP. He's only a SOPHMORE, everyone will get to see a lot more of him. He ran a 4.3 fourty this offseason, and has a 36in vertical with two 80lb dumbells in his hands.

I thought it was that he could jump on to a 36 inch box not that he had a 36 inch vert? still impressive though.

i didn't realize charles was that fast. does anyone know when the NCAAs are cause i would like to see jamaal against Xavier Carter to see who the fastest football player in the country is?

Carter is the fastest player in the country and it's really not even close.

I know somebody's gonna say it sooner or later but forget bush we need to snatch this guy when he comes out lol:ok:

I love Jamaal. I had a post here around the Rose Bowl where I posted Jamaal's stats with Bush's freshman stats. Jamaal had a higher ypc and more yards. The future is bright for that young man.

no xavier is he broke gatlins ncaa record for 100 and bennie brazell a bengal and teammates at lsu are very fast both olympians

think about that kick returning Xavier Carter and Bennie Brazell both olympians

that good news i didn't know that X man broke the record. yes he is fast but i think that he is more of a 200 400 guy and is just now running the 100 in college. hopefully he gets to run it at the NCAA but i think he is only going to be able to run two of them because they are back to back. i don't think ginn is faster (he is a very good hurdles guy) but he does have better lateral movement.

Running the 100m doesn't directly relate to football speed (you'll rarely run that distance without any cuts). If anything, the hurdles are more relevant because they focus on pure speed mixed with explosiveness and agility.

Looks like UT has another great running back in the making. I hope the best for him, but I also hope he doesn't fall into the pits that have taken Ricky and Cedric.

why cedric, he aint do nothing but want more money from the bears

so dont put cedric in the same pot as ricky

...and his holding out for more money affected his game and his season. The connection is that both backs have had money issues. I hope Jamaal Charles comes in with a sound agent and strikes a good deal early so that he can have a great rookie season.

His hold-out lasted as long as it did because the Bears were refusing to pay him what the market price of the 4th overall draft pick called for.

Why all the blame continues to fall on the player is baffling.

His hold out was also contributed to by the premium given to Phillip Rivers after his hold out claiming he was entitled to #1 money at the #4 spot, i.e. a dispute over what the market price of the #4 spot was due to the prior year.

This past weekend Carter qualified for the NCAA Championships by winning the 100 (10.22 seconds) and 400 (44.84) at the Mideast Regional in Knoxville, Tenn.

Charles knocked out a 10.13 in his qualifying competition, though it was
wind-aided.
"100 Meters
3. Ronald Hill – 10.13ww (10.1251) - wind – 4.5
4. Jamaal Charles – 10.13ww (10.1281) – wind 4.5"
By the way, another Longhorn football-track&field guy from nearby Splendora
is having a pretty descent Spring.
"As he did at the recent Big 12 Championships, senior Brian Robison (Splendora, Texas) completed a sweep of the discus and shot put events. On Saturday, Robison broke his own school record in the shot put with a mark of 68-3.75 (20.82m) to take first place. He edged his school-record mark set at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships by one-half of an inch."
And like the coach said, its gonna be fun following the NCAA championship
meet in CA in a couple weeks.

Oh the guy is fast enough alright. He has great vision and a great feel for his cuts. TBS......But..... those ankles are going to be a chronic problem his whole career. I wouldn't mind having him...but I've got my orange glasses off. Not going to swallow this hook either.

"100 — 1. Xavier Carter, LSU 10.09 seconds. 2. Walter Dix, Florida State, 10.18. 3. Demi Omole, Wisconsin, 10.21. 4. Travis Padgett, Clemson, 10.24. 5. Jamaal Charles, Texas, 10.27. 6. Churandy Martina, Texas-El Paso, 10.29."

While the big story in the NCAA national championship meet was no doubt LSU sprinter Xavier Carter, who is clearly a "world class" sprinter and who had the very unusual 400-100 double win (400 guys sometimes double in the 200, and 100 guys routinely double in the 200, but the 400-100 double is a rare combination), he is primarily a track guy who plays football. And from what I
can determine, a reserve player who is a WR and not a RB as Charles is.
Jamaal knocked out a 10.27 which apparently was not wind-aided, so this kid can fly and with that speed is clearly a RB that bears watching in future years. Charles is a RB, a football player who competes at track on the side, IMO.

if y'all missed it, x man put on quite the show. how he won the 100 is beyond me, he had the worst start and was about last after 50 but burned by everyone. hopefully he can show his speed on the field this year, but we have so much depth at wr i question how big of an impact he can have, atleast he will have a chance as a returner since skylar green is gone. i do think he might have a brighter future in track even though he was the #2 rated wr coming out of high school, with a good sprinting coach he can work on his start and might have a chance to challange the gatlins and powells in the 100 and 200 and even the weirners (sp) in the 400.

Well is looks like we won't get a chance to see if Xavier Carter can finally reach his potential on the field. Yesterday he decided that he will turn pro in Track and won't be at LSU in the fall. I can't say that I'm suprised by the decision but was really looking forward to seeing what he could do on the field this year.

Smart move for Carter.

Guess this makes Charles the fastest college football player in the country now. :D
