Utah to join PAC-10 (Source)

Just heard on ESPN, Utah will join the PAC-10 (not confirmed yet but from sources), giving them their 12th and final team.

Wow.
 
SALT LAKE CITY -- The Pac-10 invited Utah to become the 12th member of the conference Wednesday, two days after being turned down by Texas, Oklahoma and three other Big 12 schools.

Utah officials did not immediately say whether the invitation would be accepted. However, a source tells ESPN that Utah will join the Pac-10.

I wonder if the MWC continues the incest and takes a team from a smaller conference.
 
Damn. I admit, I am surprised at this one. The MWC is primed to gain an automatic bid, why would they jump to the PAC 10 (12)?

Because the MWC doesn't already have it's AQ status yet and the PAC does? That's just my guess though.

I think this thread needs more rampant speculation for replacement schools. I've heard Fresno St. is an option and has a rivalry with BSU already.

Yeah, but Utah wont be joining the PAC 10 for at least 2 years. So it seems a little weird to me. Whatever, its probably a money deal.

Looking at the college football landscape, I don't see the BCS "opening it's doors" for any other conferences to get into BCS Bowl games. I think any of those teams in the MWC would take an offer from an AQ conference in a heartbeat because whether the MWC will ever get an AQ status is up in the air, while other conferences have theirs locked down.
 
Oh, I get it now.

It was really going to be Utah all along. When ESPN said "Pac-10 and UT deal is imminent" they meant UTah.

Good deal, I'm happy for the Utes, they support their teams well down there in SLC.
