Using top pick on a defensive player?

Let's throw out all the Vince Young and Reggie Bush talk for a little bit. Obviously, our defense sucks also. Do any of you think the Texans may trade down and pick a guy like AJ Hawk (LB, Ohio State) or Tamba Hali (DE, Penn State)? If we did choose a defensive player, that would be 3 straight years. I like AJ Hawk, he's the type of linebacker we need. Line him up with Shantee Orr and Morlon Greenwood. I haven't seen much of Tamba Hali, but he looks like an excellent player. What do you guys think?

This is possible if we trade down, however, I think it would be a mistake to take a linebacker in the top 10 picks. LBs generally fall and are at best taken in the middle of the 1st round (unless you are an athletic freek, ala LeVar Arrington).

I think Mario Edwards would be a good pick if the Texans go defense. He could play in either the 3-4 or 4-3 scheme.

BDiddy once again you have done your homework. Urlacher was the last LB in years to be taken in the top 10 and AJ Hawk is not as good as Urlacher. Hell, I would bet he is not as good as Vilma.

Slay in the third round that high would be a waste of a pick. Slay should last till the second day with the performance he put up. Not to really knock him, because I think he is a good SS, but he cannot cover, not fast, and I am not sold on his leadership. Usually your SS is the leader of the secondary and I want a guy that is going to have the balls to get in Dunta's face if he makes a mistake. Right now I dont particularly have a SS canidate, but after the Combine I will formulate some options.

I don't know if any LB impressed me more than Abdul Hodge and his 20 tackles . Where was Rod Wright last night ? What about Virginia Techs CB who bumped the ref ?
