"USC could beat the Texans" - Best Damn Sports Show Period

I saw that too. Rob Dibble just burned us... The sad part is, that USC probally has a better pro offense than we do at the moment...

Good...I want the media to trash them every chance they get. They took a shot at Carr on the MNF pregame show, basically calling him a huge bust. Let the team see that everyone in the league is ridiculing them and maybe they'll decide to try a little harder and prove people wrong.

Thanks for dancing on our ashes. Seriously, is USC a huge rival of Fresno State? Otherwise I don't see why you would be so happy for Carr to be messing up. I hope he turns it around. I hope we never draft Leinart, because honestly I don't know if I could deal with someone that takes so much pleasure in a Houston player failing.

Yeah, were terrible! We need a complete turn around,

So many people need QBs why not trade Carr and put in
Ragone, maybe Charles had a plan after all!!

Trade carr to The bears, JETS, Miami, So many, Lions, Clev,
keeps going!! Trade aleast one of thes qb's and get a #2 WR
or a Def starter.

Who agrees? :texflag:

New coach, Key trade, still in!!

if not draft matt #1 ,, then trade carr

This is stupid. No college team would ever be able to beat any pro team.

Unless there is a college team that has top draft picks at every position, this wouldnt ever be close.

Dibble is an ***. He once said about Biggio, "He is not a hall of famer...He played in the dome where it is easy to get a double. I saw Sandberg play and he was a true hall of famer. Just look at all of his HR..." Of course he failed to mention that HRs in Wrigley are pretty simple because of the wind that always seems to be blowing out...

Don't ever put any stock in Dibble...Steriods have gotten to his brian....

Although, he could be right about the USC Vs. Texans match up....

Rod Dribble has an attitude. He's pissed that Palmer got all the underwear commercials, not him!
BTW-what the hell does Dribble know about football anyway?

One thing that people never mention about Sandberg, is he had very little range for a second baseman. I remember his long streak with no errors and it was a joke, because he rarely tried to play the balls he would have to go deep in the hole for. I'm not a Biggio fan (all that protective gear while hitting) but I respect his career and he is a HoF.

As far as USC beating the Texans....not a chance. People just forget about the size combined with speed at the NFL level. The QB might be able to hook up with Bush on occassion, but the running game would be stuffed and it wouldn't even be close on special teams.

Anybody that truly thinks ANY college team, from any point in history, could beat ANY pro team, from any point in history is a complete and utter moron!

Rob Dibble is an *****! He should get an award for stupidest sport broadcaster. He the one that was saying cycling is not a sport because the bike does all the work and Lance Armstrong can coast and sit on it. :brickwall

Texans - 45
Trojans - 17

Wait, it might not be that close.

Airheads are always crowing about the current great college team vs the worst NFL team (perceived). A few years ago, it was the '01 Hurricanes vs Arizona. Same result would've happened back then.

It's all water cooler talk and they know it. In reality, any NFL team is going to dookie stomp any college team 100 times out of 100 times.

Who did USC play on 9/17/05 ahhh.....the University of Arkansas.
On 9/18/05 who did the Texans play........the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Oh that's right.

Interesting fact....
Week 5 of the NFL season will be the Texans first game against a team that is was not UNDEFEATED(yes I am counting the Bills:)). It isn't like we have exactly had an easy road so far.

Thank you, my thoughts exactly. :thumbup

Freakin' whackos and their flying pigs! :pigfly:

Anyway, Hulk75, please don't paint the majority of fans with the brush of a few loudmouths. I still see a vast number of Carr jerseys throughout the stadium, and I will proudly wear mine on Battle Red Day (my regular jersey is custom). These forums only reflect a very small portion of fans in general

Unfortunately............I'd take the USC starting eleven in a straight up trade for the Texans 11. They have a lot more "potential" then this Casserly bunch which is playing like a first year expansion team again.

I would dispute that jaayteetx. From 1934 to 1976 the NFL champions played a game yearly against a college all-star team and surprising as it may seem the college all-stars pulled some wins out in that series.

If you stop to think about the kind of game we're talking about then it's even more significant. On the one side you have an NFL championship team. This is a team with players who have been together for some time and who have won a title together. On the college side you have talented players who are thrown together for a very short time. In some cases you had an edge in talent on the all college side but a more cohesive "team" on the pro side.

I'd put some of Bear Bryants teams against the pro teams of their era in a heartbeat. Alabama was a recruiting monster back then and their backups were often better than the starters of their opposition.

I'm not going to call you a moron but I am going to say that your statement is indicative of a general ignorance of football history.

The fact that we are even discussing this shows just how bad the Texans are.

Now the Longhorns could possibly beat them. :homer:

I was going to try to search around about this because I remember a pro v. college game. The way I remembered it (which easily could be wrong) was the superbowl loser against the college champion or something like that. Have to look around for something about it. As I recall it was played under college rules and that alone freaked out the WR's and CB's but I still don't remember the college team ever winning.

It was the NFL champions versus a team of college all-stars. The last time the college players won the game was I think 1963 when they beat Vince Lombardis Packers who had finished the NFL season with an 11-2-1 record.

And you know what else? Hookem isn't far off the mark. Just like Bryant's Alabama teams Darrell Royal had at times some teams that could have pulled it off. People today tend to forget just how strong some of the monster college teams were back in the days before anyone gave a damn about rules or being on probation. The greatest teams stockpiled talent so deep it was ridiculous and they weren't very far at all behind the NFL in coaching either.

That's cool and all, Hervoyel, and I greatly respect your football knowledge...but we're talking about today's NFL players. I think the dichotomy between college and pro players is much, much greater today than 50 years ago (or even 25 years ago).

I'm assuming this fantasy game would be by NFL rules (ie. two feet in bounds, much tougher coverage rules, etc)? Even so, give the NFL players the college rules, whatever.

I dig football history, and understand the past. But I have a really hard time believing that a college team (made up of 85% players that couldn't make an NFL practice squad, much less team), could beat a full blown NFL team (even a bad one).

But I'm just a fan, no expert, and it's all opinions right now. :)

Indeed today it's a much different story. The old All-Stars vs NFL Champions game I referenced was ended in 1976 because of the differences between Pro and College players which were growing bigger every year. The college teams were getting "worse" for lack of a better term because they were starting to become accountable to the NCAA while the NFL players were earning more and more money every year. The college players didn't want to get hurt playing in the game (risk losing those pro $$$$) while the NFL players didn't want to participate either (again risk losing $$$$).

The All-Star game used college rules by the way and it was kind of a no-win scenario for the NFL. If they won big deal, they beat the College All-Stars. They were supposed to beat the College All-Stars. If they lost to the college players then they were laughed at for losing to a bunch of kids. It was kind of like the time Bud Adams (and indeed the entire NFL) refused to even dignify the USFL Gamblers challenge with a response. They had everything to lose and nothing to win.

For the record though I wasn't talking about todays NFL and college teams/players. I was talking about "ANY" NFL and college teams/players from "ANY" time and place in history because that's what the original poster I responded to said. He was emphatic about that. It could NEVER happen.

Oh yes it could and it did.

Also I'd like to add that even though I was talking about games played long ago I wouldn't complete rule out the possibility of ANY college team today being able to beat ANY NFL team. So much of football is about the chemistry of the team and everyone giving their full effort. It's an emotional game and every season you see some team that's just absolutely horrible beat someone they're greatly favored to lose to. They win for no apparent reason. The favored team mails it in or the lousy team just comes out and puts a dominating performance out that week. That's the difference in emotion coming into play. The highs and lows of the season. Sometimes a good team comes out too tight and they play bad enough to give a bad team hope and the rest of it just snowballs.

I say even today it's a remote possibility that the best college team you can find could beat a truly lousy NFL team. 90+% of the time I agree it wouldn't happen. It could happen though.

Yeah, you're right, though...anything is possible, you just have to weigh it with probability.

My initial agreement with jaayteetx's post was based upon reading through the thread topic regarding USC beating the Texans, but I see where you were differentiating. You read the literal translation, as it was written, and I was infusing my own bias about today's players and more specifically, our team.

Good thoughts, though, on the history of the sport we love. I always dig pulling out crazy things from the past, and an NFL Champion vs. college all-stars is indeed one of those weird little factoids.

There's no way that USC could beat the Texans. I remember when FSU went wire to wire (I live in Tally) and people were saying they could beat the Bengals. Now, FSU did have some good players, and NFL talent (Corey Simon, Peter Warrick, L. Coles, Chris Hope, Ron Dugans, Chris Weinke etc..) But look @ what half of the playmakers @ the college level did @ the pro level... The talent that you guys have supercedes the potential that some USC players have.

You gotta be kidding me if any of you actually think that any college team could beat any NFL team in the present time. USC might have some good players, but they are no match for a pro team. The difference of the size and speed of the players in college and in the pros is like night and day.

They are a good team man. A ton of their players perform at the pro level. And doing Well. Polomalu is one of the best safties.

So USC was to play the Texans,or any NFL they would lose by a big margin. Any one that thinks other wise needs to pass me some of what they are smoking. That is like Say that and expansion team with all Rookies on there roster could beat and NFL team.

I agree, but it's hard to when they are maybe the best college team ever. 3 in a row possibility! Az St and Texas are good too. Hope they end up playing both of them.

My thoughts exactly! I am so sick of all this USC BS. I can't wait for them to slip. Their Defense hasn't been tested and it is vulnerable.

I will take Az St. + 17.5 all day long Saturday.

As far as them beatings the Texans, get some football knowledge and come back and answer that question. There is no way they beat us. How many players will even suit up in the NFL off that team? They will get their share due to the great play, however the vast majority will go back to Compton...errr Cali or off to the real world.

There offense is unstoppaable so there defense doesn't have to do much for them to WIN.

USC likely has 8 offensive 1st round draft picks. USC by a touchdown.

8 first round picks, huh? Has that ever been done by any College team? I would like to see that. I surely can't think of a team off the top of my head. I think I would bet and you and give you good odds they don't have 8 first rounders. Where do you get your info?

It has never been done. The Hurricanes hold the record with 6 first round picks set in 2004.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4824740/

But the Miami were both O and D. 8 1st rounders on one side of the ball is redicules. I personally think they are products of a system and poor opponents, but thats just me...

Thanks for the feedback. I checked on it too and that is what I found. So, with that said, does Mr. USC Lover wanna put his money where his mouth is on that statement. I will give 4 to 1 odds on whatever amount you are willing to lose. I might would even say both sides of the ball for even money, not that it will matter.

USC is a powerhouse right now. They have future superstars in the NFL. They could beat the texans right now.

Hogwash. This argument is done every year. Every Year. It's just silly to think that a professional organization, no matter how bad they are struggling, would lose to a collegiate program, no matter how impressive they might be.

I almost wish they'd line the 2 up against each other just to shut everyone up. Texans would win by 50 points.

Apparently people have pretty short memories (or just don't know at all) as to how much rookies have to adjust when coming into the league.

So imagine a team full of "rookies" going against the worst team in the NFL. Now consider that more than half of those "rookies" won't ever be good enough to see an NFL field.

Yeah, I'm sure Leinart would light up the Texans' secondary just as he did Arkansas. Very similar talent comparison.

Remember how Andre Johnson dominated CBs when he was in college? Do you think he's regressed since then?

well the good news is Jim Rome on "Jim Rome is burning" said that usc couldnt beat the texans or cardinals not even the best players all combined from across the nation. even though he did say "couldnt beat 2 of the nfls worst team" :embarrass

Just in the QB matchup the texans would be outmatched we honestly wouldnt have a chance againts a well coached USC team led By MattLionheart.

Wow, now Cold Pizza's First and Ten said not only USC could beat the Texans, but the Texas Longhorns and Notre Dame could beat us as well.

:embarrass

This is the kind of talk and media attention we get when we are the worst team in football. This is the first time for us to really be considered the worst team in football since we won our first game ever....then it was the Cowboys...because they lost to an expansion team.
