USA Today ranks the rookie class

All Pro
USA Today ranked the rookie class from this last draft.

we didnt do too bad.. but looking at who has played well makes me think about who we could have had. I made several posts saying we need to get Rob Pettiti...turns out I was right.

TEXANS Grade: B

First-round DT Travis Johnson continues to earn more playing time while fourth-round WR Jerome Mathis could prove to be a steal as he flashes big-play potential. S C.C. Brown is going through rookie growing pains, but he has more than held his own for a sixth-rounder.

WORSTS AMONG NO. 1 PICKS

1. Travis Johnson, DT, Texans: For a team with so many other problems, a defensive lineman who has trouble staying on the field has turned out to be a remarkable waste.

Just because TJ hasn't played every snap this season hardly makes him a waste of a pick IMO, it's not like if we had taken someone else we would be 12-1 right now instead of 1-12...

Yeah, the 7th overall pick (Williamson) barely makes the field at all and TJ is the worst pick in the draft. Turns out being 1-12 gets you little respect, go figure...

Exactly. It really is too convenient when you have a 1-12 team available to
hang the worst pick label on. Texas RB Benson was a top 5 pick for the Bears,
and unlike Johnson has maybe zippo production this year.

Anybody else notice this...

Well, which is it? Is he having trouble staying on the field or is he continuing to earn more playing time?

benson was doing a very solid job until he got hurt. you cant base his performance on when he didnt play.

I agree. I think TJ will be a fine player, but I still do not feel he was worth our first round pick. I know our Dline is aging, but after ridding ourselves of our LB's, we would have been wiser to take a lb, and not necicarilly DJ.

I feel this will go down as one of our worst first rounds this decade. He wasn't the top DT, he wasnt our top need, he hasnt shown enough flashes to warent his pick.

I again want to say, I like him and think he will be a good enough player, who is currently in the wrong system.

TJ won't achieve his true potential, which is very high imo, until he lines up as a 4-3 DT in a system other than Fangio's.

He had three consecutive games of less than 7 yards rushing and he had ZERO TDs for the season. His last two games where he actually had decent yardage were games againts New Orleans (30 rushing defense) and San Francisco (24 rushing defense). He had so few carries (58), that I would NOT say he was doing a solid job. How can you classify that as solid?

They had two people working the story and the obviously did NOT compare notes! :brickwall

Actually TJ was a pretty big waste.

Not starting. A 2-12 team has enough holes that their 1st rounder should be on the field.

Wrong system. He's a 4-3 guy! Wasn't even on my Texans draft board, though my last mock had him going #24 to the Packers with a note "deserves to go higher, but won't since no one from 10-23 will take him".

Opportunity Cost. Derrick Johnson (minus future 3rd round pick). Jamaal Brown. Marcus Spears.

One season a player does not make. Once we get a coordinatior who accutually knowns what he is doing he will be fine. Walker and Payne are both within 2 years of reteriment, he will come through for us

5. Matt Jones, WR, Jaguars: He has not had a huge immediate impact but shows the potential to be a defensive headache with his ability to play several positions.

That's what I like to see! :yahoo:
