Vonta left the Texans because Ozzie offered him more money than Rick. He was already established as one of the premiere FB's in the league when he was with the Texans. Jabroni Jones lasted three seasons in Baltimore and now plays for the Chargers. He is a return specialist and horrible receiver who is most famous in Houston for fumbling a punt. What exactly did Pollard do with the Ravens? Stats please. Made hay. Whatever.

CJII is an extremely likeable UDFA who didn't make the Texans roster and went to the Ravens PS. Not their starting lineup. Not their final 53 roster. Their Practice Squad. OMG FIRE RICK SMITH!!!1!!!11!!!

Charles James chose the team with less quality depth at his primary position. It was a good decision for him to make. Being critical of the Texans' GM because they have incredible depth at an important position like CB seems a little silly. Also, I seriously doubt Rick Smith was the one insisting James should be cut. It is safe to assume that decisions regarding the back end of the roster (particularly when there aren't salary cap consequences) come down to the judgements of the position coaches and the final decision of the head coach.

James isn't on the roster because of the following Rick Smith acquisitions:

2010 1st round pick: Kareem Jackson
2011 Free agent: Jonathan Joseph
2013 UDFA: AJ Buoye
2014 FA: J.Rolle
2014 FA (Packers practice squad): Darryl Morris
2015 1st round pick: Kevin Johnson

** All of those moves look pretty darn good... Not to mention the drafting of Andre Hal in 2014, who has shifted to FS. Even if Charles James succeeds elsewhere, I don't see his release as a mistake. It was a tough call, and I am disappointed that he's not on the team.

The problem is that he did everything he could (On top of the receivers) and the receivers still caught the ball. They might not have gotten YAC, but they caught the ball. The ST wasn't enough to overcome that.

NONE!! dalemurphy, you are the biggest apologist and sunshine pumper on this board when it comes to the Texans. You were still defending Kubiak till the end of his regime. When will you realize that the Texans are one of the worst run teams in the NFL with a joke of a GM and a fool as the owner.

Why the hell are you bringing JJ Watt into this discussion? The moronic duo of Rick Smith and Bob McNair are wasting the career of the best player in the league. The issue at hand is bottom of the roster positions. Bouye got his ass beat and got burned for TDs this preseason. Jumal Rolle did jack squat. We inexplicably kept those 2 and not CJIII who made plays IN ALL 3 PHASES of the games, showed leadership and has the heart of a winner. dalemurphy will buy anything the Texans are selling. Life must be a lot simpler and less stressful for you because you are blind to the truth. Do you realize how gullible you are?

Buoye and Rolle both were part of a very good Texan defense in 2014. Both are young, ascending players. Cutting Buoye based on one bad play in the preseason is a ridiculous notion.

I'm not sure why you in particular decided to take this personally, perhaps my fault for not directly quoting the post immediately in front of mine that was just a tirade of how stupid everyone in the Texans front office is with absolutely no discussion or anything insightful. So by all means post and discuss your opinions as that is what a message board is for. If however you just want to scream and yell and denounce every move anyone associated with the front office or coaching staff makes, well I guess you can do that to, more power to you. I have no idea why anyone would want to be a fan of a team they can't stand. There seems to be a growing base of posters who "cheer" for the team to fail, so they can come back and announce how smart they are and give us the old "I told you so!".

Do the Texans leadership make stupid moves that keep them from winning the Super Bowl, yeah I guess they do. So do 30 other teams every year. What keeps us coming back (or at least me) is the one season where the stars align and yours is the team that wins it all. And if you get really lucky maybe you end up with that mythical dynasty but that is even rarer than winning one Super Bowl.

My comment was not directed at you, as I typically enjoy your post and what opinions you do share. If you want to jump in with the everybody is a moron crowd by all means go ahead. I would have expected more from you. And since you took a shot and me and I'm a mindless cheerleader looking to make the squad..

I'm a guy, old, and fat... but I have as good a chance to make the cheer squad as you do to ever make a decision that matters regarding Texans football.

There's a difference between disagreeing with how the team is being run and thinking they're all morons. I actually think the Texans FO is quite bright. It's just winning isn't their #1 priority.

Really there's not - ascribing some unproven demeaning reason (lack of intelligence, lack of motivation, lack of urgency/desire) for unsatisfactory results is all the same.

Talking about the unsatisfactory results without the character assassination, now that's different.

Exactly - You can discuss football, results, expectations, without the constant "they are so stupid, a blind donkey could draft better" etc. etc. To me that eventually begins to sound like a broken record and I just skip over the posts.

Your comment "Uhh... Go Texans?!?... or is rooting for the team to do well not allowed here?" appeared to me to be silly as you did not address DXTX comments by offering rebuttal. You are correct about the doomsayers but most here state the reasons they are negative about players, management decisions and owner comments/decisions. You have minimal posts for me to have an idea of who you are; leading me to identify you by what you wrote and that led me to believe you are in the cheer leading section of this forum. Some of those that "liked" your post above are just that. They are the "oh please let me adopt a player and take him home for a good dinner" crowd and do not want any critique of Texans. Those are just as much to one extreme as are the doomsayers. I did not take your post personally as I am not in either of the extremes. I expect more from you and all posters. State what you agree or disagree on and then bring some input to the thread.

Fair enough, and no lingering issues with you and like I said point taken. I was being flippant without making clear who it was directed at. Apologies.

I consider myself directly in the middle, I don't agree with every decision the organization makes but I do watch the game each week and root for the team to win (even when seemingly impossible at times). I don't agree with every draft choice but once they are a Texan I hope I'm wrong about them. I don't like Hoyer as the QB but I hope he is all pro this year. I personally show up each week and watch the game and want a win even when I know there isn't much of a chance they will win. But I'll "cheer" for my team anyway.

A little back on topic, what frustrated me was the out pouring of ohh great there goes this season when the last 20 or so cuts were made and especially the last couple. If our sixth or seventh string WR and CB is the difference maker on the team doing well or is the deciding factor on management not doing everything it takes to win then we are in dire straights.

Every year teams have to go from 90 to 53 players, a full ~41% of their roster, obviously not everyone will agree with the cuts and some fan favorite "he has a lot of heart" players will get cut. It is the nature of the business, not the end of the world. Good luck to all the former Texans may they light the world on fire excluding when they play the Texans.

Tell me what have I said about McNair's character? I said he's ore concerned with $$$$ than winning. (Not a character assassination. McNair is quite the philanthropist.

Rick Smith- All I've said about him is he's not very good at his job and stabbed Kubiak in the back in order to keep his job. (Told to me by an insider we both know.) How's this a character assisination.

Kubiak- I thought Kubiak was an avg HC and a great person, which I've stated many times. I actually thought he did a great job of coaching in 2011-2012 Yates as QB and 2012 with a hurt Schaub that he nursed along. How is this a character assassination.

Just because you disagree with my opinions doesn't mean I try to demean others character. I would hope that you would know that you've mischaracterized me posts if you truly believe this, speaking of Mischacterizations/character assassinations.

Don't ever try to impune my character.

He may be listed as such on the depth chart, but I don't see him truly being a starter until we get deeper into the season. Will probably be on a snap count and we will run with a 3-man rotation at OLB. When Clowney is in he is at Jack with Mercilus at Sam. When Clowney comes off then Mercilus slides over to Jack and Simon comes in at Sam.

But what's his pitch count? Will his minutes be limited more if he's working the low block in the paint?
