Training with the opposition?

Hi all,

I have been watching the pre-season unfold and have been bewildered at why the Texans seem to be training with the opposition the week before a game. I have noticed on the news section that the Raiders are training with the Texans........This just doesn't seem right, I have only been following the NFL since the last few games last season so I am not up there with all that goes on.

The games don't matter at this point and it's nice to work against someone other than your own teammates during preseason. That's why we're working with the teams coming to town to play us right now. It will all stop once the regular season begins.

Yeah I think that playing against other teams during training camp/preseason can only have a positive effect on the Texans, hell, i think they are starting a trend :texflag:

Yeah, it's a nice way to try different plays and strategies against another team without worrying about the penalty of a loss.

It also helps the players to compete against other players not on our team, too.

I think that we really lucked out that we have been ale to put our secondary up against such strong opposition so far this offseason.

This not something that is truly novel or new. Some teams have practiced with their pre-season opponents for at least a decade or more.

The Cowboys had an annual pre-season game with the Raiders where the two teams would go head to head in practices for the week prior.

I know of several other teams where that also was the case. It just depends on the coaches and how cooperative their relationship is.

You won't see divisional rivals doing this. You also won't see folks who have this team on their regular season doing this. It is usually two teams from different conferences as well, so that there is no chance of meeting up in the playoffs prior to the Super Bowl.

Anyone who has played football knows that after a few weeks of hitting your own guys, everyone gets antsy to match-up against someone new and relishes the opportunity to lay the wood to some different folks.

Go Texans
