Trading out of 1st and into 2nd round???

What do you all think of trading out of the 1st round and into the 2nd?

What would make that an acceptable thing to do?

Would you be disappointed?

What is the likelihood of that happening?

If a team gave us their 1st next year and a high second this year, then I would think it could be a good deal to consider, but it is hard to comment when we don't have an exact scenario. trading our 1st round pick for a second isn't going to happen. I could see them trading down to the 20-25 pick and getting a second round pick from that.

Okay, well say we got multiple picks in the second round. Would it still be a wise choice.

I am only asking this because I am also gearing for us to do something totally unexpected like this.

It isn't too far fetched. I know we want to stay out of cap hell. DD is due a contract next year as well as some other key people on our team.

If we did trade out and got multiple 2nds, I would like for us to go after Matt Jones and Eric Shelton.

I would do it for a teams second this year, and their first next year, especially if said team is someone like the Raiders, Redskins, or 49ers. Next years group should be much better. That would give us 2 #1 picks next year. That's about the only scenerio that would make me bite on that proposal.

philly has no real needs and 13 draft picks, they could be moving up, they have the 31 and 35 picks which equal the 13 pick in the draft value chart. I'd be one to make this trade. we could get a David Baas who is probably the highest rated offensive lineman, and who knows what else.

there is no way philly is gonna have 13 rookies make that team, they will need to make moves.

Depending on who's left, I'd trade out of the first for a second this year and a first next year...I would only make that trade if the big 3 WRs, the big 3 RBs, Ware, Merriman, DJ, and Spears are gone, though...

We have done so much better drafting in the 1st than in the 2nd. I hope we don't trade entirely out of the round. I wouldn't be opposed to us moving down in the first and grabbing more picks though.

I think it matters on a draft value board. For example, if the Texans feel that selecting some one like Ronnie Brown at 13 has more value than the combination of David Baas and Eric Shelton, than I say no, but if it is wiser to select the combination........trade away!

But what I can see and I think this would be Casserly's dream draft, would be to trade his way out of the 1st with multiple deals. For instance, trading down from #13 to say, the 18th spot, and pickup a draft pick. Then trade down from the 18th to say, the 24th spot, and pick up another pick or picks. Then, trade down from #24 out of the first for more picks. You could pick up a slew of picks with multiple trade-downs.

How realistic of a scenario that would be, would depend how Charley see's the board when it's his turn to pick. But I gather he doesn't think much of any of the players in this draft's first round.

I can see this happening. I have done several trade scenarios I think there are several teams that will trade up bc of fear the player they want will be taken 1-2 picks before them. Casserly is known for his trades

The problem with these kind of let's get every pick in the draft scenarios is there are only 53 roster spots on the team. What good is getting 13 (lower) players when only 5-6 may make the team. Why not get 6-8 players (higher) with a better chance of sticking with the team and contributing. Every year this happens, people want more than 7 picks. Most of those picks, if they stick at all, will be developmental--i.e. take 1-4 years to become starters. Keep moving down for 10+ picks and you are either cutting the rookies before the season or cutting prior developmental picks prior to seeing how they develop. 10 darts are not necessarily better than 7 unless you are a team like the Titans with $28 mil in deadspace and lots of holes.

I think the Titans will do something like this. I think New Oreleans will trade up for DJ then the titans will trade down again from 16 and add more picks just MO.

The 2005 NFL Draft is what TFG believes is a “trade down” Draft. Those of you who have seen the TFG Value Board (TVB) know that TFG’s Recs are “rec-ed” (i.e. recommended) higher than they are ranked by the guru consensus. Players like Eric Coleman, Jerome Carter and James Kinney could go much lower in the Draft than where TFG has them ranked on the TVB. TFG is not attempting to predict where such players will get Drafted. Rather, TFG simply ranks players where TFG believes they DESERVE to go. Last year, for example, TFG Fourth Round Rec Ryan Lilja went undrafted. Lilja played well in several starts for the Colts, and is now penciled in as the starting OLG, as the Colts made no attempt to sign former starting OLG Rick DeMulling. While TFG really likes a few players expected to go in Round 1, TFG generally recommends your favorite NFL team trade down, perhaps several times and completely out of the First Round depending on the situation (i.e. where Pollack goes etc.). TFG believes this Draft is full of values after the First Round, possibly most of which will last until the Third Round or later. In 1986, the 49ers traded out of the First Round and landed a boatload of underrated talent that led to Super Bowls (Charles Haley, Tom Rathman, John Taylor, Tim McKyer). This 2005 NFL Draft could have such potential.

Rumor is that the Saints aren't high on DJ and would rather have Thomas Davis as a Will LB since DJ hasn't displayed the ability to take on blocks...It may be a smokescreen, but I think they're likely to stay at 16 unless they feel someone is about to take Thomas Davis...

this is funny because KC picks 1 pick infront of them... and word is they since the Surtain deal they might want to take Davis to sure up their S position. Which would then cause the Saints to move up. We really dont know they dont want him where did u hear this from? J/W...

Most likely, but the Saints have made some bad moves over the years, and if they feel pressured enough, I wouldn't rule out them giving up the 40th overall pick...That would be a dream scenario, though...
