Depending on who Kubiak is targeting. I would think he would be targeting Reggie Bush or D'Brickashaw Ferguson. If he wants Bush, fine, we snag him with the first pick. If he wants D'Brick, we may not have the option to trade down and draft him anymore. I have heard several scouts say that in their opinion that D'Brick's stock has risen since the Senior Bowl practices and that he is a sure top five pick. I have read several articles about how much the Jets really like Ferguson and how they are taking a hard look at snagging him with the #4 pick. Now it COULD all be smokescreens and mirrors, but it is really looking like this could be a very interesting draft. My thoughts are, what do we do now? If Kubiak is 110% sure D'Brick is the man for us, do we draft him #1 overall? We may not have a choice if the Jets really want him that bad.

Offensive left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson is gaining a significant amount of attention this week at the Senior Bowl. Ferguson is considered the top tackle prospect headed into the draft, with the New York Jets having a serious interest in this potential star lineman.
 
Even if we did trade down we could still pick up Dbrick because know itellegent franchise could pass up taking Bush unless it's our dumb ---! There's enough LT in this years draft to pick one up by the 2nd round. None might be a D'Brick but there not far behind. That guy Colledge has shown just as good technique and footwork in pass protection during practice but the media is giving all the praise to D'Brick. Wait until the senior bowl to sum up the play of each player in the draft. Then, at least we will be able to determine if D'brick is the only LT in the whole draft but i'm guessing he's not the only quality LT out of the whole bunch. from all reports that guy Colledge has had just as good as a practice as D'Brick has.
 
Does anyone think that if R. Bush were playing in the Senior Bowl we would be hearing about the likes of DeAngelo Williams or any other RB at the Senior bowl? I think not. And that's not to say that they aren't any good or won't have a great career in the NFL.
 
Ferguson has always been a top 5 pick. Thats never been questioned, but the NY Jets have a need at RB with Curtis Martin getting old ande Lamont Jordan is gone so they would love to have Bush and replace one of the top RBs in NFL history with anothr special RB. I think they seriously consider trading up.
 
The Jets had some success with Cedric Houston after Martin's injury. He was a 6th round pick. Why move up 3 spots to take Bush when you can stay put (or drop down) and still pick up a really good RB?
 
My understanding of D'Brick (and I say that because I haven't watched enough tape to say it for myself) is that he is a great OT, great footwork, bright and hard worker, but that he is light for a tackle (280s, last I heard).

I doubt if I could take him with the #1 overall. Guys like Pace and Ogden that have gone very high were true "monster" tackles, whereas D'Brick's weight is sure to be a question mark. I personally do not know enough about the O-line positions to comment on whether or not he will be able to make the translation in the NFL, as far as his value to us going #1 overall.

"Draft stock" aside, does anyone have any insight into this?
 
With Lepsis being at 6'4'' 290 D'brick fits the mold from a size standpoint. It boils down to whether or not he can learn the scheme. Having payed under Groh and being a UVA grad would lead to believe that the kid has it upstairs.
 
Tennessee is really the wild card in the draft. They may decide to take Ferguson (since Hopkins is on his last legs) and go with Volek as their answer at QB. They could take Young, Cutler, or Lineart (if somehow he made it past N.O.). If we trade with the Jets, there is absolutely no guarantee Ferguson is still there for us. Also, with Cutler's stock rising, that hurts our trade down changes unless someone REALLY wants Bush.

Well look at their O-line. They have one guy, their LT, who was taken with the 20th pick in the 1st round. Lepsis, the other tackle is a undrafted Free agent ROOKIE. Nalen was the 7th round from 1994. Cooper Carlisle is the 4th round in 2000. Ben Hamilton is the 4th round 2001. So the 20th pick is the highest they had on one of the best lines in football and people want to take a guy with a Top 5 pick? If we trade down I'd much rather take a Defensive playmaker after seeing the Steelers.

Agreed, Colledge should be Houston's second tackle of choice after Ferguson. He is an incredible athlete, just like D'brick, and it has been said that he can even punt pretty well. He grew up in North Pole, AK (I actually visited there this past June) which is not for the faint of heart. He sounds like a perfect pick all 'round.
 
The only way I would take D'Brick number 1 is if he owns everyone in the actual game this weekend and has an excelent combine preformance. By the way he has looked in practice this week he could do both. But if he doesn't, I would trade down in the first and take Colledge in the second.
 
Just because he had a great workout against Kiwi doesn't mean we have to automatically trade down and get him. Yeah, it helped Ferguson's cause and improved his stock but there is still a lot of time left and I still think Reggie Bush is the right pick for us.
 
I just got through reading the practice report on D'brick for yesterday and it said while D'brick was awsome in pass protection he wasn't very good in run blocking and didn't show the aggression one needs to be a great run blocker in the NFL. However, they did say that Coledge showed very good blocking skills. If any of you want to confirm this just go to the link on page 2 that is entitled Senior Bowl.

That is what I thought in the two games I saw him play this year. However, the run block scheme coming in may be tailored made for D'Brick.

His run blocking skills will get better as he continues to add weight. His pass blocking skills are way better than colledge IMO. The DE's at the senior bowl are weak. I really want to see D'Brick vs. Mario williams at the combine:drool: . Will they get to face each other at the combine???

I dont think that they do one on one match ups at the combine but I agree, it would be awesome. Ferguson is 6'5'' adn 297 pounds at 22 years old. He has never been on an NFL weight training program and if they want him to gain weight, believe me, they are the best at knowing how to get him to put it on. Most people dont realize that having a LT that size is actually a good thing for 2 reasons. One because they fit the zone scheme better. Two, because a lot of offensive lineman have trouble keeping their weight low enough to stay effective. That is one thing you will never have to worry about, because Ferguson is a naturally big but lean person. he will always be about 300-315, and he wont loose his quickenss as fast as other o-line prospets.
 
No it won't but it could be the key to unlocking success in a struggling O-line unit. But I still say we try to pick up one out of FA though if he's worth it.
 
I have to keep reminding myself its January. We really can't take anything anybody says seriously about any one player as there are motives coming from every direction...mind games and stock fluctuations for the next 3 months.
 
:stirpot: Why would Tennessee not consider trading down and getting local guy Jay Cutler ? Vanderbilts in Nashville and using the same logic of Vince to the Texans this might be their guy .

If I am reading the intent of the post correctly, and I freely admit I might not be. It indicates that that there is no sense drafting an LT as it won't matter, so lets do something else. If so, when would you propose we address it? The delay of fixing the issues with the O-line have been going on for 4 years and we have seen the results.
 
I think D'Brick is the best choice for us in the draft, if we are able to get him with the 4th pick and get a few more draft picks would rock but its hard to say with the Jets, although it is known they need a QB and a RB. but if they wont trade then I say take D'Brick with the #1 pick, we dont need a RB and I think that under Kubiak Carr will do good, so I don't think a QB is our answer either
 
As much as I love the prospect of being able to draft D'Brick, if we can get a multitude of picks for this year's #1 pick, I'd STILL say to do it. Has everyone forgotten about AJ Hawk? We could hit him up with the Jets' pick if they trade with us and STILL have a bonafide playmaker. Or we could even trade down again (hopefully, picking up even more picks in the process), and take another lineman in the latter part of the first round.
