Trade????

Do any of you think that we could trade our number 8 for new englands number 24 and 28??????If so, who would we take?

I don't think NE would make that trade. I can't really see what they'd gain out of it.

we'll have to wait till draft day & see who is available @ #8 :bubble:

if for instance elite WR Calvin Johnson would slip then NE might just be interested :phone:

then I would look to grab the best corner available (Chris Houston) #24 or FS (Brandon Meriweather) then Ryan Kalil (#28) the fine looking center from USC.

NE has players getting old is several spots, plus they have lost a few players that left for more money. With that in mind, I don't think they will give away 2 first rounders for one higher priced first rounder. Plus they are good at finding real strong players at the end of the first.

Just playing off this a tad...Dom Capers is moving his team from a 4-3 to a three four...I'm thinking...Babs and Peek, we give them our three for their two ? As an Orange blood take the texas DE or the Center.. What y'all think ?

I don't know that the Patriots have much of a need to move up that much, and I don't particularly want to move down that far in the draft, we do pick up a late 1st round pick but I think there are only maybe 4-5 players in this draft that I would call elite and at #8 we have a good chance to get one of them, moving back that far we lose out on that chance. I don't really see the team accepting that if it was offered and I personally wouldn't do it (I would start to consider it if they threw in a 2nd rounder this year or next year, but that definitely wouldn't happen), and I don't see the Patriots making that offer anyways.

I would like to make that deal if we can, the only problems I would have with that is Peek's contract has expired so we'd have to sign him to some sort of a deal and trade him which would likely add some kind of cap hit for us, and trading Babin slaps us with a $2 million cap hit whereas keeping him only costs us $1.4 million against the cap, so moving him would cost us an additional $600k in cap space. While moving up from the 3rd round to the 2nd would be a great option and absent of cap considerations I'd be willing to move Babin and Peek to do so, it makes things a little more difficult when you add in that cap situation. Also, between Jason Taylor, Donnie Spragan, and Channing Crowder I think they are ok at OLB for now, and while Capers does have experience with Babin and Peek and obviously likes them I don't know that he could convince Cam Cameron to make that trade. It would be nice if we could get that to work out though.

Need info!!!!!!

The falcons have a new head coach which is more than likely going to change there o-line blocking from the ZBS to a more physical style sys. Are there any player from the falcons worth looking at, hav'ent heard of any of them being FA but is there a chance some of them get cut before March 1 in order to save the Falcons some money for the Draft/FA.

NE's (2) picks will cost less than the #8 so I doubt they will be interested in trading. Besides the menu doesn't necessarily look all that appetizing for them to move up.

I have know idea but it doesn't sound too smart on the falcons part to me. I must admit i have a limited knowledge of the x's and o's of football. They are keeping Vick. period. I can't see them getting rid of him or trading him. the whole oakland rumor isn't a good idea for either team imo.

Therefore are they going to keep Vick in the pocket? That's where he sucks. he's an incredible athlete, runner, and passer. there is no denying it. I say passer cuz he has an incredible arm is accurate enough and moreso than most qb's ON THE RUN. he has a hard time throwing over his lineman and i don't know how easy it is to find his receivers to throw through the lane. If they switch blocking styles and all...i expect to see him run a lot of bootlegs and rollouts...is my thinking off>?

Just wondering, what is the value of our #8 this year? Could we trade down to 14-18 and get a #2 this year and next year? What about a #3 this year and a #1 next year?

Well, going off the trade value chart our #8 is worth 1400 pts. The #16 pick is worth 1000 and their 2nd round pick is worth 420, so by the chart trading down to the #16 spot should only yield us their 2nd round pick as well. However, with a relative lack of top-end talent this year, depending on who's available we may be able to get a trade offer that is above the trade value on the chart.

edit: posted after MorKnolle
this chart (from 2006, couldnt find a 2007 chart) says we could get comparable value for our #8 pick by doing following type deals:
(number pick in first round-pick value)

our 1st round (1400) for:
San Francisco: 1st round (11-1250) + 3rd round (245) = 1465
Buffalo: 1st round (12-1200) + 3rd round (210) = 1410
Carolina: 1st round (14-1100) + 3rd round (200) + 4th round (74) = 1374

Teams (say the Texans) that are trading down are probably going to want more points in return than they give up, so something like the San Francisco or Buffalo could be more realistic. But it gives you an idea. San Francisco has a bevy of picks this year (9-10 i believe) so they might be an ideal partner to talk to.

I'd love to trade down with San Fran. We might have to give them say our 5th worth 38pts . I don't know who they would want to move up for that's the thing, they'd have to be worried they would miss out on 'their' guy. I know nolan is very high on Patrick Willis but even at 11 it may be too high for him so trading up doesn't make since. Is he real high on Okoye too? not sure if that's another coach...no never mind that was gruden.

Well who would San Fran desperately want to move up...that's the question that needs to be asked. If so I'd do it and take Landry at 11.

here's a pick value chart if yall want to play around with it.

if levi brown keeps ascending with his pre-draft workouts, he would be a guy i wouldnt be disppointed with at that stage. i still dont know if i am good with getting safety there. i'd consider a guy who might be able to lock it down on the left side for 10 years a bit more important. grab a safety, just not there.

Perhaps the 49ers could move up for Alan Branch if they really like him. It sounds like they really like Patrick Willis but they shouldn't need to trade up to get him, and Landry/Nelson would be available at #11 and would be an option for them too. I don't see them wanting to trade up, they are still building their roster too and I don't think anyone will be there at #8 that they will really want.

the bad thing about where we are in the draft order is this...there will not be a player available at the 8th spot that we will be willing to part with that another team will be willing to jump up for within a few picks (10,11,12)

as for the new england idea...i've pondered the same question and the best i can come up with is that we would be going after a linebacker and hoping one of the top three safties drops...ryan kalil is an option but honestly he isn't a 1st round talent...i know he is the best center in the draft but that doesn't mean you take him in the first round...he does fit the profile of a zone blocking o-lineman and he would fill a need...but why pick him up there at the 28th pick when we probably have a good shot at him with our second round pick?

the only teams that i can really see us trading down for is with green bay or carolina...one of those two teams will fall in love with a player...that player will be there at the 8th pick but not when they are drafting...since their needs right now are similiar to the needs of san fran, atl, and miami they would have to trade up...saying for instance a top reciever like jarrett or ginn jr...or a linebacker that they covet highly or the top safty

buffalo is an option to trade down with...but the guy they want will be levi brown...now if he's read my other threads you know this is the guy i feel we should target if adrian isn't there...will buffalo take him at the 8th pick if we were to trade with them i think so...the only way IMO that we can get atl, miami, or san fran to trade is if a play-maker like branch falls and one of those teams have him rated too high to pass on...but i just don't see that happening

If we could get a Safety in FA, say Hamlin for example, it might clear the draft picture a little. Then you could get Okoye or Brown in the 1st without having the need to reach for a Safety with #8 if you can't trade down. JMHO!

I really dont see us taking a saftey period. Either AP, Branch, Okoye, Adams or Andersson will be there at 8, and all are better prospects then any of the safties. You dont need a great FS for a great defense (sure it helps, but), having a dominating D-line and one really good DB (Drob) should get it done.

Edit: run-daid-run does not condone or recommend the usage of Glenn Earl, CC Brown or Jason Simmons as FS's, as possible (and in all likelihood probable) side-effects include blown coverage, missed tackles, and more blown coverages.

But getting a decent FS in FA or later picks shouldnt be that hard.

exactly what i was thinking. get lewis or hamlin and that clears a spot that you dont have to worry about, at least on day one.

Thanks for the info, especially the Draft Value Chart-very informative:thumbup. Sure would be great if we could find a way to get an extra pick in next year's draft (say round 2):whoohoo:
