This is my draft day proposal: We trade down to the number 7 spot with the Raiders, who take Leinart. For the number 1 pick, we get Oaklands 1st, second, third and next year's number one. This leaves us with the #1, #33, #40, and then 3 3rd's.
OK, here's how it goes:
1. Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland. Ran a 4.38 at the combine, easily the most athletic TE in recent memory, probably ever.
2. Davin Joseph, OG, Oklahoma. Second best guard in the draft, best for our system which needs smaller players. Also spent time at LT-he is versatille and talanted.
2. Ko Sampson, FS, South Carolina. Ball Hawking saftey, this secondary badly needs soomeone other then Dunta who can hit and cover.
3. Rocky MacIntosh, MLB, Miami. The next Vilma, slightly rawer, but also at a smaller price.
3. Wimberly/Ray Edwards, DE. Witchever one slips, both are good pass rushers and unless we get someone in FA, DE is just as big a need as Guard.
3. Jason Spitz/Nick Mangold/Mark Sensttrom (sp) OG/C. As bad as Wade and Riley looked on the outside, the inside of the line is still the weekest (I advocated D'Brick because that would solidify the LT spot and putt Pitts back at LG). All of these players fitt into the zone blocking system, even with Joseph, we still need help at guard, also depends on the development of Hodgson.
4. Derek Hagan, WR, Arizona. Stock fell with Senior Bowl and combine, steal if he falls this far.
5. Aaron Harris, MLB, Texas. Good defender, great tackler, very underrated.
This leaves us with at least three new starters (Davis, Joseph, Sampson), and three other potential ones in MacIntosh, Mangold/Sensttrom/Spitz and whoever we get at DE.
