Trade Down Campers

spastikmooss

Practice Squad
I'm happy to hear that some people want to trade the top pick. Reggie Bush will be wonderful, but he's not for the Texans. Trade down for Brickshaw or Hawk, or even Carpenter, get some defense in the trade, and go after hutchinson or bentley. Defense and O line...go texans.

Welcome fellow texan fan. Im interested to know, who do you think we should trade down for??

I am in the D'Brick or D'Fense club pending the outcome of free agency. Mario Williams or AJ Hawk would be nice.

If we traded down I think the best guys for us are Williams and Davis. In the later rds. I think the picks can also have a positive impact, but those are the guys I think we should shoot for in the 1st.

It was a really hot topic a few days ago, but now it has vanished. What's the deal?

I would love to see the Texans fill many empty spots, but would even more want Bush. I think in order to win championships, you need a gamebreaker, a big playmaker. The Texans have nothing of the sort.

I agree. Although this is a great draft year, and there are many players I would love to have on the Texans. I don't think there's one "right" choice and drafting at #1 gives you the pick of the litter.

Ferguson all the way, especially if we trade down and get Abraham. If we dont get Abraham I think it may be up in the air between Ferguson and Super Mario.

Give our talented guys some support, and the playmakers will rise.

If we get into the 4-7 range, we'll basically be guaranteed to get someone that will help our team. Potentially D'Brick, A.J. Hawk, Mario Williams, Vernon Davis, and Michael Huff will be there within those spots, and all of them suit our needs.

If I'm trading down I'm getting Mario Williams. the 2nd and 3rd round picks can cover the line just as well.

D'Brick if they're serious about building an o-line for the long haul. It's our most glaring weakness, and nothing will change for the better if our line is not addressed with urgency this off-season.

I'd love to have Williams or Hawk on our D, but it is my firm belief that our offensive line is the weakest and most inconsistent aspect of the Texans.

Agree'd .... I think we've said this for the past 4 seasons .

Remember the ESPN comercial in the first season with DC shown with no O-Line ..... Not much has changed from a performance standpoint since then.

Games are won and lost in the trenches ..... without good blocking the skill positions dont really have a chance to make plays ...

Oh my god.. another freak'n first time poster trade down thread...... It's getting soooo anoying. I can't wait till the draft, so this nonsense would stop.

Don't worry to much about it. The first time posters will start really strong around the first week in April.

what are you complaining about now? if you've been around this message board for anytime this offseason, most "new" posters do not advocate a trade down like you suggest. Most "new" posters advocate their particular man-crush, be it reggie bush or vince young. Also notice the sudden influx of "post-rose bolw, draft vince now" posters who have pretty much died off.

i agree..it was much better when every post was about vince's leadership and how he is from houston and how he will win every superbowl from next year until he retires while curing cancer, running for president, playing offensive and defensive line, rushing for 200 and passing for 300 yds per game...not to mention playing point guard for the rockets and winning an NBA title as well...can he play short stop?

I had ya, TK ;-) ... good stuff. Give the nubes some slack, or even the vets in YTF's case.

If we are trading down, I think my vote is Mario Williams. Everything I have seen and heard of the guy says he will be a Ju-Pep/Reggie White type beast. Mind you I am not reserving his HOF spot yet when I say that, only that he looks like a very exciting talent, and I don't feel we have a true 4-3 DE on this roster. I like Peek/Babin and think they will both be functional DEs, but I would like to see us bolster our D-line with a true PR threat that can also hold up against the run. Our pass rush has been very weak in years past (due much more to playcalling than lack of talent, IMO) but to acquire a guy like Mario would be making a big stride in addressing that.

That said, I surely would not mind trading for a D'Brick. Obviously our O-line has been a bad issue, and while I think Pitts makes a fine LT, we need another starting-caliber T. I also really like E. Winston from Miami, but as I and others project him at a mid to late first rounder, I'm not sure how we'd get him other than trading down twice, and I would like to see us get an immediate impact player: a guy that the opponents will have to gameplan for. And while we have a very talented first day class this year, I don't see an obvious, can't-miss "gameplanner" coming to us much below the 7 spot.

At the end of the day, though, I don't see us trading the pick. I think Kubes is sold on the "thunder and lightning" of Davis/Bush. Either way, until the dust settles from the FA/CBA thing and the draft draws near, we won't have any ideas on serious offers, etc. that are going to be made. So that is my :twocents: as it stands now.

Thoughts?

To win championships, you need a gamebreaker? Really??

Last five Super Bowl winners:
2006-Pittsburgh
2005-New England
2004-New England
2003-Tampa Bay
2002-New England

Any "gamebreakers" on any of these teams? No. What they all DO have in common is a good QB, good Oline, and great defense. That is the same route we need to go IMO.:twocents:

jj,

I tend to agree with you. While the thought of trading down and grabbing Ferguson/Williams and having another first rounder is very appealing, I just don't see why the Jets would make that move? If the Saints are dead set on Leinart, then I see them as a more likely trading partner. If not, I am not confident that we will get the necessary value to trade the pick. I guess the CBA negoations may also play a role in how teams draft, etc.

I'm beginning to fear that the only way we trade out of #1 is if we trade directly down to somewhere below 4. I figure the other teams in the top four will be content to stay where they are and take what falls to them. THey can't lose, really.

So I'm guessing all the trade down scenarios are unrealistic, since they have the Titans, or Saints, or most like, Jets, trading up.

So Oakland might want to belly up at 7, but who else? Anyone got any realistic ideas?

Pretty much how I see it also. I doubt we would trade past the 4th pick unless someone offers a Ricky WSilliams type deal. Might happen, but I doubt it. So, if we have no trading partners, what to do, what to do. My hope is that we would have the stones to go out and talk with DBrick's agent and get a better deal negotiated before hand and then pick him with the number one. I doubt that happens also. I suspect we will take Bush and while worthy of the number one, he isn't what we really need. Good player and will help, but he isn't addressing the critical need....O-line. We can certainly get a tackle at 33, but not near the quality that DBrick is.

The view is great. It's where I'ma sit and watch and observe what is going on, until I have the least reason to form a solid opinion. At this stage in the game, I don't. I have stated my views on this post and many others, but it's still pure speculation until the draft is right upon us, until we receive and hear out the serious trade offers and scenarios. Maybe one of our prospects will do something fantastic to change my mind, or do something fantastically *****ic. Maybe Vince Young will throw the ball 120 yards into a stiff wind at his pro day and make me think, damn, that is a talent I would like to have after all. Maybe Reggie Bush will fall down the stairs and take himself out of the equation (not that I wish that on Reggie, he is cool in my book.) You know what I mean? Maybe D'Brick will come in and solve a Rubik's cube while integrating multi-dimensional polynomials and discussing Kubes' new zone blocking scheme, and we will all know he is too good to pas up.

Too much time left.

If you think the Texans FO has decided at this point, you are sorely mistaken. They have a good idea - like I do - but we are still way too far away from the event to make the call. They are not going to marry themselves to any one prospect, and in my case - since this board is full of people who love to construe a "changing of my mind" in all kinds of negative ways - I will withhold my judgement until the right time :)

Simple enough for you?

No disrespect, but I think this is wrong. N.O. and tenn. want the same guy, Leinart.
If N.O. catches wind that we are going to trade with tenn. they will make an offer.
Jets want Bush, they won't say it now, but look for a last second offer from them on draft day. It might not be enough, but I think they will make some type of offer.

We are a failed expansion team with a new coach, an owner who wants to win now and a cooling fan base. We need to buy time. If we can pick up at least an extra 2nd this year and possibly a 1st next, everyone will look at this as a rebuilding year. We can get some young studs playing time at their pace, to help insure their success.
We should come away with Bush, Williams, or D'Brickshaw at#4, we should not consider and offer lower. If you don't come out of this draft with one of those guys or V. Davis their will be H**L to pay. All will be gone @ #7
No way should we drop lower than #4

Worst case: take Bush, best OL in 2nd, then see who drops to 3rd round

who is the steelers gamebreaker- no1 really- just good solid lines and few weaknesses. thats what you need to win championships imo

edit-ok austin made the exact same point already

We have the best QB situation of the rest of the teams. And Deuce is much better than DD.

If Bush gets to tenn. at #3 they take him or trade pick. VY will still be there at #5 and possibly #7. IMO no chance Bush drops past #3
If Jets trade up I think it is for Bush.

Now, that's just not the way to go about it at all. The guys in the F.O. need to just buckle down, and do the best with what they got. Use the First pick, if they can't get the Value for it, or we'll be on the wrong end of all the jokes again........ It's kinda hard to be taken seriously as a real team when we keep making mickey Mouse mistakes.

All will be gone @7?? geeze, there are so many OL, LBs, RBs, even QBs that will go deep into the second to be saying things like this. Let's not panic, remember we have free agency, and 7 rounds in the draft....... I think we'll be in pretty good shape regardless what we do.

I am all for Mario Williams at this point. Trade down or take him at #1. He makes us better immediately more so than any one else out there and his ceiling is as big as anyones from a potential standpoint.

The trade down scenario at the moment sounds like our best option to fill holes fast. The only problem is the time to adjust to pro opponents.Granted i doubt we are going to the playoffs this year,so it is a good option. However in reading what CC said about being ready to get into the FA market with "no salary-cap issues" I am interested in seeing who we go after. There are good OL and DE's in the FA market along with WR's and TE's.If we fill those gaps in Fa i think Bush will be a no brainer with 3 more picks in the top 66.But the "IF" factor looms large in my evaluation of the draft. As for now I think it's a wait and see till FA gets started.

Bush, Leinart, B'Brickshaw, Williams, Davis, (Young or Cuttler) will be top 6 picks.

If Texans don't get Bush, D'Brick, Williams, or Davis I will consider this a failed draft regardless of who they pick up in later rounds and FA

Well I wonder who the playmaker was for NE.... Ever heard of a guy named Tom Brady? Pittsburgh has great coaching, and TB had one of the best defenses ever!

As new Englander...I know that brady's pretty sweet. However, if we work on the oline...dave carr could at least approach the level of quaterback brady is. The steelers, patriots, and bucs all won with great defense and good players in the trenches(as has been said on this board already a few times). So I'm all for d'brick or mario williams and maybe getting a corner and/or backer from free agency.

We have a running back and a quaterback. Let's focus on areas of NEED.

Aaron Brooks wups Carr's ***** statwise, year after year.

Duece runs behind LeCharles Bently, a guy we would like to have, because we have no one comparable, and DD still wups his ***** stat wise for the first 3 years of each of their carreers....... Duece also missed 11 games last year, and has only played 16 games in one of his 5 seasons...
