Trade D. Davis for Abraham???

If abraham could stay healthy.. he would have much more of an impact on the defensive side of the ball than what DD has on our offensive side (or has) ...with Morency/Wells (basically have been getting same kind of production minus the catches)..

Jets would more than likely turn that one down IMO...

Any chance on this happening? Jets need a replacement for C. Martin.
Uh no...that won't happen.

Right now the two teams we are talking with are the Redskins and the Broncos...

My gut feeling is that the Jets will trade him to the Skins, but I would prefer trading him to the broncos for one of their first rounders...

If we traded with the Skins it would probably involve Ramsey, second round this year and a third rounder in 2007...

My problems with Abraham:

1. Injury issues
2. Hes only 258 pounds

Trading DD would be a bad move. We need him even if we draft Bush.

just wondering here .. last I heard Arrington was in the doghouse in washington.. has any talk of arrington-abraham???

I don't follow the 'skins so not sure if Arrington is still in the dog house.. I would think both players are in need of a change of scenery ..

I don't see why the Jets would want Ramsey (hasn't been able to beat out an old, hobbled Brunell for the starting job) but if they do and the Texans have to give up DD to upgrade a position then so be it. Davis is the closest reflection we have to Bush's talents and don't need them competing for touches; Wells can do the short yardage work, and Morency can handle normal spelling.

We aren't getting rid of Davis. Kubiak already said that he would be a more effective running back if the Texans added another quality running back to help him (I wonder who that is?).

Hollings and Wells are going to be cut and Morency will be the third string back like this year.

I like Dominic Davis. But with his injuries over the past, I find it hard to believe people are saying that he's a premier back (or that he would be better to have than Reggie Bush... sorry, but when you say we don't need RB because we have DD - that's what you're saying). He's a quality back, but his lack of durability will keep him from being a premier back. :twocents:

John Abraham is pretty good, but that's alot of money to pay to an aging player. Isn't the reason he's getting out of the Jets organization because they won't sign him to a long term deal? I wonder why? DD is too young to waste in a trade like this, won't happen.

Right.........
He can Motor and is strong for his pounds.

Well then how do you know that Peek and Babin cant? :P.. the point is that we already have enough undersized DEs..we need some meat. I wouldnt be against getting Abraham cause he puts up good numbers, but not for DD.

The DD backers (of which i am 1) have made the argument over and over on this. He keeps getting hobbled, n' nicked up because the former coaching staff didnt change him out of the game enough for a guy like Wells or Morency to speel him a lil' more. Even Blind Freddy can see that logic. Its not that we think it's better to have him than have Reggie Bush, it's that we know that unless DD gets reps out of the game here and there he'll be no good in 2 years time whether we have Reggie Bush or not...

Wells is a FA .... I REALLY hope he returns to the Texans next year . He's a solid back-up and a stand-out special teams player . The Texans need MORE players like Wells not less ....He likely wont cost an arm and a leg to keep .

As for Hollings he should have been cut last season.

Would I trade DD for Abe ? If Bush is the #1 pick ... yes I would . Otherwise No.

Dwight Freeney is 268 on the roster listed by Yahoo. Is he too small?

Dwight Freeney is a great pass rusher. Small guys are good for pass rushing. The Defensive line is not all about pass rushing.

Grid, you're kidding, right? If you expect any 'tweener' to be able to perform in a 4-3 like Dwight Freeney . . ???

Where are you going with that one?

I think I'm going to have to agree with Corrosion here. I think Wells is worth more than we give him credit for. We don't need Bush, but he'd be my choice (now that Carr is signed) if we're not going to trade down, which is what I've wanted all along.

For one.. I dont expect many..if ANY..DEs to perform like Dwight Freeney.

But what is the difference between one 250-260 pound DE and another? "Tweener" is just a different way of saying "small DE". Freeney and Abraham are Tweeners that happened to be given a chance at DE instead of being drafted by a 3-4 team.

As I said..I like Abraham's production...and I wouldnt mind having him..but I wouldnt give up DD for him, especially because he isnt exactly what we need. We have two undersized DEs already...we need more meat for the Dline.

I don't want to get rid of DD because he was the only real production with consistency on our team even when he was out with injury.

wouldn't DD count as $8 million to the cap if he is traded?? Is Abraham worth that??

What I am worried about is trading one injury-player for another injury-player. What I'm saying is that, where both are productive when they do play, which one do we want more. DD or Abraham. I personally would love to have Abraham, but I don't think at the expense of DD.

So far DD has received about $5 mil in signing bonus and has run off 1 year of pro-ration of that amount. He is due another $3 mil bonus at some point this year. He could be traded prior to payment of that bonus for the remainder of the prorated bonus he has already been paid, so around $4 mil. After he gets paid the $3 mil, that amount would have to be added.

It is way to early to call Domanick Injury prone. Teach the offensive line how to block, get him into the secondary untouched, like you want for Reggie, and he'll be injury free. & if you think Reggie can get into the secondary untouched behind our line, I've only got one thing to say to you.

Puff, Puff, pass beatch...... it's not puff, puff hold........... puff, puff, pass.....:)

In his first three years, Domanick has started more games(40) & ran for more yards(3195) than Shawn Alexander(29 games, 2806yrds his first three years), Tiki Barber(11 games, 935yards his first three years), Mike Anderson(31 games, 2551 yards), Deuce McAllister(35 games, 3120 yards), Jamal Lewis( 28 games, 2691 yards), Priest Holmes (17 games, 1514 yards), Edgerin James(38 games, 3931 yards who averaged 4.3 yards per carry his first three years, where DD is averaging 4.1), and Stephen Jackson(who only started 18 games in 2 season..... averaging 4.4 ypc over 2 years.)

running backs get beat up the first couple/three years in the league....... it's normal. DD, is not injury prone.... well it's too early to say really.

I think it would be premature to trade him at this point..... improve the blocking on the offensive line...... DD, Wells, & Morency would've rushed for 1800/2100 yards behind Denver's line.

I completely agree. Arguably, DD would not have been injured as much if we didn't run the type of offense we did. We tried to use him like the Titans used Eddie George...basically, he was our ONLY productive offense. The defense never had to worry about anything else, and as Thunderkyss pointed out, he was still very successful.

While DD can take a pounding, he DOES need to be subbed for every now and then to reduce his wear and tear and give him a breather. Wells always seemed to be a productive sub, but we only put him in the game when DD was injured. If Wells had subbed for DD on a regular basis, DD probably wouldn't have had as many injuries....just another example of stupid coaching decisions IMO.

Bottom line, in regards to the original poster's question, I do NOT want to lose DD. I would like to have Abraham, but definitely not at the expense of DD.

Jets just signed Derrick Blaylock last year to a five-year deal worth $11.1 million, including a $3.2 million signing bonus to be Martin's replacement. No way the throw that money away and take on more salary RB.

Dwight Freeney is three inches shorter than Abraham and still comes in ten pounds heavier.

How many sacks can you blame on D.D.? He doesn't even block worth a flip!!!
Give me Bush and Morency. Keep Wells for 3rd string and Special teams. nuff said!

Before we go that Far, I'd like to see Reggie Bush pick up Dwight Freeny in pass protection.

Im a Jet fan and we dont need to trade one pain in the a** for another! Would rather have a 1st. rd. draft pick for him and start fresh.

I never said that DD was injury prone, just that he's had injuries during his first three years. I don't want to get rid of DD, I think he's solid.

Trading DD is silly. Bush is still a big question mark as their are tons of examples where first-round RBs became busts. DD is far from a bust, especially when you look at his accomplishments behind a very weak offensive line. If anything, trade the question mark and see if you can get upgrades elsewhere. Davis could be a superstar in the right situation. Bush is nothing but questionable at this point.
