What top 5 players in order would you like to see your Texans Pick at 23 and 54 & 55 If you were the GM. No trades just your top players.

#23
- Andre Dillard-OT
- Ed Oliver-DT
-Jonah Williams-OT
-Garret Bradbury-OL
-Greedy Williams- CB

#54 & 55- 10 Players
-Chris Lindstrom-OL
-Justin Layne- CB
-Greg Little-OT
-Erik Mccoy-OL
-Jeffrey Simmon-DL
-Caleb McGarey-OT
-Julian Love-CB
-Jeffrey Tillery-DL
-Elgton Jenkins-OL
-Tytus Howard-OT

Getting 1 from the first group and 2 from the second group would be a home run.

Group 1 I've got 6

Dillard
Jonah Williams
Greedy Williams
Oliver
Long
Risner

Group 2 top 6

Little
Cajuste
Howard
Lindstrom
McLaurin
Layne

Out of those and who's most likely to be there at 23/54/55

Give me

Risner/Cajuste/Long

I still feel like RT/RG/C- Risner, C/OG- McCoy and CB- Mullen will be there for the taking. Maybe CB- Johnson is a RD2 pick after his Pro Day.....hard to deny a CB who's 6-2 @ 195 lbs, runs a low 4.4-40 or maybe even a high 4.3-40 and likes get his hands dirty. My kind of player.

Matter of a fact, I wouldn't be to unhappy if the Texans took Risner, McCoy, and Johnson. 3 athletes who play the game smart but with a nasty streak.

Round 1 (I have 6)

J. Williams OT
A. Dillard OT
D. Risner OT
B. Murphy CB
N. Adderley S/CB

Round 2

C. Lindstrom OL
J. Love CB
T. Mullen CB
E. McCoy OL
J. Simmons DL
M. Sanders RB
K. McGary OT
T. Howard OT
A. Hooker S
Y. Cajuste OT

Ultimately I’d be happy with any of these scenarios in the first 2 rounds:

Williams/Love/McCoy

Risner/Mullen/Howard

Murphy/Howard/McGary

You talking about Isiah Johnson?

I could get on board with this.

Getting 1 from the first group and 2 from the second group would be a home run.
#23 - Jonah Williams but it would be excruciating to pass on Ed Oliver.
#54 & #55 - Jerry Tillery and I get a bonus with Erik McCoy still on the board.
Man, if Texans get these three, it would be a coup for them.

Chris Lindstrom, Jerry Tillery, and Julian Love will all be gone before our 2nd round picks. They are all fringe 1st rounders.

So who are your top 5 and Top 10? Fringe 1st rounders fall all the time. Lindstrom is the least likely of the group to be available.

Which defense of backs do you think will be available with our second round picks come along?

I expect Greedy, Murphy, Oruwariye, Layne, and Love to be off the board for sure. Mullen, Baker, and Bunting could be as well but might still be available. That would leave David Long, Isaiah Johnson, and Rock Ya-Sin as the other top CB options.

As far as pure cover guys go I want Murphy, Greedy, Love, then Long.

Oruwariye, Layne, Mullen, Bunting, Johnson, and Ya-Sin are all press guys who have the athleticism but lack the top notch cover skills I'd prefer.

Baker is a headcase who I wouldn't even draft.

As far as need goes...

Round 1
Dillard (OT)
Williams (OT)
Murphy (CB)
Lindstrom (OG)
Bradbury (C)

Round 2
Risner (G/T)
Long (CB)
Cajuste (OT)
Howard (OT)
Little (OT)

But if I thought a 1st round talent at a non-need position fell into the 2nd round I'd swipe them up in a heartbeat.

Man even without the CB this team desperately needs I would take this in a heartbeat. Although there have been some questions about Tillery's love of the game.

Add a CB like Long in the 3rd or trade into the late 2nd for him using next yrs picks and this would be arguably the best draft in Texans history.

In the 2nd of course I love Long and think Bunting and Isiah Johnson are well worth picks at 55.

Yes....yes I am. That kid is going to be the real deal. 6-2 @ 195 lbs and could be a 4.3 to 4.4-40 kind of guy who doesn't mind laying the lumber. UH has had some really good defensive backs over the last 5 years and I think IJ could be the best they've moved towards the NFL.

I tried to keep it as realistic as possible from the players I would like to see taken at these spots.
If Texans get to pick from these groups it will be pretty cool indeed:-
#23:
Andre Dillard OL !
Greedy Williams CB
Dexter Lawrence DL
Dalton Risner OL
Garrett Bradbury C

#54, #55:
Elgton Jenkins C
Erik McCoy OL !
Rock Ya Sin CB
Juan Thornhill S
Greg Little OT
Gerald Willis III DL
Julian Love CB
Taylor Rapp S !
Jaylon Ferguson Edge

I pretty much agree with you except I would move Greedy to category 2 and replace him in Cat 1 with Byron Murphy. Don't know Thornhill

I prefer Murphy over Greedy as well, but I'm thinking he won't make it out of the top dozen or so.

Top Five's:

1st round: These are the guys I think are the safest picks that fit our needs.
Andre Dillard-OT
Jonah Williams-OT
Greedy Williams-CB
Byron Murphy-CB
Cody Ford-OT/OG
Chris Lindstrom-OG

2nd round:
Trayvon Mullen-CB
Amani Oruwariye-CB
Kaleb McGary-OT
Michael Dieter-OT/OG
Greg Little-OT/OG

You would take Murphy over greedy Williams for this team? I like Murphy but given a choice of the two it’s a no brained for me. Williams hands down. We have to draft a CB that has press abilities and speed IMO. We draft a 4.55 CB and we will be stuck running this off man crap that’s been negating our front seven for the last few years.

Man a lot of people have Chris Lindstrom rated high. Need to watch his game against Clemson. He’s not that good. He’s not horrible but he’s no better than a day three pick to me.

2019 Top-Ten Texans #23 Big Board..

What surgeries were done and how long ago? I thought he played all of last season.

Doc laid out the detail. Maybe he can chime in or point to his prior post. It was one on each shoulder.

Personal experience is you learn to live with and compensate for shoulder injuries. They don't really go away.

And shoulder is the biggest impact point for an OLman.

What surgeries were done and how long ago? I thought he played all of last season.

OK, after a little digging, I found that he had surgery on the left shoulder sometime in December of 2017 and the Doctors thought he might need it on his right shoulder also but then later decided it would heal with rest. He was healthy, as far as I could tell, all of the 2018 season and his shoulders are fine now. He did 23 bench press reps at the Combine with no problems. If he's there at #23 I would have no problems with the Texans taking him and I think there's a good chance he will be there. Just don't know who else will be there and where the Texans will have him ranked.

Here's a link: https://www.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article208705564.html

Risner said he had played through pain in his left shoulder since the middle of his sophomore campaign and then hurt his right shoulder as a junior. Throw in a high-ankle sprain suffered in the second game of the season against Charlotte and it was a painful year.

Link

So he has played thru pain & his right shoulder is unoperated. Plenty of guys who grade higher. No need to take the risk.

I like this guy alot but understand where you're coming from.

Depending who's on the board would depend on whether I would pick him.

For instance, would you rather take a chance on Little or Risner?

How about Baker vs Risner.

I do think Risner is Texans worthy and will make it thru his 1st contract unscathed.

Are Oliver, Taylor, Lawrence, Jacobs, Williams available?

You know I would have passed on Clowney over his untreated bone spurs. I'm not big on injury risk in the 1st. Someone drops a round or two below play level, sure.

Lawrence and Jacobs would be in this scenario.

I'd take either of them 1st. Lean Jacobs but could be persuaded Lawrence.

I'm not a big Jacobs fan. He's a good back but not what I'm looking for in a 1st rd RB.

I'm talking about drafting an Elliott/Fournette/Mixon type RB if I'm drafting one that early.

Give me depending on the type of RB you're looking for Sanders/Henderson/Ozigbo/Montgomery in the 3rd.

I like Lawrence alot but think the need to fix the OL is too great. I consider Risner/Lawrence to be the same type of talents, so I could be persuaded to take Lawrence.

Just as fyi, grades from NFL.com:

Cody Ford, OL, OU - 5.95

In this thread, Wolf5161 & Mollywhopper are the only ones waiting Cody Ford in the first round. NFLN just did a mock with the Texans taking him at 23.

What say the rest of you? I don't even see him in your 2nd round selections. Do you not want him at all? Or do you think he should go somewhere between 23 & 54?

Some likely won't be available, but I'd take at 23:
Dillard, OT
Greedy Williams, CB
Hockenson, TE
Danny Jones, QB
Jonah Williams, OT

You want a Colts-like turnaround on the OL? Draft one of those OL round 1 and imagine a world where Greg Little falls to 54 due to overanalysis and the dreaded “soft label”.

Now that’s two rookie starting OL I can support adding to the team!

It would be wonderful if Dillard fell to 23 and Risner/Little/McGary falls to 54.

What I could see is a trade back and picking Little. Then picking a guy like Edoga at 54. If Risner/McGary aren't there.

I think there’s a good chance one of those 3 falls to 54. With that being said I think there’s an argument to be made for taking Bradbury to solidify the interior then shore up OT with one of those guys way more talented than pick 54. But the board falls funny on draft day for some positions.

Oh, I agree, Bradbury would certainly be an upgrade over Martin and probably kick Martin to an OG depth piece (Probably what he should be) As long as they get an OT at 54.

What I might do if I didn't want to take a chance is pick Risner and either put him at C or RT and be very happy for the next 5 yrs.

Based only on my understanding that we can take one from first and two from second groups and that they would be available, Jonah at 23 Greg Little and Love in round two. It' s really tempting to go Greedy @ 23 and Little and Love in second as I could prob get Scharping round three.

Here’s 5 players from each position that I wouldn’t mind seeing in a Texans jersey:

1. J. Williams (highly doubt he’ll be there at 23, but one could hope)

3. K. McGary
4. T. Howard

6. C. Ford

iOL
1. E. McCoy
2. C. Lindstrom
