Dungy-
"Well, I'm a defensive guy and the cornerstone of most championships teams is defense, if it's not a quarterback," Dungy said. "I remember coming to Pittsburgh early as a young guy and they were in the midst of a championship run. Everybody was excited, but (Steelers) Coach (Chuck) Noll took a lot of grief for taking a young guy by the name of Joe Greene with his first pick. It turned out pretty good."

Nice post, Hulk. Dungy is one of the most respected coaches in the NFL, and his opinion carries more weight than any of the talking heads on ESPN or fishwrap writers (at least to me).

If Williams can be half the defender that Mean Joe was back in the day, we'll get at least one championship appearance on that talent alone. Those are some big shoes to fill, but we can still stay optimistic that Mario will be a dominating presence as he learns how to deal with veteran offensive linemen.

I appreciate those words coming from Dungy, this guy knows talented defensive guys. This being said, I'm not all down on Mario about his performance so far. It's just a matter of time before MW breaks out. This guy is still very young and the learning curve is overwhelming him at this point in time. He is going to get better but no one knows when, and I could understand if some people are frustrated with that but these people are being a'lil to overbearing with thier expectations for the guy. Don't get me wrong, I want MW to knock Manning's dome off Sunday, but the fact is he still is learning how to put together his game against 300lb linemen that are just as good as he is. For those who's saying he is a bust is just DUMB!! Get your heads out of MADDEN and realize this is the NFL. Mario will be just fine and the key word here is PATIENCE. I know some guys would disagree with my statements but this is my final answer and I'm sticking with it. One more thought for the road, comparing MW and RB is a woudda, coudda, shoudda situation that's washed up and I'm for one is satisfied on the player we got.:twocents:

well....... aren't some of the talking heads excoaches??

Jimmy Johnson on Fox. Mooch on the NFL network.....

Everytime I see Mooch on NFL network, he's acting drunk or geeked up off something. Maybe it's his personality, I don't know.

ESPN has "Jaws" though. An excellent QB in his day.:sarcasm:

what a surprise. would any of you expect an opposing coach to badmouth an opposing team's player?

not to mention, dungy's not on the hook for the pick in the first place. it's not like in 6 or 7 years sombody's going to say, "coach dungy's a jackass because mario williams ended up being a bust."

I betcha Mike Ditka would've:wild:

You know..... I think Ricky has shown us on the field why Ditka's trade wasn't a bad trade.

Ditka might not have talked to & interviewed Ricky before hand, thinking he didn't have a shot at him..... so he really didn't know what he was getting into. But if Ricky wasn't such a head case, & a pothead, that would have been one of the best trades ever.

Sure, Philly passing no Ricky(kinda like us passing on Reggie), then Indy (who along with Philly was in need of a runningback) passing on Ricky should've told him something.......

Kubiak had to say this about moving him around..............

"I think a lot of times when players get bored, they get a little stagnant. You've got to challenge a guy every week to make sure that you've got his attention."

I dont agree with kubiak here, HOW is playing DE and sacking QBs boreing? I could see maybe when he is in the league for a long period of time and you want him to stay focused.

I would think "Challenging" Mario right now would be faceing guys like TreThomas, John Runyan and this week Terrick Glenn and then next week Samuales. How can you get bored facing guys like this every week and getting sacks.

That's what I've been saying! :yikes:

Something makes me think if Mario found success at LDE he wouldn't get bored for a really long time. I don't know, maybe that's just me.

Ricky Williams infamously was a "cat person" on one of those psychological tests... but was pretty good when you strap the pads on him. I thought Indy took Edge for his pass catching ability though... he was a pretty nice fit there.

I thought that was a rather strange comment from Kubiak. Bored? Not a chance.

Methinks he was just tired of being asked why he was moving players around so much and just threw that out there. His real reason might come off sounding as critical and I don't think he wants to project that right now. He wants to keep it positive and encouraging.

DING,DING,DING,DING- we have a winner...infairness was anybody expecting Dungy to say 'mario looks like a bust to me..HAHA..them dumb ole texans have done it again..passing on reggie bush..MY GOD' the week before we play them....maybe dungy does like mario but that was nothing other than a textbook answer about an opposing teams player the week you're playing them

Are you this negative and assuming in your real life? Is your glass always half empty! Tony DUngy is a "standup" guy and shoots pretty straight from everything I've always heard from him. He didn't have to expound on it if he didn't mean it. I choose to believe!!!

Does it make any difference to you that that was Mario and all of our other rookies FIRST NFL GAME? Give the guy a break.

Actually, never mind. Move to New Orleans....

ESPN has a deal with Bush or rathr Bush has signed with ESPN (He does their commercials, sells that ESPN phone etc...) So no matter what MW does, he might never get the respect from ESPN (of course will they have time to do a story with the Yanks, Red Sox and TO).
