Fred Miller
Kevin Carter
Samari Rolle
Derek Mason
Joe Nedney
Robert Holcombe

Official announcement by Reese just a little while ago.

I'd hate to be them right now. I'd hate to lose star players like that...that made the team a powerful team a few years ago.

But that's what happens when you are 28 million over the cap.

I would like to have Mason. He may not be the "speedster" that we need, but hes a football player. A damn good one.

Rolle gets hurt, and stays hurt.
Miller, no, he is old, and wouldnt be an upgrade.
Carter is a 4-3 player. I think he will want to stay that way.
Nedney - Have Brown.
Holcomb - good player. But i dont think we need a pass catching FB. We dont have enough footballs for him.

Since when did the Texans need more speed at WR? Did AJ (looked REALLY fast in the skill comp) Gaff, and BadFord suddenly slow down? How fast do you want it? You can't get much faster....

Kevin Carter is a tweener DT/DE type, He can go to 3-4, or 4-3. It doesn't matter.

Rolle is not as injury prone as you want to paint him. He has missed a few games here and there, most of them the past two years. He is one of the top cover corners in the NFL and can take guys out of the game.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans released six players, including four starters led by receiver Derrick Mason, on Monday in an attempt to cut up to $27 million as the team tries to get under the NFL's salary cap.

General manager Floyd Reese said they released cornerback Samari Rolle, defensive lineman Kevin Carter, right tackle Fred Miller _ all starters with Mason. They also cut fullback Robert Holcombe and kicker Joe Nedney.

The Titans are the NFL's third winningest team since 1997, and Reese said they are paying the price now for trying to maintain that success. He pointed out that they reached the 2000 Super Bowl, played in two AFC Championships and lost twice to the eventual Super Bowl champions in other years (Baltimore in 2001, New England in 2004).

"We're done manipulating. Now we're going to fix this," Reese said.

The general manager said team officials had been struggling to find a way out of their salary cap problem, even holding off some cuts until after June 1 to spread the money out further.

"We can't get it there. The second thing you do is make significant cap adjustments now, which in essence is what we're going to do," Reese said.

These cuts will clear 80 percent of the $27 million that the team is over the cap. The Titans are reworking a few other contracts, and Reese said Monday's moves will allow the Titans to tender offers to their 10 restricted free agents and all their exclusive rights free agents.

The Titans also will be able to exercise options to retain receiver Drew Bennett, cornerback Tony Beckham and linebacker Rocky Boiman.

Tennessee has the No. 6 pick overall in the draft, their highest since picking Steve McNair third overall in 1995. Reese said they will attempt to model Baltimore's cap-cutting moves by cutting as deep as possible in one year and build for the future through the draft.

Im not sure if you were aware of this, but Bradford is probably packin. He was the "speedster" that ran off the DB's, and S's, so that Johnson could work his magic.

Johnson is a burner with or without one opposite of him. And Gaff isn't exactly slow.
Anyway, Leaving(hopefully) Staying, eitherway the Texans should focus on picking up on someone who can catch the ball and move the chains for first downs consistantly. Someone like a David Givens.

The best of Both worlds would be Coles, but that's a little outside reality isn't it. ^_^

We don't have cap room to sign a high-profile wide-reciever.
The WR issue needs to be adressed in the draft, where he can groom behind Andre.

I agree, but it would be lovely if we could get Dyson

Both of them were drafted by Bud's boys though. Smith in 2000, and Walker in 1995.

This purge reminds me of the one that brought them McNair and George and their Super Bowl run. They let Moon, Dishman, Fuller, and Sean Jones all go to other teams at once as well.

This is more than a purge, this is a major flush in the Tack org. So how long do y'all think it will take them to be the Music City Miracles again? 2 years? 5 years? Next year (LOL!)? :hmmm:

Any information coming out yet about either Steve McNair or Jeff Fisher and their future with the Titans?

790 noted that McNair was working out from his surgery and that his contract has been restructured to "free up" $5 mil. They had John Clyton on and mentioned how it was better to release some of the higher contracts (obviously) while trying to keep the O-line intact for McNair.
