Thoughts on Hunter Henry?

I'm no draft guru like a lot of posters here but in an effort to cover my bases I've been watching a bit of this guy play. He has the size OB likes at the TE position (6'5" 250) and he's the total package at TE. Lance Zierlein has him compared to Jason Witten on his nfl.com writeup.

Where would you rank him alongside likely WRs/OTs that may be available where the Texans pick? Just as good a prospect? Is the position as big a need or will it be upgraded with superior Qb play and the gap between Fiedo/Griffin and Henry isn't as large as Doctson/Coleman and Jaelen Strong/Shorts?

I think the consensus is that overall it's a weak draft class but he is the best of what is available. That alone will drive his value up.

I think he should get a hard look at #22. Something like 51 passes this past season without a single drop. His comp is Jason Witten. I think Brock would enjoy having a solid safety valve as much as a speedster WR. Seems like a solid kid who can potentially be our pro-bowl TE for the next decade.

"He's the most complete tight end to come out in years. He's a legitimate first-round pick," an NFL scout told New Jersey Advance Media. "You have had so many tight ends who were nothing more than big wide receivers. This kid is a complete tight end. He can catch, he can run and he can block."

Agreed, I certainly wouldn't have an issue with Henry @ 22. He could be the Texans Eifert.

If he was the pick, and I don't believe he will be, I'll try to support it but would be very disappointed. There are a lot of other players I'd rather have at #22

His value has been driven up by...

1) This being an extremely weak TE class
2) He can block; he's a true in-line guy instead of a flex guy (his value is inflated similar to how QB's value get inflated for coming from pro-style offenses instead of spreads)

Scouts are drooling over him because 9/10 TE's that come out these days can't block. But just because he can block doesn't make him a more dangerous player. He's more well-rounded, but he still tested as a slightly below average athlete at the Combine. Fiedorowicz could block when he came out too and look how that's going. Let me show you a comparison...

Player A
116 Catches
1661 Yards (14.3 ypc)
9 TD's

Player B
116 Catches
1500 Yards (12.9 ypc)
10 TD's

One of those is Hunter Henry's college stats. The other is Ryan Griffin's. I don't say all this because I think he's a bad player, but I never watched his film and thought to myself that he was a 1st rounder.

I would not be happy if he were our pick at #22, MAYBE if he's still there in the 3rd round. Just because he's the best this year doesn't mean he's comparable to other great TE's. I wasn't impressed by his film as a receiver, good blocker though.

I'm liking the potential of Tyler Higbee. How serious was his knee injury? He's projected not to be ready for training camp, but I'm thinking to place him on the physically unable to perform list for his first year, giving him time to not only fully recover but a year in the weight room,

The scoop on him is that he has the best hands among the TE's and catches everything thrown his way. At 6'-6" and 250# he still runs 4.6.

If he lasted to the 5th I'd take a flyer on him. Comments.

Where is this from?

Well in fairness I and it seems a lot of others call anything 4.60 to 4.69 a 4.6 or 'in the 4.6s' if not specifying the hundredths.

If we're talking throughout the year more at large and someone says, 'oh ya, but Jaelen Strong can do some things as a 4.4 guy...', then I get being a bit more casual with it, but I think this is a good time of year to speak as specifically as possible when selling attributes. Not talking 4.67464438 specific, of course. Just that we all know some folks will try and fudge things in favor of 'their guy', and there's a legit difference between 4.67 and 4.6-flat.

Not the biggest thing to moan about, and I'll stop being the nanosecond-nazi now, just think it's a fair point for honest prospect chatter.

The Tyler Higbee that I'm referring to is 6'-6", 250 lbs and from Western Kentucky. He is still rehabbing from late December knee surgery and did not run at either the combine or his pro day. But the 4.6 time is only an estimate, the best I could find, and meaning I suppose that he is expected to have sub 4.7 speed. He is a former wide receiver and his skill level reflects this.

I am wondering at the severity of his knee injury and how it might impact his pro career and what would be an appropriate round to take a chance on him. His report says he may not be 100% by training camp but says he is a "well developed top 150 prospect". It also says that if he was healthy he might be ranked as high as the #2 or #3 best TE prospect.

Sounds like much ado about not much at all... doubt it affects his draft status

Higbee and two others fled on foot from a police officer who gave chase through a parking lot before the officer made contact, according to the report. Higbee told police that he and his girlfriend had been at a different establishment, Dublin's, where they were repeatedly bothered by an "individual of Middle Eastern descent," who then followed the two to Tidball's, according to the report. While at the jail, Higbee acknowledged hitting Alsaleh once, according to the police report.
