The "other" Williams

What are your thoughts on the viability of us grabbing Deangelo Williams if we were to trade up into the first round (Bears or Patriots pick)? I have heard that he could go anywhere from 21st overall to the early second round.

While many will disagree, I think he is the only other rb that we should focus on in the early rounds...

I have him as the #1 RB! I have seen him in person the past three yrs, and he has a unique running style, very comparable to LT (not BWestbrook like so many think).

Like Williams alot too, but if unavailable there are two others I could also accept, Maroney and Addai

I just don't know what Maroney and/or Addai give us that DD cannot provide - outside of his durability issues.

Both are much faster than Domanick and both have pretty good hands too and just give us another solid RB option without injury concerns. I don't see them moving up high enough to get DeAngelo, I think at minimum they'd have to move up to #20 to get him and I don't see that happening. If they move up it's for Maroney or possibly Addai if Maroney is gone.

If that is the case, I would rather stay put and focus on the o-line.

I wanted him more than Reggie Bush from the beginning... But I doubt we get him even if we do trade up.

As long as Casserly is at the helm, We'll end up picking some guy most have never heard of.

Addai has had some injury problems and last year was the only season he was the fulltime starter and he didn't play like 3 games cuz of an ankle injury. Plus LSU have alot of good backs they rotated so he didn't average 20 or more carries a game.

Am I the only person on the planet who likes Maurice Drew? He's like 5'-7" and weighs 206 or something and has thighs like Earl Campbell's. I don't know what he did at the combine but I think I remember it was pretty good.

why are the texans set on taking a RB? I heard them talking about how that is their plan now after taking williams #1. Why not address the best available player at the needed positions (o-line, TE, LB, safety)?

I thought you don't draft for need (as in they desperately needed a Stud DE), you draft to make the fans and media happy!

I would absolutely love to draft Deangelo...He fits exactly what we need at RB -- a proven back who can not only break off the long run, but he can run between the tackles as well...He's a much better fit for this team than Bush since Bush has little value to us as a WR and KR...We need a pure RB to platoon with Davis, and Williams would be awesome in that role...My only concern is that we'll have to trade up in order to get him, and that leaves me a little wary...Any way you slice it, though, Super Mario + Deangelo > Bush + Hali/Kiwanuka...

If we can get DeAngelo then it's not so bad really. You get far and away the best pure defensive end in the draft and the second best runner. Not too shabby.

Actually some say he might be better than Bush. He didn't have the supporting cast that Bush had.

If we are speaking in terms of pure running ability, then Williams is superior to Bush...The main reason that Bush is looked at as a better prospect is that he is a more dynamic playmaker, and he is capable of lining up in the slot and returning kicks...

Rumor is that we are likely to trade back into the 1st. What are we targeting?
1. A CB - We desparately need a 2nd one
2. A LB - Cowart is a temporary solution at MLB and there are still a lot of questions about who plays LLB/SLB (Greenwood is WLB). Now that we seem "stacked" at DE, I wonder if we trade Peek or Babin or we try Babin at 4-3 OLB.
3. An OT - Wand is still a gamble and Wiegert is more suited to playing OG
4. An offensive playmaker - a WR, TE, or RB that will add some explosiveness to the team

Look at what Kubiak saw at Denver. They had no problems putting together a rushing attack and finding O-linemen to fit their system. Where they have struggled is to find D-lineman and CB's. My gut feeling is that they are trading into the first to find another CB. If you look at Denver, it really is no mystery why Kubiak preferred Williams over Bush.

I believe based on all of the film they have been watching that Marshall (CB) from Fresno State could be on that list. Some believe he is a sleeper. The other person is D Williams. He could be better than Bush when it comes to the NFL.

Nope. I like him alot. I think he is sooo underated because of his size.

I'm more impressed with him as a person than a RB. If we got him people would forget this Reggie thing pretty quick.

Oh, but here comes the big reality bug...gulp! It won't happen and if it does, it will cost us...
