Veteran
Mock Draft.
Without Trades
Houston Texans – Reggie Bush – Barring a trade down for D'Brickashaw Ferguson, the Texans will go with a backfield tandem of Bush and Morency. The Texans will then trade D. Davis for additional pick(s)/players.
New Orleans Saints – Matt Leinart – The former Heisman Trophy winner will be the face of this franchise in a city in dire need of a new face. If he doesn’t pull an Eli/Elway, expect lion heart to be in the city where jazz was born.
Tennessee Titans – Vince Young – Under the tutelage of Steve McNair & Norm Chow this is the best situation for Vince. Without the enormous pressure of playing in his hometown, Vince can be in a situation where he can succeed.
New York Jets – D’Brickashaw Ferguson – I expect a trade down here, but with the Jets needing some protection for whatever QB they decide to go with, he’s the safe pick and will be someone to build around for a long time.
Green Bay – A.J. Hawk – They could go with him or Mario Williams, but Lambeau Field will fall in love with the linebacker from Ohio St. A very all-around solid player.
Oakland – Mario Williams – Having lost out on their biggest need, a LB, they fix their other side of their Defensive Line with this Julius Peppers clone. A high-motor guy who is tough to stop.
San Francisco 49er’s – Vernon Davis – I know, a TE this high? With many holes to fill, I expect a trade down, but with not many weapons for the Alex Smith led offense, expect this pick to happen.
Buffalo Bills – Haloti Ngata – If they stick with the 3-4 defense under new coach Dick Jauron, expect them to pick this big body. A very talented, quick Defensive Lineman that will be able to take the pressure off the linebackers and allow them to make plays.
Detroit Lions – Tamba Hali – This is a team that could draft QB Jay Cutler but the option of Hali is just too much to pass. Of course, the Lions are always question marks on draft day, so pretty much expect anything.
Arizona Cardinals – DeAngelo Williams – It could be Lendale White, but with the games Williams has played, expect Dennis Green to take the back from Memphis to help fix their anemic running attack.
St. Louis – Michael Huff – This free safety from the national champs is a sure fire bet to be a great safety in the NFL for years to come. The Rams fix one of their glaring needs with the help coming to their defense.
Cleveland – Winston Justice – Depending on his combine, he could fall from this spot, but Cleveland picks up a good lineman at a troublesome tackle position. This pick also let’s them cut loose last year’s free agent acquisition Leonard Davis.
Baltimore Ravens – LenDale White – Bye Bye Jamal Lewis. Hello Jamal Lewis Clone. This big boy will slip right into the Ravens needs and give this team a new running boost.
Philadelphia – Santonio Holmes – What is a weak WR’s draft, the Eagles fill a need with the loss of Terrell Owens. Expect them to pick up another WR in the draft or in free agency.
Atlanta – Chad Greenway – Even though they have a great front 7, the addition of Greenway will help bolster this group of players. A very solid player from Iowa.
Miami – Jay Cutler – This guy fell right into Nick Saban’s lap. Even without Scott Linehan, new OC Mularkey will have a field day with what some say, is the most talented throwing QB in the draft.
Minnesota – Laurence Maroney – They need a solid RB, so they draft the guy from in-state Minnesota. Brad Childress will enjoy calling plays for this young runner.
Dallas – DeMeco Ryans – The staple of Alabama’s solid defense fills in for the Cowboys and helps replace the departure of Dat Ngyuen and does well in the 3-4.
San Diego – Ko Simpson – As much as I wish this guy would fall to the top of the 2nd round, the Chargers replace a hole in their secondary with a player with a lot of promise in just a 2? years of college.
Kansas City – Jonathan Scott – This aging offensive line get younger with the addition of this young stud from the UT. Larry Johnson will enjoy this guy blocking for him for years to come. Sorry Priest.
New England – Ernie Sims– It’s hard to picture what Mr. Bellichek will do, but he always likes adding pieces to his defense and this young LB will help fix an aging problem in the corps of linebackers.
Denver Broncos – Mathias Kiwanukia(sp?) – The Broncos had a tough time getting to the QB vs. the Super Bowl Champs and this addition will help fix that problem. The depth at the line is great. Their speed is not.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Eric Winston – Bucs fans have complained about their 2 offensive tackles and this Miami product gets to stay in Florida. Another possibility could be that Winston falls further in the draft and the Bucs draft a LB.
Cincinatti Bengals – Brodrick Bunkley – They need a DT to help shore up their run defense and he will help out immediately. Expect Marvin Lewis’ Defense to be one of the best in the next 2 years.
New York Giants – Ashton Youboty – The Giants pass defense isn’t the greatest and another Ohio St. product gets drafted. This CB is the first to go off the board.
Chicago – Derek Hagan – If Holmes falls this far, expect him to be picked. The Bears hope to get Hagan, and possibly Randel-El in free agency to help pick up their atrocious offense.
Carolina – Darnell Bing – If they do re-sign Mcree, then don’t expect this pick. If not, this standout USC product will the Panthers bound.
Jacksonville – Tye Hill – The Jags could use some bite in their pass defense and with the addition of Hill, their defense goes from pretty good to really good.
Denver – Mercedes Lewis – TE’s in the first round sometimes don’t pan out, but if they stick to their theme of going to the TE often, expect this rookie to make an immediate impact.
Indianapolis – Abdul Hodge – With the Colts likely losing their MLB to free agency, Greenway's cohort in crime will be joining the colts good lineup
Seattle – Chad Jackson – They could go defense, but their WR corps could always use another weapon. With Jurevicius a free agent, expect them to pick this WR to pick up the slack in his absence.
Pittsburgh – Sinorcie Moss – With the possible loss of Randel-El, they pick up a very talented Steve Smith Clone. The guys speed and talent is tremendous and the Champs pick up another weapon for their gadget plays.
I hope you enjoy it.
