The $11,700,824 Contract That Plunged the NFL Into Chaos

When Jayden Higgins signed his rookie contract with the Houston Texans, it looked like a routine transaction. Instead, it has led to an unprecedented standoff between teams and players.

Just a couple of weeks after the NFL draft this spring, the Houston Texans took the routine step of signing wide receiver Jayden Higgins to his rookie contract.

It was the sort of unremarkable move that would normally have gone unnoticed by everyone except Higgins’s closest relatives. Except this bit of paperwork sent shock waves across the league.
That’s because the deal came with a twist. All four years of Higgins’s contract were fully guaranteed, making him the first player picked outside of the first round ever to score such terms. Suddenly, every other second-round draft pick thought they should get a guaranteed deal, too.
Now, two months on, the result is an unprecedented, leaguewide standoff.

Not sure where this belongs as it's about the Texans top pick but is relevant to the whole league ?

Texans chose Higgins and paid him what they thought he was worth. If this creates a domino effect for “other” NFL teams, so be it. They should be just as sold on the players they selected in RD2. Hopefully, they all miss camp holding out for the Higgins deal. Go Texans.

Niners break 2nd round signing deadlock.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers reached a contract agreement with defensive tackle Alfred Collins on Wednesday night, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The rookie deal is worth $10.3 million over four years and includes $9 million guaranteed, sources said. It's a pact that is expected to have more wide-ranging implications in the NFL given that, before it, there had been an impasse between the league and all but two players drafted in the second round this year.

The 43rd pick in the 2025 draft, Collins was guaranteed 87% of his 4 year deal. 2024 pick #43, the Cardinal's Max Melton, had 79% of his contract guaranteed. So Collins received 8% more guaranteed $$$, similar to Higgins guarantee increase from the previous year.

It should be noted that the 2025 NFL salary cap went up around 8.5% from the 2024 cap. Kind of puts this rookie guaranteed money into perspective.
