Unfortunately it’s just a 1 year teaseHe is the best TE this team has had since Owen Daniels. A legitimate top 10 TE in the league that will be playing in a very TE friendly scheme. Man it feels good to have a legit TE on the roster again!
It’s a prove it contract. If he proves it then the Texans have the cap space to give him a long term deal. Or they have the cap space to give him the franchise tag like the Jags did with Engram.Unfortunately it’s just a 1 year tease
Between Robert Woods and Noah Brown, the WR blocking should be leveled up! Will the team finally run effective screen plays?
Great signing! There is only one TE in Texans history with more TD's and receptions than Schultz has had in the last 3 years - Owen Daniels over 8 seasons.

I for one, love this signing. Pierce is only human and will need a breather just like anyone else.Texans have also signed Bills RB Singletsry to one year deal
I love the way he runs too.SIngletary is, I believe, a better receiver and has more speed. Variable talent to keep defense guessing…
We're probably going to draft Bijan & trade Pierce for a pick swapSIngletary is, I believe, a better receiver and has more speed. Variable talent to keep defense guessing…
You need to be banned for even putting that in the air j/jk lol. We're probably going to draft Bijan & trade Pierce for a pick swap
Heresy! Suspend yourself for a week. We're probably going to draft Bijan & trade Pierce for a pick swap
Wait I thought Schultz was the tight end everyone was talking about? I just can not keep up.I agree. Nail the draft and breast offseason.

Fluff. He’s not known as a good blocker.
Schultz is the most complete TE the Texans ever had.He is the best TE this team has had since Owen Daniels. A legitimate top 10 TE in the league that will be playing in a very TE friendly scheme. Man it feels good to have a legit TE on the roster again!
Again, another great analysis.Schultz is the most complete TE the Texans ever had.
OD was a pretty good blocking TE, but I think Schultz is better at it.
He's been rated top ten two years in a row, and watching his game, I can see why.
He's right close to the elite tier.
He's not dominant in any aspect, but he does them all quite well.
His football IQ is his best asset.
He's similar to Thielen and Cooper Kupp at receiver.
He's not as physical as Kelce or Gronk; same as Thielen and Kupp as compared to the dominant receivers.
He understands scheme/defense so he can find the open spot in the zone.
He would have make Gary Kubiak love him the way he block or pretend to block and then release out to the open spot.
He's pretty good at breaking tackles and using his blockers with natural vision.
The Texans are coming full circle to Kubiak's WCO and I think Schultz is a natural fit.
It's not about being dominant, but to run the offense as it's designed to be run.
Leverage, deception. Diminishing the opponent's strength.
DR may not be an offensive coach, but he has seen these systems between the time he played for Kubiak and the time he coached under Kyle Shanahan.
His defense practiced against the WCO for so long; I have no doubt he had learned about it more than enough to provide great input to his OC.
He graded out as one of the better blocking TE's in the leagueFluff. He’s not known as a good blocker.

Seth Payne just posted a podcast on youtube gushing about how good of a blocker Schultz is with accompanying clips.Ive listened to several podcast where they have stated concerns about his blocking.
I believe Seth pain was one of them. I’ve also e
read that in several Dallas sports outlets.

The Cowboys' Dalton Schultz Dilemma Will Shape Next Year's Passing Game
Dallas' starting tight has been franchise tagged. What the team does from here will have major ramifications for its offense.www.dmagazine.com
I’ve always been hesitant to reference PFF’s grades (as opposed to their advanced metrics), but I do think they’ve become more reliable over the years. Last season, Schultz finished with the eighth-best run block grade and the twelfth-best pass-block grade, numbers that are significantly better than his reputation. I suspect this might be because when a player has a handful of really ugly reps throughout a season in key moments, those become the examples we use to define an overall body of work. Leaving Schultz to deal with the opponent’s best pass rusher—Chandler Jones, for example, gave him fits in the loss to Arizona—is going to be a problem. He also had some significant whiffs in space on screens. In general, though, I think his blocking is like most pass-catching tight ends in 2022: fine. If you overexpose his weaknesses as a blocker, you will pay for it.

this is cowboy fans talking about his blocking. I’ve listened to several podcasts where his blocking was an issue. I guess we will see. Hope he is better than these people say.
this is what excites me.
He did produce 16 “explosives” (plays of 15 yards or more), a top-10 mark. But those typically come in the Cowboys; play-action boot game, with a high-low concept and Schultz serving as the underneath target. That has been one of the most reliable designs in this offense, and Schultz has shown the ability to lose his man or find a spot in the zone, make the catch, and get upfield. He moves the chains.![]()
