If Showtime has a good season, it would behove the Texans to give him a new deal in '06. Buchanon is due to be a UFA in '07.

Consisdering that he is playing for "peanuts," in terms of what other CBs make. He has also put up good numbers for a few years and is in the elite class for returners, so if he has a good year he will go for a bigger contract.

Before the Texans made the trade, they had talks with Drew to make sure he wasn't going to hold out with the promise the Texans would redue Phil's contract next summer.

That was according to C.C. a couple of weeks ago on 610 am.

I think it's a non-issue for the most part. I've watched the Oilers and Texans both deal with tough Agents over the years just like the rest of the NFL. Bruce Matthews had the notorious "Hold em out Howard" Slusher. Bruce held out for a bit but he turned out ok.

Rosenhaus, isn't the shark everyone makes him out to be...he is just doing his job and that is to get the best deal for his players. Yes, I think it is wrong for a player not to honor a contract but I also think it is wrong for the teams that don't honor there end of it either. We just don't hear about the teams that don't honor there contract as much as we hear about the T.O.'s and Walkers. The player has every right to negotiate new contracts but to sit out is wrong in my book because you were happy when you inked the deal and recieved that bonus but now that you made it big or had a great season you want to sit out until you get a better deal. That is just wrong in my bookl? Sitting out is wrong and shows a lack of class to me. Anyway, that is enough of my ranting....I do hope that the Steelers do the classy thing and ink Ward a new deal. He has earned it and he doesn't take it to the press or anything. 4 year pro bowler, best blocking reciever in the game, and class act in the community!!! Okay, okay, okay, I am done!

My problem is not necessarily with players using a hold-out to demand more money. If they really deserve it, that is their counter to the NFL teams just cutting them when they underperform. What I have an issue with is the fact that they never seem to factor in things like signing bonuses and guaranteed money. Javon Walker, for instance, has made a big deal about playing for $550K this year. Well Javon, you already got a very large signing bonus when you signed the contract. So ... what? You just got that money for showing up? That doesn't count toward future performance? It's a lot more than $550K when you prorate out the pay, especially given the fact that you darn sure didn't perform to the level of expectations that a multimillion dollar deal would rate in your first couple years. Same goes for TO -- he likes to spout how he's playing for $3M this year -- no he's not. He's playing for ~$14M over 2 years, which puts him in the upper echelon of pay as far as WR are concerned.

And I truly hate it when they say crap like they are just trying to feed their family. God, that chaps my a**.

Consider the fact that Rosenhaus inherited T.O.'s contract and doesn't stand to get a cent unless Terrel gets a new one, and you see where Drew's motivation may lie... He has no part of T.O.'s current contract...
