Texans pursuing Jerome Pathon

dhaNim

Noob
According to Len Pasquarelli on ESPN Insider the Texans are pursuing WR Jerome Pathon.

The Texans are interested in signing Pathon. Pathon, who worked out for Houston coaches and team officials on Thursday, played sparingly for the Falcons last season, catching only one pass in eight games.

Has to be. Don't see getting another WR in FA if we sign Moulds.

I really hope we dont sign him...Hes decent and all but we really need to focus on getting moulds and then building through the draft while still being able to save some cap space.

This makes no sense at all. The only reason I would think this would be is if there was any hint of doubt that moulds may fall through. AND NO, before you ask, Pathon is not better than Moulds, but maybe they are looking for a backup plan to add more experience WR as depth for a need now mentality, versus using on rookies to bring them up slowly.

This tells me they want the WR this year to be done through FA and use the Draft to get Offensive Lineman and other positions to add depth and get a couple starters in the draft.

It's probably just a ploy to get Buffalo thinking that the Texans might be willing to walk away from the Moulds deal and sign someone else. Sort of push them into taking the 5th rounder. Didn't Philly only offer a 6th? I'm kind of surprised that no other teams have really shown much interest in Moulds. I can't see where Buffalo has any leverage against us.

this may me just incase we lose armstrong. it cant be a backup to the moulds deal. i dont think you can consider pathon a #2 receiver. if we got him, it would probably be for the vet minimum. should have nothing to do with the moulds deal.
he worked out for us yesterday. by then i think our FO was pretty sure they were getting moulds. The moulds deal is essentially done. the only reason its not going to be until monday is because the bulk of our regime has gone to california for USC's proday. They will be back on monday.

What's the date on the story?
also, is there a link? I suppose not since it's an insider story.

I guess not! Pathon was with the Colts 4 years, Saints 3 years (Never a good thing) and the Falcons last year. Moulds worst receiving stats are still better by far than Pathon's. Unless Kubiak sees something the stats aren't saying - something is not quite right.

You could be correct in that we are looking for some depth at WR and Pathon is a warm body one can get relatively cheaply.

Probably a backup plan for Moulds or Armstrong.

I'd like to see them looking at FA linemen and DBs, if there's still cap room.

The date is todays. i pretty much posted exactly what the report said. i gave you the source as well. i can give you the link but you would have to sign in to see it.

if you goto espn insider's rumor central there may be a chance where you can see pathon and the Texans under interested without signing in, but it wont give you the article.

Pathon isn't a starting caliber player so he isn't a backup plan to Moulds. What Pathon is, is a veteran WR who can make plays and understands the NFL. Decent quality depth is one thing we really have never had since we are just now busting out of being an 'expansion' team. Mathis is a LONG way from being a reliable WR imo.

I wonder if that would put Mathis as their exclusive KR PR specialist because he is so fast. Because you would figure

#1 AJ
#2 Moulds
#3 Walter
#4 Pathon
#5/KR PR Mathis

There making all these moves to allow them to go after DBs and OL in the draft. They notice the decent depth and potential at OL and DB and want to use their good picks on them and not use high picks on so-so WR.

I might actually put Pathon ahead of Walter right now, atleast until we see some production from him.

Your right......

Not even close. he is a better WR than Pathon, hands down. The reason Pathon has kept moving team to team is because he is not even making the 4/5 WR spots at the end of his contracts. That is not improving from year to year. That is what Kevin has done.

Texans did not pay Kevin the money they did to be where youa re suggesting him to be. They will place him in at #3 and let him prove he is worthy of being the #2 (and no I did not say he is better than Moulds, so don't even post it).

I think Pathon would be just a depth move because of injury's so they aren't stuck with no one playing if someone gets injured. He would probably just be like a #4 or #5 option to push Mathis probably I would think.

Guys, i read somewhere early in the week some WRs and OLM were going to workout for the Texans on Thursday. That was way before this Moulds deal really got hot. From what I hear, they like Pathon from that group and it would be a cheap contract in case Armstrong left, but this has nothing to do with Moulds one way or other. If Pathon is cheap, he would jump into WR competition and wouldn't be bad to have if Armstrong leaves.

pathon might actually just be brought in for competition not as a back-up plan just so kubiak has more options at the receiver position during training camp

Mathis is not going to start and he has a LONG way to go before he is a legit NFL WR (even in the slot). Pathon has 62 starts with 260 catches for 3350 yards and a 12.9 ypc. He is quality depth at WR as opposed to Mathis who has shown bad hands and is still considered very raw when it comes to playing the WR in the NFL.

I kinda like this idea. If we draft Bush, I would hate to see him lining up as a punt or kick returner. I want him to be fresh out of the backfield, lining up in the slot, ow wherever Kubiack sees fit to play him. By making Mathis a permannt KR/PR it only helps us keep Bush fresh, which is important in a first round pick.

damn first thing I thought when I saw this thread is "Armstrongs gone". Oh well at least he is experienced and should come relatively cheap if they choose to pursue him.

well the reason why moulds worst stats are better than pathons best is well when he was a saint, he played behind horn and stallworth. moulds has been a #1 reciever longer than pathon

Pathon was in NO before Stallworth. Stallworth was drafted because pathon always gets hurt and never has produced at the level many thought he would.

and he only joined the Falcons after he was cut by the Seahawks during training camp.

Moulds...Done deal in a few days, but what about this story.

Texans pursuing Jerome Pathon
<Mar. 31> The Texans are interested in signing Pathon, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports. Pathon, who worked out for Houston coaches and team officials on Thursday, played sparingly for the Falcons last season, catching only one pass in eight games.

One word: Why??

WR Depth as Amrstrong may be gone to NE as they are talking as well. The moulds deal would solidify this
#1 AJ
#2 Moulds
#3 Walter
#4 Pathon
#5/PR/KR Mathis
What do they all have in common??? They all have NFL experience which is what Carr needs along with an OLine to protect him for 2.5-3 seconds

Pathon did decent in New Orleans if I remember correctly a few years ago...

I don't think he will be a bad addition, and I wouldn't mind having him. If he's not good enough to make the team, we cut him. Otherwise we have another decent reciever on our team and there's nothing wrong with a little competition.
