Texans' mock with two trades

badboy

Hall of Fame
Texans trade top 5 pick to Cleveland allowing Browns to get their QB and WR with #5 and their own #12. Houston gets #25 + #44 (2nd) + #73 & 79 in third.

Texans trade #37 (2nd) to San Francisco for #57 & 62 (2nd) + #89 (3rd). SF now has #20 (2st) + #37 (2nd) + #73 (3rd).

#25 1. OT Antonio Richardson

#44 2a DE Kony Ealy battles Mitchell for A. Smith spot (Mitchell's back)

#57 2b OG Gabe Jackson pushes Quess to back up or to RT

#62 2c QB AJ McCarron will do well behind revamped line and pushes Case

#69 3a ILB Shayne Skov or 2nd choice Yawin Smallwood.

#73 3b OLB (DE) Michael Sam

#79 3c NT Ryan Carrethers

#89 3d CB/S Dion Bailey

#111 4 ILB Andrew Jackson

#143 5a OT JuWuan James keeps falling, I cannot see why: Tenn no wins?

5b (comp) S Marqueston Huff

Round 6 RB George Atkinson III yeah his son.
Round 7 CB Phillip Gaines

If eveything worked out like this the Texans would be a threat to make the AFC championship game if not the SB. Great vision.

Do you think Atkinson is coming out? If so that's a great pick.

Thanks! Here is some personal info on Atkinson you might enjoy. Man who can tell about ND players? I would have bet money on Nix coming out last year especially when his mother seemed to indicate he would. I posted that link in another thread mocking Irish Chocolate.

GA has not declared yet and will only be 21 at draft. His birthday is today Nov 22 2013.
Here is what I am hoping that he wants to quit being part of a stable of running backs and become the go to guy. He had to play behind Cierre Wood and Riddick last year. If he is gonna be a back up next season why not earn some money and start getting the NFL into his system? http://www.uhnd.com/articles/football/13-george-atkinson/

I think some positions like QB and CB should remain in school for maturity and learning but RB need to get to NFL quickly. He is averaging only 8 carries per game imo due to Coach Kelly spreading ball among the backs as he did last season. This could frustrate him into declaring. I don't see how one more year will benefit his ranking.

Not that interested on using a first rounder to play RT, rather get the best offensive guard or defensive player possible instead if we aren't using it on a QB. But other then that I like the premise and think that should be the Texans' mind set as well, trading their top draft pick to get more selections in the first 3 rounds.

Appreciate comments. Most would identify RT a greater need than OG but notice I do draft a guard in second round. BTW Gabe Jackson had another very good game against Arkansas that just ended. I would think Ealy and Jackson in second would meet your needs. Are you familiar with them? Ealy is 6'5" 275 with about 6 sacks last time I looked. Missouri is playing now and Arizona is upsetting 21 -3.

i like the 1st rd pick. cant say i know much about the others besides mccarron.
I have watched these guys at least one season and some for much longer. Ealy is a beast who I mocked early season as a 5th IIRC and he just keeps impressing and climbing boards. I like Antonio Smith but his cap hit of $9 million needs to go as this is his last contract year & he turned 32 Oct 21st. Could he be back with a lesser deal? I don't think so as we have nothing to show we will make it to SB in next 2 years so why would he not go elsewhere for much mor emoney and a chance to win it all?

Ealy as of today has 5 passes broken up, 7 QB hurries one forced fumble, 6.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. If interested Missouri plays Auburn (upset #1 Alabama last Saturday) December 7th. If you watch I suggest you also focus on Ealy's teammate DE Michael Sam who should convert o OLB in 3-4. He has 10.5 sacks and 18 TFL.

Skov is a hard charging, punishing tackler that can cover some. I was very high on him early last season but got word he was loafing. A Stanford fan informed me he was injured and eventually he went out. He has roared back this season with 90 tackles and 4.5 sacks. He is rated by ESPN as #1 ILB (Mosely listed as OLB although he plays all over).

I like the idea of trading down but not that far. we need a bonafide stud in the 1st round.

Not a fan.

Dont like trading out of the top 5 all the way to 25 to pick up a RT and a bunch of meh picks.
And then I dont like the players chosen.

We need a db or two early in this draft. Qb, Pass rushers, db's ....thats what id be looking at early in this draft.

I just dont agree with everyone wanting to grab Rts and ilbs early in this draft.

As Texans appear to have locked up #1 pick, there has been board talk about Cleveland offering their own # 8 in addition to # 25 and the thirds. Also, Texian IIRC posted Washington paying two first in the current draft a second round and their first for the following draft for RG3. Bridgewater may not be same but since Brown missed on RG3 and QB list dwindles as kids return to college, our #1 may look enticing especially with Jags waiting.

Not in favor of trading top pick (franchise QB) but would be in favor of trading up a few picks in the first round if a stud OT falls close enough. Need to knock out priority with BPA instead of quantity.

As always your imagination & creativity a wonder to read. Really fine work identifying players/positions.

From Jan 20th:

"The Cleveland Browns’ reported interest in Johnny Manziel has increased.

According to CBS’s Jason La Canfora, the Browns are willing to trade up to select the Texas A&M quarterback.

The Browns have two first-round picks in May’s draft: the No. 4 overall selection and No. 26, which they acquired in a September trade with the Indianapolis Colts for running back Trent Richardson.

The Texans, St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars pick ahead of the Browns. In order to move up, Cleveland would likely have to trade both first-round picks or package the No. 4 overall pick with several second and third-day selections.

The Texans could be a willing trade partner for the Browns. Earlier this month, owner Bob McNair said the team might trade the No. 1 overall pick for more draft choices.

Jason La Canfora is not a good source of information.

The only problem with this is that Cleveland could trade with the Rams instead of the Texans. The Rams are probably going to be drafting OL and can afford to move down without effecting the quality of their selection.

The question then becomes can we interest a team like Oakland to jump ahead of Cleveland for the rights to Manziel. Of course Oakland stay put and go with Sammie Watkins or may go with local boy Derek Carr.

The scuttlebutt around the league is that Manziel is gaining in estimation and may be about to jump to the front of the QB class.

Or another possibility is that Clowney nails it at the combine and we have a team like Atlanta willing to jump ahead of the Jags to take him. The Jags need a QB, but not necessarily at 1-3. Their primary need seems to be DE.

The way I see it, these three teams - Cleveland, Oakland, Atlanta - represent the most likely trade partners.
