Texans interested in Louvier 6-5 295 OL

KFLL story says is free of cancer

NFL | Louvier Cancer Free and Looking For an NFL Chance
Sat, 2 Jul 2005 22:46:59 -0700

Jason Barfield, of the Huntsville Item, reports rookie free agent OL Chris Louvier (Sam Houston State) has been diagnosed as cancer free. In February, doctors found a germinoma tumor on Louvier's brain. In mid-April, he began radiation treatment which ran until the end of May. Now that the cancer is gone, Louvier he can start working toward his dream of playing pro football again, but it is still going to take a lot of work. He faces five months of rehabbing. Before news of his condition was wide-spread, the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns expressed interest in the 6-5, 295-pound lineman. Even during his treatment process, both teams stayed in touch with him.

why must the Texans always look at the "project" offensive linemen. I understand that every rookie is a project, but at least when you pick and AJ or Carr in the 1st round you expect them to come in and contribute instead of well maybe in a couple of years. I think what we need is a 1st/2nd round lineman capable of wreaking havok within his first 3 years.

IMO it's just to get extra depth for the line. Also someone you can try out and maybe get on the cheap who could turn out big later. That is of course the whole ideal when taking on a "project " player

Every team looks at project players. Every now and then one of these projects will actually make the team and contribute. It is a good policy to leave no stone unturned. Also, it is always good to keep good relations with college coaches. If a college coach says that a kid should get looked at, the NFL team will send someone to look at a kid. Doing that will insure that the coach will continue to give you info on kids in his program. Maybe someday that coach at a small college like Sam Houston might end up at a major college like UT or A$M and he can give you an insider's opinion of NFL prospects.

Yep, look around the league and every single team has their own group of projects they are looking at. We are no different.

what happened to to their committment to the OL that they had from the supplemental draft in the expansion year? Once they knew Boselli was done, why didn't they go after some other dominator?

We had 4 new starters last year. Do that again and you just have the Cleveland Browns. Dominating linemen don't grow on trees.

keep in mind that the kid also has the ideal size to be a guard in the zone blocking scheme...if he's quick enough he has the size to be a darn good pulling guard...something i don't think we have...could be a nice practice squad kid who eventually challenges for weigerts spot when he retires or is released
