Texans, Colts, and Patriots get blasted!

Does anyone get that? We can all relax and breathe a bit! The Colts and Patriots both got it handed to them, just as the Texans did. Although, with us being the diehard, Arm-chair QB Fans we are, it looked terrible, it is preseason! I believe Dom will do everything in his power to get this team more motivated for the next preseason game, as this will be the last preseason tune-up for the regular season, just as Dungy and Belichick. The starters usually play one series on the final preseason game to avoid injury for the fourth and final game, so friday will be crucial to confidence and 2004-2005 development! We will see a better team in Denver, you can count on that! :headbang:
 
There is no way he showed what we would do against a 3-4 defense, with San Diego coming into Houston the first game of the season. It is to our benefit to win that game and try to start off 2-0, rather than lose a very win-able game against the Chargers! :headbang:
 
I don't think Dom Capers showed much offensively or defensively much yesterday. Could it be that he doesn't want to give San Diego much to look at? I don't know, but it could be a possiblity. Seemed like we ran the same running plays yesterday without any results. In the passing game we once again didn't do anything spectacular, Billy Miller, Mark Bruener, and Cory Bradford didn't catch any balls I think. I think Capers is trying to keep it simple this preseason, he may not want guys like Jason Babin, Dunta Robinson to be overwhelmed. Just my opinion..
 
Capers is handling this preseason like he has the previous two.

The Texans are showing nothing.

Wait until the regular season to criticize anything the Texans do.

Thats how most coaches handle the preseason. I believe when we beat the Cowboys Parcells was quoted as saying that we used 3 plays all night. I wouldn't expect it to be any different against the Steelers. When the regular season starts then the playbook opens up on offense and defense.
 
So we should all feel better and hold our criticisms because "we didn't show anything." BS.

Preseason or no preseason, that was a pathetic effort by the Texans last night from an execution and emotional standpoint. Even with a base system, they should have performed much better. It's totally within reason to criticize that "effort" because it's never all right to get your a$s kicked by 35. Luckily they have a couple weeks to get their heads on straight.

If it wasn't such a big deal, why then was Capers as angry as anyone has ever seen him and why was the Texans locker room closed for longer than normal after the game? He wasn't handing out game balls, that's for sure.
 
Hey aj, I agree with you on the effort. No doubt about it they were as flat as I've seen them play since the Bengals game in 2002. That was a completely lackluster effort and you wouldn't have known that anyone was fighting for a job from that performance. And I agree that this lack of effort was the reason Capers blew on them. They deserved it.

Now if they had lost 28-10, 21-7, or even 24-17 I'd have no problem with that. Honestly I don't really care about them losing a preseason game. It's unimportant. It's how they played in that loss that I have a problem with. I think that's the same with most of us.

As a fan, I really don't place much importance on preseason games. I watch them because I love football and like to see the new players, but I don't get high or low based on the results. I have faith in this coaching staff to get the team prepared for the regular season, which is when the games start to count.

If I were a coach on the Texans, I would be extremely upset about the lack of effort or intensity and would spend the next week tearing a new hole into every player. I would especially light into veterans who played poorly like Jamie Sharper, Jay Foreman, Steve McKinney, Todd Wade and let everyone on the team know there is no room on this team for players who don't give everything they have. The coaches have been preaching the need for consistency and that starts in the preseason.

I realize the Texans have issues that need to be corrected and that this is the place to talk about those issues. I also have faith in the coaching staff and players to correct most of those mistakes. However, some people are failing to see the big picture and are making mountains out of antbeds.

The same thing seems to keep happening. The Texans win a game and the next they come in as if they're the '03 Patriots or something...as if they're the top dogs and the opposing team needs to try 10X more than they could to win. The Texans need to be hungry all season as they are entering the season and coming off of losses. They gave a lot of heart last season without significant players and I expect them to do no less this coming season with their players back.

Consistency in their effort is what needs to happen here. Last week's game and this Saturday's was completely like night and day. They need to go into every game as if it's the very first game of the season and the last........every single game!!

I disagree with that last part. Yes they need to be more consistent, but the Texans have never had a problem with effort during a regular season game. And no matter how much fans want them to treat preseason games the same as regular season games, there will not be the same level of intensity during the preseason.

They had it on the Dallas game. They've had it on the two season openers of the franchise's history.....they need to have that hunger every single game. I'm not saying they don't have it every single week but I'm certain that they do get a little comfortable and confident after a win which in turn hurts them for the following game.

If you look at the Patriots, they win the game and put it behind them. That's their focus this year....yeah they won this past Super Bowl but it's just that....the past Super Bowl. They're even Steven with all the other teams right now and they have something to prove yet again.

Take another look at what I said. I am talking about the difference between regular season and preseason. They have never had a problem with effort in any regular season game. They have had consistenty problems galore, but they have never played without fire and passion in the regular season, except for maybe the Cincinnati game their first year.

The preseason is not a time when veteran players are going to play with a lot of passion. They are just looking to make it through the exhibition games to prepare for the regular season without getting hurt.
 
And when did I make a difference between pre-season and regular? I said every game. I'm sorry but it's not just our 1st stringers that are the "Texans". I'm speaking of the entire team here. Maybe you forgot about last years game vs. Chiefs. I'm just saying that they need to go into every game, pre-season or regular, with the same hunger and fire as their first.

If it's their second pre-season game (like this past game with Steelers), play it as if it's your pre-season opening game like the Dallas game!

If it's week 8, play it as if it's the season opener...with the same intensity, with the same determination, as if you have something to prove is what I'm saying. They did play like that at the closing of last season, I won't deny that. They just need to remember those nailbiting losses like they did in the Dallas game in every game....like they will vs. San Diego, week in-week out.
 
This is a tough league. Every team gets hammered at one time or another for different reasons. It was ugly but we aren't immune to getting blown-out.

And I said that veteran players are not going to have the same level of intensity in the preseason that they do in the regular season. And I never mentioned anything about first stringers. Most backups on this and every team are veterans. They know what they need to work on to get ready for the regular season, and they are doing it.

A sixteen game season is a long time for a football player. It is unrealistic to expect them to get as intense for a preseason game as they do a regular season game, especially the first two preseason games when they are doing two-a-days the week of the game and not spending any prep time for that week's opponent.

If you want hunger and fire during the preseason, go roast some hot dogs or watch the guys who are playing during the fourth quarter for a roster spot.
 
You can take this how you want, but on the NFL Huddle yesterday on SR610, Clayton and Sailsbury talked about why there are a lot of blowouts in week 2's of preseason. Clayton said that the players really arent into the game because most of them are about to break camp (like the Texans do today) and getting out of camp is what is on the front of mind, not the game...
 
I just think it is funny that after the Cowboy's game many posters were ready to give us the Lombardi Trophy by default.

After the Steeler's game so many alarms are going off you would think we were in London in 1942 (looking for a bomb shelter). Can't you guys be a little more even as fans?
 
Point taken. I'm not only talking about pre-season though. I just see that as a drawback for themselves that they get a little cocky after a win (I speak in the teams short history) and then come in the next game looking weak. I hope that changes this year and this weekend's loss just reminded me of the Texans' tendencies. I hope they come into this season and play every game as if it was the season opener and they have to prove the football sports world wrong or that they lost the last game played (even if it was a win). When they play like that....man, they play fantastic!!
