Texans 2019 NFL Season

OptimisticTexan

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
Well rosters have been established for this coming Thursday's NFL Kickoff. Texans have taken an expensive route to building their roster and must make some moves to ensure these moves weren't for naught.

1. Tunsil must be given a new contract that locks him up for the next 5-7 years.

2. Take care of Watson now versus later.....hopefully hard lessons have been learned.

3. After the dust has settled and I'm not nearly as shocked, I wanted to take a look at the teams next two drafts:

2020: (6- Picks)
RD1- Sent to Miami (For Tunsil / Stills)
RD2- HOU
RD3- HOU via Seattle (Clowney)
RD3- Sent to Cleveland (For Johnson- On Active Roster for 10 games)
RD4- HOU via Miami (Tunsil / Stills)
RD4- HOU
RD5- HOU
RD6- Sent to NE (For Crossen)
RD7- HOU

2021: (6- Picks)
RD1- Sent to Miami (For Tunsil / Stills)
RD2- Sent to Miami (For Tunsil / Stills)
RD3- HOU
RD4- HOU
RD5- HOU
RD6- HOU via Miami (Tunsil / Stills)
RD6- HOU
RD7- HOU

A savvy GM could work with these drafts if his core is signed, sealed and delivered for the next few years. I still think Gaine did an outstanding job with his first short-handed draft. This is also workable if the prior 2 seasons were successful endevours.

4. How does the OL workout now that the team has a sound young LT and removed dead weight in Davenport and Rankins? I think the Texans will go with veterans over rookies to start but I like the rookies in the second half of the season which shuffles the OL to what the future may hold for a while.

Early 2019 OL:
LT- Tunsil
LG- Kelemete
OC- Martin
RG- Fulton
RT- Henderson

ST- Kalil
ST- Johnson
T/G- Howard
G/T- Scharping
G/C- Mancz

Mid 2019 OL:
LT- Tunsil
LG- Howard
OC- Fulton
RG- Scharping
RT- Henderson

ST- Johnson
G- Kelemete
G/C- Mancz
C/G- Martin

**Kalil either released or traded before deadline**

I'd really like to see if Johnson could take on the RT roll later or in the 2020 season. This could become a strength for this offense in the long run.

5. With the addition of Stills.....the Texans WR group could easily be the best in the NFL. If everyone stays healthy, the Texans offense could be lethal if OB spreads his offense and gives Watson a moving pocket to take advantage of this group. Toss the TE's in with this group and OB has all the chess pieces needed to create a special offensive juggernaut. He could create mismatches anywhere on the field.

6. OB must shorten his playbook routes in order to make his OL special.

7. The RB's will keep defenses honest and could hit for good yards on the ground if the aerial game can keep defenses on their heels.....should loosen up the second tier. Johnson and Hyde will both factor into the passing game. Having a FB back in the fold for short yardage situations will prove to be a good move this season.

This covers the offense. I like the defense and wanted a Mingo when he was leaving the Browns. I think RC will find a way to get Mingo into this defense. If OB's offense delivers, the defense could find themselves protecting the lead more often than not this season.....or at least that's my hope.
