Texan4Ever's Texans Mock Draft

Texan4Ever

All Pro
I can't wait untill the official NFL Draft so I went ahead and posted my mock for the Houston Texans.

1.) Earl Thomas, S

We need someone who can cover as a safety next to Bernard Pollard so Earl Thomas makes all the sense in the world. He is a ball hawk who runs a 4.45 forty time and recorded 8 INTs and 77 tackles last season.

2.) Maurkice Pouncey, C

Who doesn't want a 6'5" 310-lbs center protecting there quarterback? After watching Myers get bit&h slapped by Kris Jenkins I think its time for an upgrade here.

3.) Kyle Wilson, CB

Good team leader that has good speed and can also return kicks. Not afraid to hit and wraps up when he hits instead of going for the knockout blow.

4.) Mitch Petrus, OG

Fills a need as a guard, don't know if he will be there in the 4th round.

5.) Anthony Dixon, RB

Good strong runningback for goal line situations, not elusive but can pound the rock up the middle.

6.) Zoltan Mesko, P

Excellent punter who should give Matt Turk some competition during practice and might even start over him.

6.) Kade Weston, DT

We need a big DT to line up next to Amobi Okoye and take on blockers. Weston can also get to the QB and provide a decent pass rush.

7.) Aaron Pettrey, K

Good solid kicker who has performed well during games but needs more coaching and should provided competition against Kris Brown.

2.) Zane Beadles, OT/OG

We need to upgrade the interior offensive line and Beadles would be the perfect option for the Texans. Playing for Utah, he is a powerful yet nimble linemen who can play either guard or tackle.

4.) Donovan Warren, CB

Hails from Michigan which has produced CBs like Charles Woodson and Leon Hall. Should have stayed at school for one more year, but with coaching and time I think he will showcase his talent well. Hits hard as hell so thats always a plus.

5.) Kade Weston, DT

Weston is a 325-lbs beast who can get after the quarterback and disrupt the passing game. He can clog up the middle and allow Amobi Okoye to shoot the gaps.

6.) Ryan Matthews, RB

This may be a bit low for Matthews but he had only one solid season as a running back and I am hoping his draft stock slips so we can grab him. He is quick but he has the bulk needed in order to be an effective power back.

Good work but I cant imagine Mathews lasting past the early third round.

I agree but I'm hoping that on draft day his stock will slip because he only had one really productive season while the other two were solid but not with 1,000+ yards rushing.

Thanks for taking a look at the mock mussop!

Would like to see many if not all these players get drafted by Texans but its not realistic.

Thomas will be gone.

Zane is a 4th rd. tackle so we're going to switch positions & move him up two rounds?

Pouncey is a solid 2nd rd. pick & probably the top Center prospect in draft, maybe switch the two & three.

Warren is probably late first round.

Like going DT late mid round but Weston is not even graded as being drafted maybe @ the stroke of midnight when teams can contact undrafted free agents?

I had Ryan Mathews going end of 1st early 2nd. closest thing in this draft to a complete back.

Love addressing kicking game late :ant:

The players I have might move around the draft boards and I may be off by a few rounds but like you said, if we could grab the players in my mock that would be a nice haul.

With regards to Zane Beadles, he is a quiet draft option as of now but I suspect he may go in the 2nd because he plays left tackle, but as far as a Texans pick goes I feel that he has the talent needed in order to play guard regradless of what blocking system we run.

Thanks for your input...

I agree with Beerlover, this mock isn't even close to realistic.

1. Earl Thomas, good player, good pick.
2. Zane Beadles, this is way to early for a guy who's a 3rd or 4th round pick not to mention changing his position.
3. Maurkice Pouncey, is the top C in the draft and will most likely go in the 2nd round.
4. Donovan Warren, is most likely a 1st round pick, very early 2nd at worst.
5. Kade Weston, this one is realistic and a good choice.
6. Ryan Mathews, is a 2nd or 3rd round pick at worst, no way he's available here.
6. Zoltan Mesko, good choice here, fills a need.
7. Aaron Pettrey, I'm not familiar with this guy but it's a good choice this late.

What source of info. are you using for your mock? What site(s)?

I'm not using a website or anything, I'm basing this off of what Iv'e seen. I have watched all of these players and I may be off by where they go in the draft but these are the guys I would want.

I have to agree with others. Its a good look, I would be ecstatic if the Texans could land these guys. But its simply not possible.

I advise using a website (or two or three even) to get a base idea of everything, and then use your own judgments to edit those rankings.

Suh has more of a chance to fall to the Texans at 20 than Warren does of falling to the Texans in the 4th rd or Mathews in the 6th rd.

I like the players you chose though.

I updated the mock and took everyones advice, not sure if I got the rounds correct in terms of if the player will be there but overall I would be happy with this group of draft choices.

Very good and realistic. I would be very happy with this draft.

Taking the players I have drafted in my mock and putting them into the starting lineup, here is how everything would look on offense at least:

OT: Duane Brown
OG: Mitch Petrus
OC: Maurkice Pouncey
OG: Antoine Caldwell
OT: Eric Winston

TE: Owen Daniels
WR: Andre Johnson
WR: Kevin Walter

QB: Matt Schaub
RB: Steve Slaton/Arian Foster/Anthony Dixon
FB: Vonta Leach

I think Petrus has a lot of potential .

I agree with you, Mitch Petrus should be a solid player for us and I expect him to contribute to our running attack by opening up holes and getting to the second level.

He's not scared to cut block .

Arkansas guard Mitch Petrus executed a cut block on linebacker Dont'a Hightower, causing a season-ending knee injury to the sophomore and costing UA one of the most talented players in its starting defense.

This Mock is very realistic. I like it.

If Petrus is willing to take out one of his own teammates. He shouldn't have a problem taking out anther teams players.

He's very athletic. Love this pick.

I really like your updated mock, much more realistic, though I have doubts that Petrus lasts til the 4th and highly doubt that Dixon lasts til the 5th. Overall much better.

I like this mock as much as I like my fantasy girl friend. If I ever get either one, I'll be a very happy boy. Sort of wishing more for the girlfriend, if you know what I mean?

1.) Earl Thomas, S
2.) Maurkice Pouncey, C
3.) Kyle Wilson, CB
4.) Mitch Petrus, OG
5.) Anthony Dixon, RB
6.) Zoltan Mesko, P[/B]
6.) Kade Weston, DT
7.) Aaron Pettrey, K
That's a really great looking mock! You just completely filled two areas of weakness and made them strengths. Secondary and OL are basically finished with starters AND depth. QB,TE,FB,WR,LB are pretty much already set (assuming Walter is re-signed). That leaves...

RB and DT are the other two positions that I think need to be addressed. Dixon should be a great to add to the mix. I'd still like to see us bring in a FA to compete for a spots. Same goes for DT, adding a veteran would be great and good job getting a guy late in the draft to try and groom.

P/K - If they can't beat out Turk and Brown, I'd hope we would be able to keep them on the practice squad for next season.
