Tannehill

Over at PFT they are speculating that Tannehill could fall into the 20's.

Would you take him? Would you trade up to 20 to take him?

After thinking about it I whink I would. With Schaub's injury situation.

I think Tannehill is a pit fall, but that's just me. The guy only has one full year at QB and from the games I've seen; he thinks his arm can overcome anything and can make bad decisions. I wouldn't touch the guy in the first.

He also seems to be at the right place, right time and this is why his stock is blowing up. The rules of the league right now make passing offenses more desirable and a QB to run them is essential to success. There's several team right now who are desperate for a franchise QB namely the Browns and Dolphins.

Two guys that seem to be under the radar that I think we'll give a look later the in draft are Nick Foles and Ryan Lindley. They're much more experienced, have good measurables, and I think are much more in line with Kubiak looks for.

I would say no. He could get better and evidently other teams are considering him much higher
but watching him play did not show me much. Seattle has allegedly said they would draft him but I think Miami is where he should do best.

This year, I concentrated mostly on QBs and WRs.
I study their system.
I review each of the pass pattern on each pass attempt to see how many are dump-offs, how many are short routes, how many intermediates, how many are medium deeps, and how many are deep routes.
I look at the pressure they faced (Big 12 and Pac 12 were lacking as compared with the SEC and Big 10).

I pay close attention to the pass attempts they are likely to make at the next level: From tight space where they don't have much room to step up the pocket, from having to slide or move to avoid pressure, and on the roll-out by design... to passes they have to make across their bodies, or into tight window (do they force it, or do they make the throw before the window tighten)...

The guys who impressed me were Wilson, Keenum, and Cousins.
RG III is next (but he didn't face as much pressure as the other 3).

Luck faced very little pressure when compared with those guys.

And like I said in one of the threads, there was one game in which the commentators noted that "Weeden's jersey wasn't even wrinkled, let alone having a grass stain".

I don't think Weeden is going to make it as a starter in the NFL.

Tannehill is a project. He's not accurate even when he wasn't pressured and the receiver was wide open.
He has a gunslinger mentality, throwing into tight window even when he didn't have to (ie. there was open receiver within the line of sight - within the pass pattern).
He knows very little about the defenses that he faced. His pre-snap and post-snap reads were poor.

Right now, he's not even a good thrower.
I remember Gruden once said "he has all the tools, but no tool box".
That was what I saw in Gabbert his last year at Mizzou.

Tannehill has a lot to learn, but he does have a lot of tools.
Can he put it all together or not is the million-dollar question.

No for me. QB & RB not options in 1st-4th rounds. Too many other needs.

Wouldn't be prudent. Stay the course. Eye of the tiger. Yada, yada, yada...

I'm not that familiar with Tannehill. The reports are always referring to his size and his ability to play in a pro-style offense. We need the Aggie posters to tell us more about him.

We have the QB position set. Besides that, I don't think Tannehill falls to the 20's unless something drastic happens with another QB to rocket him up.

Miami is a good situation for Tannehill simply because he can sit and learn for a year or two under his former HC whose known for developing QBs.

I've watched Foles when I scouted Mitchell.
And I've reviewed several of his games this year as well.
IMO, he's a game manager at best.

Lindley is inconsistent (I'm not talking about his completion percentage).
He had more attempts in the intermediate, medium deep and deep routes than quite a few QBs with higher completion percentage.

But neither these two guys can be an upgrade over Yates, IMO.
None of the other QB in this draft class is, except for the top five I mentioned.
Just my opinion, of course.

Hard to tell I agree whether or not either will be much more, just like any QB's skill set can translate to the NFL. You're also right as of right now it doesn't look like either can step in and start right away, though barring injury (like Yates) I don't think they'll have to.

I don't think Yates was rated as being much more or better than either coming out of N.C. FWIW.

I just think both fit the mold of what Kubiak tends to look for in a QB to groom in the late rounds. Multiple year starter, tends to be a team captain or recognized leader, has the ability to digest a playbook, and seems post Schuab more mobile.

What I am really wondering is if Gary and Rick would be satisfied with bringing an another rookie as opposed to an older veteran IF indeed Matt's injury proves to be just as much to the extent many of us here believe it is. I wouldn't be surprised to see Delhomme or Garcia re-upped for vet minimum or another QB brought in.

Bigger question could be could Foles or Lindley slip pass waivers and land on the PS for storage?

I hate to be that guy but....

I know a guy whose brother is with the Dolphins org who says they are NOT drafting Tannehill.

I'll see how good the source is come Thursday...

I hate to say it, but I would not recommend Tannehill.

He made some serious mental mistakes last season. His Jr year was magical and there was a serious let down with his Sr. year.

Having said that, he did not have that much time at the qb position, so maybe with work.

But I don't see that much difference between TJ and Tannehill. We don't need 2 of the same players as backup.

I recently read on a texas a&m board some interesting insight from a former player who posts saying something along the lines of sherman would force the ball to certain players/routes no matter what defense was being shown. they specifically called out the kansas state game where we threw the out route to fuller over and over.

take it for what it's worth, but it does explain his tendency to force things to fuller/swope/EZ that wasn't always there, especially with a better option in the flat/middle.

If Miami doesn't take him, then I see him falling to the 2nd round.
If your former HC doesn't want you, what does that say?

He also had a some critical WR drops during the games they lost and the defense collapsed during the second half games (see Ok St).

Remember that A&M scored no less than 25 points all season, including 38 vs Arkansas, 31 vs Mizzou and 25 vs Oklahoma. It's not like he can't score points vs good defenses.

So all of these NFL insiders have reported that the #Dolphins owner wants Ryan Tannehill: @ProFootballTalk @SI_PeterKing @AdamSchefter.

If Schaub cant stay healthy, then Rick/Gary should think about a RG3 type trade in next yrs draft.

There will be some really good QB's Bray/Barkley/L.Jones and there's always a guy that comes out of nowhere like RG3 did this yr.

Might as well be a done deal. If the owner wants a player they get them. Unless someone trades ahead of #9, he will be a Dolphin. See Vince Young.

Ryan Tannehill’s wife was the hit of Thursday’s NFL draft

Over at ThePostGame, we put together a list of the best and worst dressed from the first round of the 2012 NFL draft. Former Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill, now of the Miami Dolphins, was on the latter list, with an ensemble we said was out of Men's Wearhouse. What we didn't see was that Tannehill's look improved when he had his newlywed wife on his arm.

Below, the No. 8 pick is pictured with his newlywed wife, Lauren Tannehill. As she has many of the qualities admired by the superficial male, Mrs. Tannehill became a trending topic in the hours after the draft.
