T.O. Suspended indefinitely

TO was just suspended by the Eagles for behavior detrimental to the team. He is out indefinitely. I have a feeling this is going to be bad for both sides.
 
Well good for the person that suspended him. I guess that would be Coach Reid. It must be very difficult to deal with people like Terrell...all the talent in the world and a ten cent brain.
 
I can't stand the guy and am glad the Eagles are putting him in his place. He is a great WR but a real cancer to any team on which he belongs. If the Eagles sit him for the rest of the year the way the Bucs did with Johnson, I doubt he's going to improve his lot next year. No GM with a brain is going to give him the contract he thinks he deserves with all his bad behavior. Good riddance to that low-life.

Cris Carter - Another WR that was a cancer for the Eagels. Good thing he turned things around and fulfilled his potenital. Hopefully the lightbulb also goes off for T.O. someday. Imagine how much better he could be.

Most of us learn around 16 or 17 that you don't say everything on your mind even if it is the "truth" or an "honest" opinion. I saw an interview with Lavar Arrington where they asked about not being with Washington and underachieving, etc. and he just avoided/did not answer/ or joked them away. Arrington is not exactly Mr. Maturity himself, but even understood there is a time and place for expressing your true feelings.
 
Michael Irvin was on ESPN and had spoken to Terrell.He said Coach Reid had given him some conditions that he needed to get done and one was to apologize to the team and another to apologize to his teammates.

He said Terrell did so publicly but apparently the coach wanted him to apologize to his teammates privately and Terrell felt he did not need to do so; that a public apology was enough.

Anyway that's Terrell's side of the story via Michael.

They also had a sportswriter on the phone that felt that Terrell would not play with the Eagles anymore. Too much water under the bridge I guess.
 
I just want Terrell Owens to go away at this point. I've been sick of him for a long, long time. I swear if I owned the Eagles I'd just release him and move on.
 
I thought that was what I said but if not yea the coach wanted him to go to the team and apologize personally and he felt a public apology was enough.

One must also realize this is second hand information via Michael but I'm sure he got it right as Terrell perceives it.

I did forget to add that Michael said Terrell STILL wants his contract reworked and there was something about he felt he still could play for the Eagles. Maybe they don't think so and are tired of messing with him. I don't know.
 
I read the interview on ESPN.com. TO is so full of himself it's not even funny. I don't care how great of a player he is, at his age and with his attitude, how in the world is he going to get the big contract he wants next season after all these antics?

At least Keyshawn had a Coach Parcells willing to give him another chance. Mariucci wouldn't touch this guy with a 10 foot pole, especially since the Lions are stocked with talented receivers (and Jeff Garcia :) ).
 
T.O. needs to just shut up and play the damn game. I guess he won't be playing the game for a while now. Just curious. How many Superbowls has he played in and won? I think he's 1 for 2 - correct me if I'm wrong. If that's the case, however, he should just shut up and help the TEAM get another shot at it.
 
I knew TO when he was in highschool and both my wife and my x-wife went to school with him, and trust me he is a jerk. He got into it one night with one of my buddies and evn then he was full of himself always walked with a crowd of people because he couldn't do it himself though.
 
Anyone else think TO an the Eagles are going to part ways? I read about him being upset about the Eagles not celebrating his 100th TD, but didn't he say something to the effect that if Favre was the Eagle's QB they would have a winning record or be undefeated?
 
Yeah he said that in the same interview he went off about the Eagles having no class in celebration of his 100th TD. He's a fantastic, freaky athlete but a DAMN public relations nightmare for any team he steps on the field for. I'm glad we don't have him on our team even as a waterboy, I'm sure he would find something to whine about if he was 1 of those also...
 
I was just watching the FOX pregame show and they said TO and Hugh Douglas got into a physical confrontation in the locker room. What a head case.

Here is the thing, The Iggles have to make a big decision(like 37million) whether to keep or cut TO. If they cut him(which is very liklely) according to ESPN, he would go through the waivers system. For those of you unfamiliar, the waiver system is the exact opposite of the records. Ie right now the Texasns and Packers would get to try to claim him. TO in Green Bay might certainly be very helpful to Favre...
 
As a life long Eagles fan up here in Philly, let me give you guys a take of the feeling toward Owens from up here. Most of the fans I talk to do not want this guy to ever put on an Eagles jersey again. I feel the same way. Yes, the Super Bowl is important for the fan base up here. You get tired of hearing the Eagles are the only team in the NFCE that have not won one. His talent is needed. Here is the but, at least for me. Winning the Super Bowl would also mean guys like Stan Walters and Jerry Sizemore would also be part of it because they are part of the history of the team. If having to have Owens on the Eagles ment a Super Bowl win, I would pass. What I can't understand is this guy owned Philadelphia last year after his courageous performance in the Super Bowl. Owens should have parlayed his popularity into millions of dollars in corprate endorsements. This is the fourth largest television market in the country.The additional money would have dwarfed whatever additional salary he was crying about not getting from the Eagles. For years Dick Vermeil was the spokeman for Blue Cross in the Philadelphia area. Even when he coached the Rams. Owens could have done the same. Instead he took a path where the goodwill is gone alone with millions in revenue for years to come. He is now looking at a one year deal with a team controled option from another team, if he can find someone to take him at all. What a waste.
 
I sometimes think that T.O. probably needs counseling or something..that he's just a very confused person. I've watched him in interviews and he seems like a likeable guy. I don't know how you can correct his "me, me, me" attitude other than punish him in ways that the Eagles are doing.

Shame really. He's a God gifted person. Very few people in the world can do the things he does. If he were more humble or taught to be more humble than I think his problems would be solved. But he has to learn he plays a team game, he's accountable to his teammates and coaches and that it's not all about him. Life has a way of bringing people off their high horse sometimes. I think that' s coming his way if it hasn't already.
 
They didn't get the suspension letter/form into the league in time, so he was put on the inactive. That gets him paid 200K for the game and not play it. They can suspend him for up to 4 games or 800K worth, starting with next weeks game. As $$$$ focused as T.O. seems to be, $800K should get his attention. Then if they send him home after those 4 games for the rest of the season, he still gets paid for them. That's how they explained it on ESPN anyway.
 
He goes where he goes. I see him not here though. Green bay lost Javon Walker at the beg. of the season so I think they will take him which will be good for us because then they will win a few games with Owens and Driver and then we can have 1st round pick!

If they had cut him then we would have had first shot at claiming him off waivers. Then we could put him on the field as a decoy to free up Andre Johnson and get him more catches. We could deal with T.O.'s constant b****ing for a few weeks and then seek a trade for him or something.

Eagles suspended TO for 4 games then are deactivating him for the remainder of the season. TO is not being released so he will not be playing for anyone this year. In the offseason I'm sure the Eagles will try to get whatever they can for the guy.
 
The Eagles should send Owens to the Raiders so he and Moss can play together. It would be hard to have enough balls to throw to the two of them, and LaMont Jordan complained about his carries earlier this year so I wouldn't want to be a RB there, but with Kerry Collins airing it out to Moss, Owens, and Porter, Marino's single-season yards record might not last, that is if the locker room can survive having two cancers in it. It seems each of the last couple years one of these guys has been in the news too much. A couple years ago it was T.O. in San Fran, then it was Moss last year in Minn. as T.O. was relatively quiet, and now Moss is being quiet and it's back to T.O. again.
 
The 4 game suspention puts the max financial hurt on TO that the Eagles could. He will lose 800K for those 4 games. However, the rest of the year....he gets paid. If they waive him after the 4 games AND someone picks him up, they get an accelerated cap hit for this year (they have the room), but they don't pay any salary. Personally I would do the suspend for the 4 games then waive his butt and hope someon picks him up.
 
Nah, do exactly what Gruden did with Keyshawn Johnson a couple of years ago.....you're done for the year, not playing for us, not playing for anyone else either.
 
I know that T.O is a big boy and makes his own bed, but Micheal Irvin started this whole mess with his comments about Favre being better for the Eagles, IMO he should be dismissed from espn as well!
 
I'd take T.O. in Houston on ONE condition....that we get a coach who could deal with him. (Mild-mannered Capers wouldn't do it)

Somebody like Jimmy Johnson could harness that Ego and make it work. Anybody remember how many Prima Donnas they had in Dallas' heyday? :fishing:

Yea, but the one thing about those Cowboys teams is they were all about winning as a team. They all wanted their money as all people do but they worked well together. I'm sure there were quite a few heated discussions between Aikman, Smith and Irvin but it was never personal. TO has a history of making things personal between he and his QB's, coaching staff, etc.
 
Michael and Emmitt are very good friends and always have been...on and off the field. I've never seen them either at a game or on TV act like anything but just that.

I think Troy kind of kept to himself...he use to get criticized for not being a "vocal" leader but to me the vocal leader of those teams was Irvin.

There was an ex Eagle on ESPN (Freddie Mitchell I think) and he said he had problems with McNabb. I gathered from all he said he was backing T.O. while they had a lady radio personality who was blaming Terrell entirely.

If this same thing had not happened in SF I would wonder if maybe Terrell wasn't being blamed unfairly about some of this. As it is it's become a pattern of his to be a disruptive teammate. Too bad. He'll be playing somewhere else next year and we'll have threads about that then.

Aikman, Irvin and Smith did get along well enough to push each other behind the scenes. I recall one off-season, I believe after the 1st SB win, when they had a competition to see who could come in with the lowest body fat %--they came in low to, something like Irvin at 7%, Emmitt at 9% and Aikman at 12%.
 
Stop talking about Dallas. Anyway tough break for a great WR. Sad when a guy cannot get his mouth out of the way of his production. He will get a good payday from another team and be cool for a year and a half then he will fall by the wayside. I look for him to end up in a place that is desperate. Not likely us or Cleveland.
 
Owens is due an $8 million roster bonus in March. The Eagles aren't going to be able to trade him to anybody because of that (another reason they're not going to keep him).

In the end, they're going to have to cut him. Owens' initial excitement will be squashed when he realizes the next best contract offer he gets will be worse than the one he signed with Philly.

His comments were very unprofessional, even Mike Ditka's jaw dropped when he made them on his show, and said "I will not comment about that" then the next day T.O. makes the same comments about Favre w/Eagles,.. as I said T.O. is a big boy, but Irvin shouldnt be calling him and putting ideas in his head when he knows how T.O's mind ticks, when you see Irvin, watch how he defends T.O. and tries to crawfish his way out of the subject. Irvin is a joke as a "NFL analyst" there is even a question on a T.O. poll "who deserves most of the blame for T.O's current situation"

Terrell is a grown man. You make him sound like he's brainwashed by Michael.

They're friends and I'm guessing Michael is going to stand by his friend. He's entitled to that. I don't agree with what he said, what Terrell did and I think the Eagles did the right thing. But he's entitled to state what he thinks. Why do you think ESPN hired him?

As for Coach Ditka he's been a bit controversial before with his comments if I remember right....and done a few things that made people shake their heads. They hire those type of people because they don't want vanilla reporters but rather people that do exactly that. ESPN is good at stirring the sports pot.
 
How hard is it to keep your mouth shut, and make millions playing a game?

I really dont like TO, and would rather him not play the rest of the year, even if my FF team suffers.

If I were a team that wanted his services, I might sign him to a multiple year contract, but with a small ($1 million?) buyout clause each season and a low initial signing bonus. I'd also have specific code of contact language that would allow my team to terminate the contract at any time if one of the items was violated.

No way anyone would sign him to a bigger deal. I doubt he'll get more than a two-year deal anyways, and even if he did the dollar amount would likely be much lower, maybe include some incentives in there for him so he'd get paid more if he has a certain level of production and goes a year or two without causing problems.
