Good article...I'm curious as to what most people would think the amount of impact a guy like Ware or Merriman would make in 2005, though...Through all of Dom Capers' years of coaching, he has only had one rookie start at OLB (Babin), so the deck is stacked against Merriman and Ware starting over Peek...Would a 1st round OLB merely be insurance in case Peek doesn't pan out as a starter and take over Peek's situational role, or would a rookie OLB start from day one over Peek? I realize that talent has a way of sorting itself out, but I think the 13th overall pick may be too valuable to spend on a situational guy...

Remember that Casserly did say that they don't expect any of their picks to start this year.

Though I'd like to say our pick spent elsewhere, we probably do need another OLB. Assuming Peek works out, we still have no depth there... especially considering Wong is moving inside (where we don't have much depth) and he's a free agent next year, along with Peek (restricted free agent)

The ROLB is so hard to find (top one) I would not hesitate to select another OLB early. Being strong here is much better than being weak in this spot. Let them battle it out. We need to find the best players who fit our scheme. If either Ware or Merriman is deemed elite, passing on an elite player would be foolish considering how tough it has been shown to find quality OLB's in a 3-4.
