Spears pro day

wags

Veteran
Marcus Spears and other LSU players had their pro-day yesterday. Here are the results for Spears:

Spears (6-3 5/8, 304), who did not run on LSU's first pro day because of a knee injury, ran his 40's in 5.10 and 5.10. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.48 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.75. He had a 31-inch vertical jump, but did not do the broad jump because he was still concerned about his knee. He also had 23 bench presses.

hmm im not that impressed... I was thinking it would be better. I still like the castillo kid as a DT prospect.

i wouldn't put too much thought into these workouts...we've seen receivers run 4.7's and end up becoming rookie of the year...we've seen terrell suggs run slow and then have 12.5 sacks his rookie year...if your drafting a guy for how fast he runs the 40 your drafting a player for the wrong reasons...you gotta look at what he did in his college career first and use the work outs as tie breakers in my mind

Thanks for the info wags. I think he faired pretty well coming off a knee injury. Besides he's not going to be a burner like most 4-3 DE you see like Merriman or Ware. He's more of a 3-4 DE, and I'm not worried at all about his atheletic ability. Any guy that big who was a top TE prospect coming into college, and who played TE in the SEC at LSU is one heck of an athelete. :thumbup

his short shuttle is pretty impressive, i think that is more important for a de than a forty time, it didn't want to say it but how many times does a de have to run 40 yards for a sack? maybe a few more reps would have been good (i say him do a few more at the rec one day), but i like his 31 inch vertical, shows he is an athlete.
