Source: Ravens to cut Boldin if he won't take pay cut

Bouldin stated that if he gets cut, he will retire.

From the same article......"During a February interview with NBC Sports Radio, Boldin said he would retire if released by Baltimore. A source, though, said Boldin is having second thoughts about that statement."

Kind of ridiculous that this guy made big play after big play for them during their SB run and their reward for him is to cut him or back him into a corner to restructure.

Looks like Boldin is gone. I look for the Patriots and Broncos to make a strong push for Boldin. The Ratbirds made a terrible decision on letting boldin go. He bailed out Flacco a whole lot. The dude is a beast.

Come on Rick! Make it happen!

Finances: Cut wide receiver Kevin Walter, saving $2.5 million in cap space. Restructure the deal of wide receiver Andre Johnson, reducing his base salary from $10.5 million to $940,000 (giving him the rest now as a bonus), resulting in a salary-cap savings of $7.17 million. Restructure the deal of cornerback Johnathan Joseph, reducing his base salary from $7.5 million to $940,000 (giving him the rest now as a bonus), resulting in a salary-cap savings of $4.373 million. Extend defensive end Antonio Smith, reducing his 2013 base salary of $6 million and his cap charge of $9.5 million significantly.

Wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who played a big role in Baltimore's run to its second Super Bowl title this decade, tells ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Ravens have not asked him to restructure his contract.

Boldin said on Saturday that Baltimore might have to do a restructuring of some sort, but to this point and his knowledge, the Ravens have not.

As for his future, Boldin told Schefter that he would speak with his family before he makes any decisions, but as far as he is concerned and knows, he is planning to play for Baltimore next season under the terms of his current contract.

Boldin is scheduled to earn $6 million in the coming season. He carries a $7.531 million salary-cap figure.

Fox Sports initially reported Saturday that Baltimore gave Boldin an ultimatum: Take a pay cut or get cut on Tuesday. USA Today Sports later reported that Boldin had rejected Baltimore's offer but that the sides were still discussing the matter, and that Boldin is prepared to test free agency if Baltimore releases him.

ESPN and other media outlets have reported that the Ravens do want to reduce Boldin's salary as they try to free cap space to retain free-agent linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.

The Ravens were expected to keep Boldin after the team didn't have to use the franchise tag on quarterback Joe Flacco, who signed a six-year, $120.6 million deal.

In the playoffs, Boldin caught 22 passes for 380 yards receiving (95 yards per game) and four touchdowns. He has led Baltimore in receiving yards in each of the past three seasons since being traded from Arizona.

Boldin, 32, said last month that he would retire if he was cut by the Ravens. Since the Ravens won the Super Bowl, linebacker Ray Lewis and center Matt Birk have retired and Baltimore has released guard Bobbie Williams.

That'd be pretty epic to grab one of their best players, rather than them getting one of ours.

Boldin and AJ, with OD/Graham/Casey/K-Mart would be a nice receiver crew.

Right now, Boldin would be the only free agent WR I would want to put on this struggling offense. Maybe Welker would be an option, too, since he is a great "safety valve" option for a QB. And we know Matt needs one of those every snap.

We'd have to make some massive contract overhauls, though.

If Flacco really wanted him back, he would have offered Baltimore a discount on his contract.

Funny you say that, Kurt Warner offered the Cardinals a 1 million discount if they re-signed Boldin long term. He got traded to Baltimore instead...

Anquan Boldin traded to 49ers for a sixth-round pick

And guess who'd #2 now?

A 6th for Boldin? I find that hard to believe.

And the story is breaking across multiple news outlets. Wow. I'd consider that a slap in the face if I was Boldin.

Brotherly love, man. Dunno what else to say about this trade. It's like they're trading basball cards or something

Man this is BS!

Texans couldn't give up a 6th rounder for him?

No, they couldn't give up 6m in salary for him. The Ravens probably didn't want to help an AFC team out by giving him away on the cheap. They also won't be playing the NFC West next year, so they don't have to see him, unless they meet in the Super Bowl again.

Seems like the Texans would have benefited by cutting Kevin Walter's $5 million and trading, say, a 4th round pick for him. Assuming he's making $8 or so million, then it would be a legit #2 receiver for a net cost of $3 million and a 4th round pick

Let's just say you've come up with some fuzzy math. Are you related in any way to Charley Casserly?
