Some Mock Drafts are Crazy!

MikeMc

Rookie
Take this one for example:

MOCK DRAFT: ROUND 1
PICK TEAM PLAYER POS SCHOOL
1 (1) Texans Matt Leinart QB USC
Barring a blockbuster trade offer or a significant improvement by David Carr, the Texans will cut Carr and draft Leinart to start immediately.

2 (2) 49ers Reggie Bush* RB USC
Enough with the diplomacy. We'll tell you what Bush is dying to tell you but can't until after the Rose Bowl: He'll come out for the NFL draft.

3 (3) Jets D'Brickashaw Ferguson T Va.
Ferguson has long arms, a large frame and great feet. He's a bit lean at 290 pounds but has plenty of room to fill out. The Jets must upgrade at left tackle; Ferguson, a Long Island native, could fit the bill.

4 (4) Saints A.J. Hawk OLB Ohio St.
Hawk has good size with outstanding speed, an exceptional closing burst and great instincts. He would immediately be the Saints' best linebacker.

5 (5) Packers Mathias Kiwanuka DE Boston Coll.
The Packers will be tempted to pick an offensive tackle, but drafting Kiwianuka would put a franchise-caliber, two-way end with pass rush skills opposite Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila.

6 (6) Raiders Chad Greenway OLB Iowa
The Raiders must overhaul their defense. Greenway would bring size, speed, athleticism and attitude to the linebacker corps.

7 (7) Titans DeMeco Ryans OLB Alabama
The Titans have many needs but would be well-served to team Ryans with Keith Bulluck and make the linebackers the anchor of a rebuilding defense.

8 (8) Lions Marcus McNeill T Auburn
The Lions have first-round investments at all the offensive skill positons and must upgrade the line to see any return on those investments. McNeil is a massive tackle who would bring a much-needed physical presence.

9 (9) Bills Eric Winston T Miami (FL)
The Bills must upgrade their offensive line. Winston, a former tight end, is an athletic pass blocker and a physical run blocker.

10 (10) Cardinals Jimmy Williams CB Va. Tech
Williams is the best cornerback in the draft but could slip because of team needs. He would bring talent and swagger to the Cardinals' secondary.

11 (11) Rams Vernon Davis* TE Maryland
Davis, a junior, has declared for the draft. He'll be the top tight end taken because of his athleticism and playmaking ability, and the Rams need to upgrade at the position.

12 (12) Browns Rocky McIntosh OLB Miami (FL)
Outside linebacker is the key position in Romeo Crennel's 3-4 scheme. McIntosh has the athleticism and speed to contribute as a pass rusher and against the run.

13 (13) Ravens Tye Hill CB Clemson
Hill would take over nickel back and learn under Chris McCalister and Samari Rolle.

14 (14) Eagles Sinorice Moss WR Miami (FL)
Moss, whose elite speed and sure hands make up for his height, might convince the Eagles he could be their Santana Moss, his older brother.

15 (15) Dolphins A.J. Nicholson OLB Florida St.
Nicholson would line up next to Channing Crowder to continue the infusion of youth and talent to the aging linebacker corps.

16 (16) Vikings Marcedes Lewis TE UCLA
The Vikiings' offense lacks a two-way tight end who can block and attack the deep middle of the field. Lewis has the size, speed and talent to do both.

17 (17) Falcons Michael Huff S Texas
The Falcons need safety help for run support and protecting the deep pass. Huff had a productive senior season and showed he might be the two-way player the Falcons need.

18 (18) Cowboys Max Jean-Gilles G Georgia
The Cowboys must infuse youth and talent on the offensive line. Jean-Gilles is a massive road grader who excels as a run blocker.

19 (19) Chiefs DeAngelo Williams RB Memphis
With rumors of Priest Holmes' retirement, Kansas City might look to the future and add Williams as insurance.

20 (20) Broncos Derek Hagan WR Arizona St.
(From Washington) Hagan is polished and productive. He doesn't have elite speed but is a good athlete, runs great routes and has good ball skills.

21 (21) Chargers Greg Blue S Georgia
Blue, who could step in as the starting free safety, would upgrade the Chargers' pass defense and complement their strong run defense.

22 (22) Steelers Gabe Watson DT Michigan
Watson has the size and toughness to be a run-stuffing nose tackle in the Steelers' 3-4 scheme.

23 (23) Buccaneers Tamba Hali DE Penn State
Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin loves to bring along young defensive linemen as wave rushers. It would be a perfect role for Hali, who could eventually replace Simeon Rice.

24 (24) Patriots Alan Zemaitis CB Penn State
The Patriots need to improve their talent and depth at cornerback. Zemaitis, a physical corner, also can play safety if needed.

25 (25) Panthers Thomas Howard OLB UTEP
Howard can be used right away in blitz packages until he learns the system.

26 (26) Giants Rodrique Wright DT Texas
Wright has the size, strength and quickness to fit the versatile style coordinator Tim Lewis looks for in his defensive linemen.

27 (27) Jaguars Kamerion Wimbley DE Florida St.
The Jaguars' defensive line is their best unit, but their massive tackles would benefit from Wimbley's presence on the edge. Wimbley's stock has dropped some, but he would be a value pick here.

28 (28) Bears D'Qwell Jackson ILB Maryland
Coach Lovie Smith could put the finishing touches on his version of Kiffin's Tampa Bay defense by plugging in Jackson at outside linebacker.

29 (29) Bengals Pat Watkins S Florida St.
Watkins, a tall, lanky free safety, makes plays on the ball and is strong in pass coverage.

30 (30) Broncos Claude Wroten DT LSU
The Broncos have quantity on the defensive line but lack quality. Wroten never stops hustling and shows tremendous upside.

31 (31) Seahawks Joseph Addai RB LSU
If Seattle does not sign Shaun Alexander after the season, Addai will step in and have big cleats to fill.

32 (32) Colts Abdul Hodge ILB Iowa
Hodge fits the height, weight and speed profile head coach Tony Dungy likes at outside linebacker.
******************

No way the Chiefs use their pick on a RB considering LJ's breakout party. Also, if Deangelo Williams is there at #10, the Cards jump on him!

Oh, and there is no way the Texans cut Carr and draft Leinart #1!

Yes, this draft is clearly based purely on the author's ranking of players and not at all on the teams that would be drafting them and what their needs are, not to mention the draft order is out of date.

I think the two biggest ifs were as you put US and the Chiefs. If they draft anything OTHER than a WR with their #1 fans there will have a fit.

Now granted it won't be TOTALLY far fetched for them to draft D Williams. They DID draft LJ with Priest Holmes there already. Priest seems ready to head into the great blue yonder.

Quite frankly the carr thing isn't as CRAZY as ya'll put IF and this is a HUGE IF there is a complete overhaul of the management at the Texans which I don't see happening.

The Cards will GO DEFENSE again b/c Green is in love with his 2nd round pick from last year and most of their problems with running were from a mediocre O-line.

Jimmy Williams and Antrel Rolle. BEAUTIFUL. Exactly why I wouldn't mind a trade back and for JWilliams myself.
