So.. we need to make some changes.

Grid

All Pro
1. THIS is our new, faster defense? Where is the pass rush? Buffalo had one of the worse lines in the league last season. They made some changes but you cant tell me that these guys are now one of the BEST lines in the league. Our pass rush is as bad, or worse, than it was last year. Quit screwing around and do some blitzing.. It cant get much worse.

2. The point of this new offense was to provide Carr with better protection right? Get it out of his hands before the protection collapses right? Well it isnt working.. he has been sacked 4 times (as of right now) and our new offense sucks. Go back to the old offense. At least in that offense Carr may get sacked 4 times..but we would at least get some yardage and TDs.

3. I have NEVER been one of the "fire palmer/fangio/capers" crowd. I always found it to be pretty stupid to call for peoples heads when there were "weaknesses" in the team that prevented the coordinators from being able to call the game like they wanted to. Well there are no excuses anymore and I am officially P.O.ed that we have such terrible playcallers. Fire Fangio and Fire Palmer. We arent going to get anywhere if this is the best they can do with our talent. Start over. Maybe we can make the playoffs by 2008.

4. Capers... ya know.. if you are going to fire Palmer and Fangio.. you might as well go all the way and get rid of Capers too. I used to think that his win/loss percentage was a product of the fact that he has been the headcoach of two expansion teams. But im thinking now that he just isnt headcoach material.

This is the worst Texans loss ive ever witnessed. Before.. there was always a reason. The team we were playing was just BETTER.. or Davis got a bad case of the fumbles.. or our Oline was still learning to mesh..or using a new blocking scheme...or a key player was injured.

There were no excuses today.. we SHOULD have been out there at 100% showing our stuff. I lay this whole loss, and waste of an offseason, on the coaches.

I still think we can pull it together and do something with this season, but only if our coaches get their heads out of the collected a**es and give us a chance to win.

im disgusted. I hope we can pull through and at least make 8-8 this season. But I almost hope for 4-12, or 3-13, so that we can get a higher draft pick, and have a good excuse to make some major changes in our coaching staff.

I know its only the first game of the season, and im not saying we cant still kick some butt.. but im just completely shocked at how unprepared and "amateurish" we looked out there. This is not what our team should have looked like.. we have taken a step back when we were supposed to have taken 2 or 3 steps forward.

To me the D played their hearts out and mainly just gave up field goals.. The offense stinks.. Carr is still scared and he locks onto one receiver and then when that receiver is covered he dumps it to DD .. I saw nothing new from Carr. We honestly don't know how to spread the ball around consistantly.

It is painful to watch this team at this time

Yes the defense basically gave up field goals, but you are right. No pass rush again.

Thank you for speaking up and not settling for less than winning anymore. I wish more people on this board would stop defending this style of coaching. We have the tools to be better...but not the coaches to utilize them.

Keep in mind that they "just gave up fieldgoals" to a team that was one of the WORST at scoring touchdowns in the redzone last season.

AND they were starting a rookie QB.

We made their QB look like a pro. The only time our defense stood a chance was when the field was shortened to the point that J.P. couldnt pick our secondary apart.

we had NO pass rush against one of the WORST lines in the league starting a ROOKIE QB.

no.. our defense did NOT play well.. the played just good enough to keep us in the game. A good defense would have been able to pressure losman.. they would have caused some 3 and outs instead of letting the Bills march down the field on every drive and nickle & dime us to death with fieldgoals.

Personally I don't know if I'm interested in watching anymore of this unless changes are made. This is beyond unacceptable. If I owned this team Capers and Palmer would get fired before returning to Houston. They'd have to pay for their own air fare back.

What's got me so wound up right now is that I admit, I drank the Kool Aid. I fell for this garbage while they were steadily building the 1999 Cleveland Browns. I'm as annoyed at myself as I am at the Texans. Hell, they even had Chris Palmer putting together the offense and I fell for it. He was the ar****ect of the 1999 Cleveland Browns so why am I surprised that we got the exact same thing?

I hate these guys right now. All of them.

To the above nominated Capers, Fangio, and Palmer, I would like to add Charley Casserly.

Now Casserly i do NOT agree with.

He has done a great job of getting alot of talent on this team.

We have one of the most talented young teams in the league because of Casserly.

c-h-i-t is a common "misspelling" of the curse word that looks a bit like it. Its used to get around the filter.

Has he really? lets review.

We just got runover by Willis McGahee who the Bills were smart enough to grab despite his knee injury. What did our bargain back with a bum knee do today? Nothing because he's what? Third string? I submit that if Charlie hadn't gotten lucky with Domanick Davis we would literally have no running game right now. Oh wait, a second. We didn't have one today anyway.

Only one example but I'm thinking that Casserly is not the genius that the team likes to tell us he is. If he was I think he could have built an offensive line by now. The one we have is pathetic and has contributed to turning a #1 overall QB into one of the worst starters in the NFL. What a waste of a pick that was to select David Carr when the team did such a poor job of protecting him.

that's hilarious. I'm the one who brought that to Vinny's attention. Guess the brain lapses aren't limited to the team today.

Casserly is repsonsible for the following:

Carr #1 overall. QB rating the last three games 5.7, 0.0, 12.1

Behind the trades of Pbuc for three players, Babin for three players, passing on an impact player in DJ, for a non impact player in TJ. Signing average guys like Greenwood to fat contracts. Getting rid of veterans who understand the game in favor of inexperienced players. Grabbing Hollings in round 2. NOnly having 8 startes who were drafted. Prematurely signing Pitts, and others to bigger contracts than their talent dictates, hiring the coaches who have failed us......and on and on. No way Casserly gets a pass from me. No way at all.

No one gets a pass right now. The failures of this team start from the top all the way down to the water boys. Changes will be needed by week 4 if there is any chance of salvaging this season.

see.. thats a bunch of bull Porky.

Carr's passer rating in preseason doesnt even apply. Go look at some other starting QBs passer ratings in Preseason..they arent all pretty.

Pbuc and Babin are still up in the air.. though this game didnt make me feel too good about them.

Impact player in DJ for non impact in TJ? where is your proof? that is just your opinion and it could be completely wrong.

Im fine with us signing players to fat contracts as long as its done in an intelligent way. I havent seen any cap troubles yet.

You have to get rid of your old vets eventually. We had opportunities to do so, so we took em.

Hollings is a bust.

The Pitts signing wasnt premature, or a bad move. And we didnt pay him too much.

Hiring the Coaches isnt just on Casserly.

Herv's points are harder to argue.

I submit that if Charlie hadn't gotten lucky with Domanick Davis we would literally have no running game right now

You cant take a great draft pick like DD and say "casserly got lucky". That just isnt fair to Cass. He made a great pick when he saw DDs talent.

If he was I think he could have built an offensive line by now. The one we have is pathetic and has contributed to turning a #1 overall QB into one of the worst starters in the NFL. What a waste of a pick that was to select David Carr when the team did such a poor job of protecting him

THAT..is hard to deny.

(*edit* somehow I mixed up my paragraphs)

Changes to the way we play? most definatly. Changes to the coaching staff? no.. and not likely to happen. You dont see staff changes during the season. Besides.. if we tough it out till the end of the season, we have a better chance of getting a good replacement.

Why don't you go to the Pittsburgh board and post how much Roethlisberger sucks based on the average of his last five games? Oh wait... that's right... the preseason doesn't count.

Very true. Jerry Gray or Gary Kubiak would be great selections as coaches.

The question is, will we be high enough in the draft to get a decent QB?

"You cant take a great draft pick like DD and say "casserly got lucky". "

...a little luck is involved when you remember that DD was originally
drafted as a return man--was not even a starter at LSU

down by 2 tds.

you punt on 4th and inches in the fourth quarter.

then punt again.

Please, someone, anyone give me a GOOD answer!

How many coaches in the NFL or High school even would have punt right there? What are you playing the game for if not to win.

I know there are some people that know football out there..........
Am I wrong?

yah I know tsip.. but we still drafted him because we saw his potential and liked his attitude. No we didnt expect him to become our starting RB, but we saw he had the talent to play in the NFL, and he just turned out to be better than we expected.

Either way it was a great pick by Casserly.

Grid said:

That is not correct. Casserly picked Davis in the fourth round with the expectation that he would become a third down back and help our return game. Nobody in the Texans organization, least of all Charlie Casserly "saw DDs talent" and expected him to be our franchise back.

Casserly got lucky and the jury is still out as to how lucky he got. I didn't see Davis tearing it up today. Now we can go back and forth over whether it's because he's not the back or it's his lines fault but no way did Casserly pick him to be our starter.

I agree. I hope this year is a total failure, so we can get rid of the whole coaching staff. I have said from year 1, that these guys are way too predictable and conservative to have any success with this team. It is ashame that they are wasting Carr's talent in handing off 75% of the time and throwing 3 yard dump passes. It is sickening to watch. I am a seson ticket holder and I love this team and never miss a game, but I hope they suck this year, so we can start fresh and we will suck as long as Capers is calling these high school plays.

Jeez David. Already dressed and on your laptop on the plane are ya? You're awful quick. Must be the concierge service. You SUCKED. SUCKED. In CAPITAL LETTERS....SUCKED. Trying to make excuses for that pathetic display simply makes you look like an ignorant fan, or Carr himself. Heck, even his Mother probably wants to disown him after that display.

Anyone for Ragone? :texans:

Well being a Buckeye fan this is hard to say after last night, but maybe the texans can luck out somehow and get Vince next year. Carr is a bad decision maker plain and simple. He stands around too long, throws into triple coverage 40 yards down field, and i dont know if he has ever thrown a ball away to avoid a sack.

why did you take all that time to write this drivel? seriously..... :jk:

*sigh*

why did you take all that time to write this drivel? seriously.. you should be spending more time reading what knowledgable fans have to say, not forming flawed opinions off of whatever snippets of information you catch here and there.

I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed.. but ill point out a few flaws i caught.

First of all you CUT two of your leaders and arguably most productive players on the devensive side of the ball in J.Sharper and Aaron Glenn

Grid said:
*It was time to move on. We had NO threats in our front seven last season. No one that the other team had to take special consideration of. Sharper is a good LB, but he was not, and is not, a great LB. He was above average, but thats about it.

Why release him? do you recall all of the TEs and slot receivers chewing up our defense last year? remember us not being able to stop ANYONE on 3rd downs? That was Sharper and Foreman. They were simply TOO SLOW and WEAK in coverage. We needed speed.. and we needed youth on defense.. so thats what we got.

As for us not getting anything for them.. well we tried to get something but no one was willing to pay..ANYTHING.. so we had to release them. Why continue to hold onto a player that isnt producing, simply because you feel he may be worth something to someone? thank god we were more interested in WINNING than making a good looking trade for Sharper and Glenn.

Oh.. and the same goes for Glenn. Above average.. but he is in the decline. Hes old.. we needed someone to replace him very soon. We had the opportunity to get that player..and so we did. Glenn was given a choice.. he chose to leave. End of story.

First the O-Line and a particular weakness at LT where we had S.Wand last season and now have V.Riley who has played better than Wand ..... While Riley has played decent and is an upgrade he isnt the cornerstone player needed to protect Carr's blindside

Grid said:
*why? becuase we didnt draft him in the first round? Because his name isnt Orlando Pace? Have you seen Carr getting too much pressure? have you seen Carr getting sacked? I havent.. so what exactly is your arguement?

Carr will likely lead the league again in times sacked

Grid said:
*yah i know.. and we will probably all die too. And a comet will hit houston. and the bubonic plague will spread across america. and the oceans will overflow and god will point and laugh at us. wow it sucks to be alive.

Many on this board including myself have said the Texans lack a multi-dimensional TE

Grid said:
*The steelers have been playing without a quality TE since the early 90s. They seem to have gotten by just fine. Matter of fact.. ALOT of teams in the NFL seem to get by just fine without a superstar TE. A TE is not essential to a good offense.

At the Skill positions its Carr , A.J , D.D. and a buncha no-bodies

Grid said:
*why? cause you havent seen their name mentioned on Sportscenter? We have a VERY talented group of young WRs. We are going to have a very hard time picking which ones to keep and who to cut.

While on the subject of the skill positions ..... SOMEONE PLEASE CUT T.HOLLINGS , we have seen ENOUGH !! Cut your losses and keep someone who will make good use of a roster spot

Grid said:
*I agree.

So.. there are your flames.

You sure are singing a different tune now.....you should be spending more time reading what knowledgable fans have to say, not forming flawed opinions off of whatever snippets of information you catch here and there. :jk:

Great game BTW. I hope you hold #3, ND knocks off USC and we get to do that again in January. Great game. I think all Carr needs is a decent line. If the mental damage isn't already too severe, I believe he will come back. Saw the Oilers ruin Lynn Dickey( SP?). You never know.

Its a sad day when season ticket holders would rather lose a few games to rid themselves of a HORRIBLE coaching staff ... Maybe Mcnair will fire the coaches and the WHOLE O-line while he's at it. :goodnight

the "j/k"'s dont take away from the fact that you are trying real hard to "get me back" :)

I am not singing a different tune. I still agree with everything I said in that post, except maybe the part about our Oline playing better. They looked better in Preseason, but it was the same old song and dance today.

It has nothing to do with getting you back .... just pointing out the fact that just because someone has a different opinion than you do doesnt make them any less knoledgable a fan as you put it... Differences of opinion are expected and encouraged ..... :ok: ....and yeah , they sucked pretty bad today .
