So... Terrance Cody or Brian Orakpo?

The Texans current D-Line is possibly the worst in the NFL, though the linebackers are pretty much pants as well.

So, do you want a big space eater or a manster at DE?

Sure, the Texans can be just like the Detroit Lions that draft WRs every season with their 1st round pick, except the Texans are doing that with defensive linemen.

3 out of the last 4 seasons they have went defensive line. Maybe the talent is there but the coaching isn't. I think the Texans have a lot more pressing needs than defensive line.

TJ is a bust and AO really had no business going in the first round to begin with. Its a combination of idiotic drafting and idiotic coaching

Between those two it's Cody and it's not even close.

But, for me, it's between Cody and a LB - whoever the top graded LB turns out to be.

Orapko for sure as we need more pass rush then anything and with the right DC we could be moving in Big Biscuit aka Frank Okam in and out at NT/DE. I dont think it is the players as it is the coaching of the dline, even though some people do need to go.

Orakpo / Williams would be killing opposing QB's for years. Then I would look for that big boy for the middle in the second.

Considering we are going to be drafting top 5 in every round we should have some talent on that side of the ball.

I would really love for us to get one of those really great linebackers like Malauga(sp?) in a Texans uni next year. Our linebackers don't have enough speed to cause any kind of havoc in the run or pass game.

the ceiling for Cody is really, really high. I like Orakpo but as physical specimens go he's not head & shoulders above the talent he'll face on Sundays. Cody on the other hand is that specimen who stands out above the rest. He also can be a dominate 4-3 DT or a 3-4 NT that gives you flexability & versatility. The defensive line performance has been dissapointing because they're physically overmatched inside the tackles, leaving Mario chasing down the play from the backside.

I also like having two Alabama defensive (DeMeco/Cody) stars playing for the Texans, although most here would prefer two Longhorns (Okam/Orakpo).

I have changed my mind.

I would take Cody

We coud draft a Brown or English in the 2nd rd.

Why didn't I see Molden today?

I wasn't like the quartet of DR, Reeves, Bennett & Petey were doing a good job.

Even as a major UT fan, I couldn't care less where the kids come from.

The Texans just need to get some more talent on defense.

If that means they want Orakpo, then Orakpo it is.

its probably best to stay detached, still if I'm seeking defensive playmakers with the skill set to succeed in the NFL the first place I'm looking is the SEC, thats not a knock on the BIG 12 its a testamont to the speed, agility & size it takes to play defense & stop those power running attacks. A player like DeMeco gets kinda lost in the shuffle because of the talent level he is surrounded by or the system he played in, Alabama has always been known for its defensive run stopping ability so if the Texans are after a system to cherry pick from with proven success in the past why not pluck another cherry off the tree?

Orakpo/Cody in first
and
Cushing/Selvie in the second would be gold, in whatever combonation

Cody and Suggs in FA or Orakpo and Haynesworth in FA? I will wet my pants with either. Then use our second to pick the best interior OL available. Ill take Max Unger in the 2nd round. I want our trenches fixed once and forall. It wont make a difference what playmakers we have if our base is weak. FIx it at all cost and lets move on already. Once we get the trenches settled everything else will fall into place. We will be consistantly good instead of consistanly bad. Its just the way it works. And we are going too be bad until we realize that.

i know little about orakpo and almost nothing about cody, but for this team i'd take the monster DT ahead of a pass rushing DE. we have almost no ability to crash the pocket and without that it hardly matters what the DE's are capable of. just look at what manning could do, drop back 3 steps and stand there all day. unless we're positive that okam's going to develope into that guy, we need to make a commitment to find that space eater to anchor our defense.

personally i dont care about the lions references though, if we draft offensive/defensive linemen in the first round for the next 10 years it wouldnt hurt my feelings.

I'm with ya Beerlover .... Just not sure Cody declares, isnt he a Soph? At any rate , he's exactly what this defense is missing .... Fix the DL and the rest will fall into place around it.

First thing we need to do is fire the entire defensive coaching staff, they've shown the inability to coach up a player. Between Orakpo and Cody, I'd definetly take Orakpo and JMO but Cody needs to stay in school for another year and work on bringing his weight down and cardio conditioning so that he can stay on the field. If Cody declares for the draft this year I think he'll be a project player for whoever takes him. Orakpo has it all, speed, strength, heart, and a nonstop motor.

absolutely the truth. Rep. We must look at the sec first!

I think Cody has more or less stated he will be coming back next year. I wouldn't be opposed to Orapko but i think we need LB help and that's assuming even if we finally dump Greenwood.

This teams needs help in the back seven and needs interior linemen. Preferably each with a mean streak.

Orakpo is a phenomenal talent. He just gets to the QB and has the elite athleticism to boot. He will pass any eye test you give him and he has the numbers (when healthy) to back some things up; however, he has just started coming on, production wise, this year.

Cody is a JuCo transfer. He is a Jr. this year. He is just an animal of a different type that the NFL just doesn't see very often. I've watched quite a few Alabama games already this year (McClain and Jones are going to be elite talents when they declare by the way) and Cody has stood out. He isn't going to be the guy who records a ton of sacks. He simply doesn't have that level of quickness. He is a guy however who will push the pocket and cause the QB to roll out. He pushes 2 guys consistently at a time. He himself caused a lot of the QB hurries against Miss. St. He may not get the sacks, but he causes a lot of them. It's very hard for OL to seal block or get much push against him, allowing him to essentially eat up runs straight to him. Now, he still has a lot of upside simply from the athletic standpoint and where he could be sans 20 more pounds. He was listed as 375 vs. Miss St. His strength is just unmatched and while his stamina may not be elite, his effort on the plays he is in for is very good.

Conclusion: While both players are very good, I take Cody almost every time.

YTF, since you have watched Bama a few times:

I'm with you on McClain and of course on Julio Jones but what do you think about Rashad Johnson?

I've always kinda liked him. He had over 90 tackles and 6 picks last year as a soph.

But he seemed to be all over the field in the LSU game.

I also wonder if there won't be some big DTs for trade again this year like all those guys that moved last year. I seriously doubt it, seems like everyone got moved. Going rate was about a third rounder and change. Too bad we didn't get in on that bonanza, we could have had a Shaun Rogers or Kris Jenkins perhaps for the price of Antwan Molden and a little more.

Football player. Slight of size. Lack of top end speed. Good instincts. Not a first day guy. Will likely be a boarderline starter in the NFL but will take some work physically. He's listed at 6'0 187. Tough to get over that early in the draft. I like the guy a lot, but I think he a better college player than he will be an NFL player.

I'm not going to say bust anymore. Travis Johson was a guy taken twenty spots to high by a GM who was caught with his pants down in a trade back move. The team is better with T.J. in the rotation than with out him on the team's roster. TBS, I have no problem at all, even if some will gobeserk at another DT first round pick, if they think the Bama guy, Cody is going to be a stud. I think getting more athelic in the front seven is the most important...but if they feel this guy is a stud so be it.

And I have no problem at all if T.J. gets the same kind of journey man bump that Andre Davis got last year. Not break the bank, but the average Dt journeyman raise. Maybe he was just a late bloomer? Maybe he's playin for the contract ? We're better with him than with out him. You should of saw that plainly yesterday when he went down with the knee. And if he can't play next monday,......

you better pray that they can get a DT off the street, or Frank Okam shows great improvement over the next week....or else we will get rolled by the Browns o-line. Know what I mean by rolled ? Like roller skates rolled. Like our d-line is on ice skates..backwards. Like jelly rolled. We could get embrassed next monday. I mean really embarassed.
