Sleeper Thread

Texian

I'll start because a few have asked if I had a QB sleeper this year, he's playing tomorrow night and is one of the few Senior QBs. A product of PJ Fleck???

2016 ATT - 318, Comp - 228, 3086 yds, 71.7% Comp %, 30TDs - 1 INT, 183 QB Rat
Career: 11653 YDs - TDs 93 - INTs 28

Helps when you can just chuck it up to Corey Davis every play. Not to disparage the kid because he's played good but Davis against MAC DB's is a joke.
I've heard this argument before, but the kid will have decent talent to chuck it up to in the NFL. Either that, or Corey Davis is going to be a man among boys in the NFL.

My thoughts on Zach Terrell. Pros - Is well coached, smart, good presence, good basic fundamentals, good foot work, keeps both hands on the ball, a very good game manager, is consistent, has good ball placement, nice setup. Doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Cons - lacks touch on the ball, appears he may not have an NFL arm (suspect), may have small hands, a couple of passes came out like a helicopter.

Luke Falk is a nice sleeper if he enters this year

PFF seems to like him;

One of the most accurate quarterbacks in college football
Falk’s 78.7 adjusted completion percentage ranks No. 1 among all returning FBS quarterbacks (447 completions + 42 drops) / (649 attempts – 14 throw aways – 3 spikes – 2 batted passes – 9 hit as thrown) = 78.7. Falk has demonstrated good accuracy to all parts of the field and on longer developing passes as well as quick short passes. On plays where the throw occurred within 2.5 seconds or less, Falk’s 72.6 percent completion ranks No. 9 among returning FBS quarterback

Is there any sleeper O-linemen, Safeties, or LBers out there the Texans need to look at? Since the O-line class is supposed to be very bad this upcoming draft they may have no choice but to find a sleeper!

Heck of an athlete, and he has a pretty good arm... but his throwing motion needs some work.
I checked out some videos and he mostly makes his money running the ball. He's doing it against some rather slow lesser competition. I agree with your assessment, I too think he has a big hitch in his throwing motion. My first thoughts after watching him break some runs was, he wouldn't be able to get away with that in the SEC much less the NFL.

Safety- Nathan Gerry

LB - Kendall Beckwith

The OL class isn't as bad as some make it out to be.

Ot's that can be starter's/upgrades off the top of my head.

Robinson
McGlinchey
Bolles
Ramczyck
McDermott

OG/C's

Feeney
Cole
Lamp
Harlow
Pocic
Price
Eflin

So while there may not be elite guys, there are long term starters who have the ability to get alot better.

Thanks for the "heads-up" on Gerry. I hadn't really heard anything about him. Sounds like he could be a "poor mans" Landon Collins with his size (6-2, 220 lbs). He'll be one to keep an eye on for the Texans. Beckwith I already heard of and don't think the Texans will go for since he's a lot like McKinney in size and pass coverage skills. They need to find an ILBer who can replace Cush but have better coverage skills IMO. As for the O-linemen, well, I've read that some scouts aren't that high on Robinson even though he's considered the best of the bunch. I've also read that McGlinchey and Ramczyck may go back to school for their Sr year. Haven't heard much about Bolles from Utah but just looking at his listed size (6-5, 296 lbs) he maybe someone more suited to a "zone scheme." But then again, who knows what BOB is looking for! McDermott and Skipper could be 2 OT's they look at in the 3rd or 4th rounds. I haven't looked at the OG's/OC's as much but I think the Texans may try to get one in the mid to late rounds. I haven't heard anything about how good or bad this group looks but I know the Texans really need to find one who can replace Allen IMO.

Here's a SS that I wouldn't mind the Texans taking a look at in the mid to late rounds, Xavier Woods, La. Tech, 5-11, 219 lbs

STRENGTHS: "Possesses a versatile skill-set that teams look for at the position. Against the run, he comes to balance well on the move and maintains a level strike zone in his tackle attempts, wrapping with strong hands and wrists to finish. His speed and tackling skills allow him to be a successful blitzer and also shows on special teams as well.
In coverage, Woods does a nice job turning his head downfield to find the ball and make a play, using his body control and hand-eye coordination to undercut routes.
IN OUR VIEW: An NFL scout told me the Louisiana Tech coaches rave about his work ethic, preparation and makeup, showing the leadership traits to "get on teammates" when needed. He isn't a household name, but keep Woods on your radar for the 2017 draft class."

I'd like to keep Forrest Lamp at OT and see how he works out before thinking about moving him to the inside.

Sure, he's only 300lbs, but he played well against Alabama this year and he played well against LSU and Ole Miss last year. No problem with a bull rush.
Good feet, good kick slide, play with leverage and redirect well.
I'll be looking at him during the Senior Bowl week.
