Shuttle Cones times

El Tejano

Hall of Fame
I know we got alot of OLB and hybrid DE prospects out there and we've really looked at their 40 times but I recall Clay Matthews, who is a kind of player we need, had an awesome time with his Shuttle Cones drill (or cones drill). Do we know what some of this years prospects had for times in that drill?

Thanks.

Here are some of the OLBs that had the best Shuttle and Cone times.

OLB
Scott Lutrus - Connecticut
Sam Acho - Texas
Justin Houston - Georgia
Brian Rolle - Ohio St.

Out of the DEs JJ Watt had the best Cones time. Here are the rest.
Jabal Sheard - Pitt
Robert Quinn - North Carolina
Aldon Smith - Missouri.

Man, I keep trying to find something wrong with Aldon Smith and the more I try, he keeps moving up my board. I wouldn't mind seeing us go Aldon Smith round 1 and one of the OLBs above in round 2 or 3.

I think Sam Acho and Chris Carter should be in the conversation for 2nd round pick. I don't think either will last to our 3rd... nor should they.

I just put "or 3rd" because stranger things have happened. The way I figure, we don't got alot of the outside pass rush guys on roster, and trying to determine if a DE is going to make the proper transition is a gamble. Might as well get both and see if you can hit on one or both of them.

No doubt about it. We're all just guessing where these guys will be going. There's always those guys that go earlier or later than expected.

I wanted SS Michael Mitchell from Ohio in the 5th round and was told that was too early, he'd go undrafted. Freaking Raiders took him in the 2nd round!! LOL Then again when the Texans selected Xavier Adibi in the 4th round a couple years back I was confused. I was sure he was long gone and I thought he'd be a 2nd rounder.

That's why I looove the draft. :toropalm:

I love Sam Acho, he looks so much like an OLB who will monster the QB.

Such a good athlete.

If we draft him I won't be disappointed.

Agree with you on Smith. I've been concerned with his injury but he sure looks good. Kiper's most recent board has him moving up. I have Acho on my mock at 3rd but certainly may go sooner. My concern for him is I have not seen him drop in coverage much as Texans will probably require OLb to do that. If Quinn is ther #11, I think I'd take him (unless my #1 Jones is there).

The thing that worries me the most about Smith is that most of his big plays in college came when he lined up inside where he beat un athletic guards. That wont happen in the NFL. He really wasnt that impressive rushing from the outside where he would be most of the time if we drafted him.

What helps me with that thought though is if you line him up on Mario's side. That means one of two things. Either Mario is going to force the double team and Aldon Smith will break free, or the tackle is going to go out on Aldon and you get Mario one on one with a guard.

Lutrus would be a great 5th rd pick

After drafting OkOye I say no to drafting Nigerian players.

How many Nigerian players become great NFL players ? Hali is about the only one I can think of.

Give me a Polamalu or Ngata ,Seau etc... any day.

Right, its because they are Nigerian.

Everyone knows that Nigerians have a genetic disposition towards being bad NFL players.

That's about the range I'm seeing Lutrus also.

How about the other Nigerian named Okoye? Christian Okoye aka The Nigerian Nightmare. He was a real good RB for the Chiefs.

Has nothing to do with genetics and everything to do with work ethic.

Samoans seem to work harder than Nigerians.

Name 5 good/geat Nigerian players?

I can name 5 good/great Samoans.

Well you could insert any name in this draft and and come away with that conclusion.
