Should the Texans take a chance on Connor Barwin ?

nunusguy

Hall of Fame
Barwin went from solid yet unspectacular tight end to the best defensive end in the Big East in less than a year, leading the conference in sacks and being named all conference. In 14 games, he had 11 sacks, 53 tackles and16 tackles for loss. To get an idea of how athletic and how much of a disruptor he is in all facets, Barwin had eight passes defended and blocked three punts

Is Barwin the latest version of Mike Mamula ? Or could he be the edge-rusher across from Mario who really gives the Texans for the first time some real,
consistant pressure on the opposing QBs ?

I would have no problem if he was our 2nd round pick. A 3-4 team might grab him earlier in the 2nd though after that performance at the combine.

I want us to draft M. Johnson in the 1st.

In the 2nd I would like us to draft one of the following (One of these guys should be there)

1. Barwin- He ran a 4.56 @ the combine, is a playmaker that can play SAM or WILL
2. Sidbury- He ran a 4.64 & can play the SAM or DE spots. both of these guys can rush the QB & fits the pressure defense Bush says he wants to play.
3. Sean Smith CB-FS- ran a 4.52 He gives us the ability to match up with 3-4 WR sets without having to change personel on 3rd downs.

You don't know that for sure about Conner Barwin Yet. Now all the scouts say he can...but until you get him in camp, you're not going to know he can start for you in September. I believe he can.

But it is a formidable jump to expect a guy who's never done it to make a jump like that. Go form never playing a position before, to locking down a starters slot by September.
The numbers say he could do it.

TBS all four of your guys are great prospects. I'd have no problem with moving back and taking anyone of them in the bottom of the first. It's a gamble, but it's a high end gamble. If you hit....you get a great player on the cheap for a couple of years.

Had my say on MJ....buyer beware. I believe you could get one...I don't think the rest of the league will miss so bad that you end up with two of them. Might happen.
I also think that all four had great combines. If you want one, you'll be playing chicken with the rest of the league that they won't go off the board before our second round pick.

Agreed, Barwin should go to a 3-4 team. He's a athletic, quick pass rusher who is perfect size for the 3-4 system. He screams the 3-4 OLB.

They just singed Smith....Making a trade down and taking one of these athletic tweeners an real possibility.

Cassel went to the Chiefs for their second round pick....considering what we paid for Matty...a bargain.

They got a real bargain on Cassell & got Vrabel thrown in to boot. This tells me they are going to load up in FA with all of the cap room they have created.

Now that the Texans have signed A.Smith they are prime candidates for trading down.

I believe they may be able to get 2 out of the 4. If I had to gues after the trade down we end up with S. Smith & Sidberry in the 1st & 2nd rds
