Packers released FS Darren Sharper and CB Michael Hawthorne according to WTMJ 620 in Milwaukee...

Hawthorne is no surprise. He got burnt everytime he was on the field last season. Wonder if they just weren't able to work out a trade for Sharper? Never thought both Sharpers would be on the market at the same time.

darren sharper and jamie sharper i guess techniquelly are both up for the taking...wouldn't that be something if they ended up on the same team...do i hear romeo calling

Sharper has an ugly salary that no one wants [thank you Sherman].

Also, his play has declined.... he is only good for stopping Hail Mary now.

I think he is still a quality safety, give him a little bit of a better defense and let him take a few chances and then he will get back to old form...will be a good pickup if a team doesnt overpay him...

Ok, he was released today, my bad.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Green Bay Packers saved about $3.4 million with the release of S Darren Sharper.

The thing is... there's no place for Sharper to go if we blow our money on him.

Coleman's already signed for the next few years, so we don't want to waste $3 million there. Earl's established as the SS, and for him to go back tot he bench after earning a starter spot, is just taking a step back for his development.

Given that, I don't think Sharper will want to be relegated to a backup role. Gutted.

Oh well, like I said, he's only good for intercepting Hail Mary passes.

I agree. Earl has earned his spot. I'd also like to see us slowly work Lord into the FS spot. I know Coleman is here for the next three years but maybe we could give some work to Lord. The kid is a great athlete and since he was a QB in college I'm sure he won't have a problem being a QB on our defense.
