Seahawks | Sharper Agrees to Five-year Deal - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 12 Apr 2005 15:04:52 -0700

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with free agent LB Jamie Sharper (Texans) on a five-year, $17.5 million deal that includes a $1.5 million signing bonus.

Like I said in the other thread, good signing for them...He may be more of a difference maker there than he was here...If anything, those contract figures prove he was being overpaid here...

it also makes his leaving easier, if he didnt want to restructure his deal here than good riddance

What kind of defense does Seattle run? 3-4, 4-3, cover 2 or what? Just curious. And I guess its almost safe to say that Sharper will be retiring in Seattle. I liked that guy but he was getting old and if he got old then our defense would start playing like they were old so its better that he left. But I will always remember him for that play he made against Oakland. I was at the stadium tellin my cousin how much his Raiders suck when Sharper knocks the <explective> out Collins and the ball too, and then picks it up for an easy D-TD and proves me right.

Just saw it... It's going to be weird to see him in a 'Hawks jersey. Barring injury, we are going to play against him this season.

what the heck.. 5 year 17 million with a 1.5 mil signing bonus? that is freakin chicken feed. I swear.. if Sharper was willing to go that low, we should have been able to trade him.. Id bet money that he intentionally kept his price up just to make sure we didnt get anything for him.

If anything this gurantees that we'll see him against the Texans this coming year, and I wish him the best in Seattle. I think he'll do fine there, but he obviously was overpaid here. Good Luck Jamie.

I guess he really didnt want to stay in Houston cause im sure they offered him that much.

I would bet they offered him a larger signing bonus, $5-6 mil, but only a 3 year deal (like the structure of Marcus Coleman's deal), but Jaimie thought he should be closer to Bell/Hartwell (or was insulted they wouldn't offer him as much as Greenwood). Can't imagine the Texans didn't offer more than $1.5 mil signing bonus because at $1.5 mil the time period almost doesn't matter because the contract will never result in much dead money.

The Seahawks run a 4-3 defense...

I sound like a broken record but I'm glad that the Seahawks got the Sharper Image. One of the few NFC teams that I like so this is easy to swallow. Best of luck to you out there Jamie.
