FSU Will Seek Another Year of Eligibility
Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Wyatt Sexton, the Florida State quarterback who was found disheveled and disoriented on a city street last month, has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and will miss the upcoming season, the university reported Saturday.

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said the university would seek a sixth year of eligibility for Sexton, who has already used his redshirt season. He is the Seminoles' only experienced quarterback.

"It looks like Wyatt will need several months of treatment and will have to miss the season," Bowden said in a statement.

A specialist in the field of Lyme disease, Dr. S. Chandra Swami from Hermitage, Pa., said Sexton's organs have been infected and recommended intensive antibiotic therapy over a period of months.

"Wyatt has active Lyme Disease that has resulted in neuropsychiatric and cardiovascular deficits," Dr. Swami said.

The disease is curable, but the estimated recovery time for his advanced stage of infection is several months. If untreated, the disease can cause joint swelling and brain inflammation.

All this after the incident with police where he called himself God. Hasn't been a very good offseason for the Seminoles or Sexton.

The article mentions that the Seminoles will be without LBs Sims and Nicholson for at least the Miami game due to recent run-ins with the law. Not sure if Sims is out for the entire season or not.

*EDIT* I found an article over the incident Sims had with police.

Apparently since it's a misdemeanor it's up to Coach Bowden to decide how to handle any sort of suspension.

And the bad offseason for Bowden and the Seminoles continues...

Cromartie to Miss 2005 Season
Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State cornerback Antonio Cromartie will miss the 2005 season after tearing a ligament in his left knee, the latest setback for a program already hit hard with illness, academic and legal troubles.

Cromartie tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during voluntary workouts Tuesday.

Florida State trainer Randy Oravetz said Cromartie will undergo surgery next week to repair the knee.

"You just have to believe that things happen for a reason," Cromartie said Wednesday. "If I do everything the trainers and doctors tell me to do, I'll be back ready to go for next season."

Bad year for Florida football this year.

why, i know fsu has had many problems, but florida and miami have been pretty quiet. sims i think will play on sept. 5. once his girlfriend doesn't press charges he will be back on the team.

Miami is in good shape I think. Kyle Wright is going to be a good one and Kirby Freeman is a top recruit (RFr) who will probably start next year.

urban meyer doesnt have a running back and miami has no quarterback

i think it is more of meyer not having a proven running back, they should be fine. chris leak running that offense should take the presure off wynn and thorton. either of the miami qb's can't be as back as berlin and their defense should be better than last years. they will give wright and freeman time to develop on the job. fsu will get sims back and nicholson will probably only be out 2-3 games if any and their new qb (lee or weatherford) has better talent than sexton. also, its not like he has started for three years so it isn't that big of a lose, that only affects their first game, but that will be a defensive battle since both teams will start qb's with zero combined starts. who ever fsu's qb was the offense was going to run thru washington and booker anyway. after sept 5 both teams have fairly easy schedules for a the next few weeks. i don't think we can count out the state of florida that easy.
