Senior Bowl

Wolf

100% Texan
Monday notes from ht.com
Mobile, AL-- The 2013 Senior Bowl practices began Monday afternoon, with the South squad working out at Fairhope Stadium in Fairhope, while the North got started at Ladd-Peeples Stadium in Mobile. The annual college all-star game will take place Saturday afternoon at the latter venue, with the week of practices flooded with NFL front-office personnel, the media and fans.
The Georgia Bulldogs have five players participating in the game, and HoustonTexans.com was able to catch up with a pair of defenders after the South practice. Tackle John Jenkins (6-3, 359) was all smiles afterward, and is confident he can show he’s able to get to the quarterback.
“With me being so big and able to pass rush, some people question my ability to pass rush,” Jenkins said. “But that’s what I’m here for:* to answer all the questions.”
Jenkins finished the 2012 season with 50 tackles and 15 quarterback pressures.
Fellow Bullldog Cornelius Washington (6-4, 264) practiced with the South on Monday, and believes he can play in any type of defense.
“I can do both,” Washington said. “I played the 3-4 my last few years in college, but I started out playing the 4-3. I can put my hand down in the dirt, or I can stand up and rush. It really doesn’t matter to me.”

A pair of Aggies also spoke on Monday, including linebacker Sean Porter (6-1, 231), who said the week to come will be a challenge in one specific way.

Day 2 ht.com focused on the wr's

MOBILE, AL-Tuesday morning the Senior Bowl North squad practiced at Ladd-Peebles stadium, with the South following suit in the afternoon at the same venue. HoustonTexans.com trained it’s eyes predominantly on the wide receivers, and has the following miscellaneous notes.
-Louisiana Tech wide receiver Quinton Patton caught a deep ball for a touchdown, caught passes underneath, along the sideline and was constantly hammered by various South defensive backs. His toughness was impressive, and he said afterward that he prides himself on his “physicality”.
-Georgia nose tackle John Jenkins was able to penetrate in various drills.
-Alabama linebacker Nico Johnson believes playing for head coach Nick Saban in college made this week easier to adjust to than perhaps some others taking part in the Senior Bowl. He also thinks the complexity of the Saban and Kirby Smart defense for the Crimson Tide will serve him well in the NFL, whether he’s playing in a 3-4 or 4-3 defense.
-Arkansas wide receiver Cobi Hamilton made an acrobatic catch and toe-tapped one foot in on the sideline, but it wouldn’t have counted in a game situation. The ball was high and a bit wide, and he managed to come down with it.

This draft might lack star power at the top but the depth is outstanding. Great year to stockpile 3rd/4th round picks. Ton of NFL starters

Watched Marshall WR Aaron Dobson on tape last night. Exciting player. Sudden, attacks the ball, elusive after the catch. 2nd rd at worst

Purdue DT Kawann Short had a fantastic practice today. Won easy during 1-1's with quickness and power.

This is one of the best groups of Senior Bowl CBs I've seen. They've created a lot of buzz. #SeniorBowl

3 guys that have struggled-- BYU DE Ziggy Ansah, SMU DE Margus Hunt and Utah St CB Will Davis. Tomorrow is big day for all 3. #SeniorBowl

La Tech WR Quinton Patton has been excellent at the Sr Bowl. Nice mix of quickness/toughness and he has strong hands. #SeniorBowl

One junior player generating a ton of buzz is Florida DT Sharrif Floyd. Had one high ranking exec guarantee he'd go top 10.

After watching the tape, star of the day was Missouri Southern DT Brandon Williams. Destroyed OG Brian Winters repeatedly. #SeniorBowl

Wheaton (Oregon St) and Patton (La Tech) were both impressive today. Sudden release and very efficient getting out of breaks #SeniorBowl

Don't know if I agree with his assessment completely. I do agree there is a lack of star power. Just don't think there is as much depth as he thinks there is, especially at QB, OC, OT, and ILB. Overall this just seems like a very weak class, even with the 70+ Juniors that came out early. I hope I'm proven wrong and the Texans have a blockbuster draft. Just not feeling it right now.
