Senior Bowl game thread.

Holding penalty cost his team a TD---not good at all.

I've was watching him every snap on that drive and he was holding alot, plus he was easily letting guys get under his pads on running plays. I'm not overly impressed right now. He's not helping his stock at all so far.

I've been watching him, too, and other than two plays (the holding play and the previous play on third down where he lost leverage) I thought he was doing quite well.

You haven't seen him grabbing people alot? I have and even Mayock commented on it. The raw skills are there, but the kid needs alot of work on his technique...it's like he doesn't even know how to use his hands.

Mike Iupati just got completely worked over for a sack......again, not very impressed and he isn't helping himself at all today.

I like Colin Peek TE Alabama--took a big hit and held on for a TD. Not the fastest or most athletic, just a good football player. Stock up IMO.

Blount is helping himself ALOT today. If he has a good combine, he might solidify a 3-4 round selection.

I totally agree. Always seems to push the pile forward. Also seems kinda quick for a guy 240+ lbs. Good future as power back. Seems to have that extra attitude needed to make that hard extra yard. Would look good in Texans gear next year.

Yea and if he doesnt pan out we can have him punch Peyton Manning and Vince Young twice a year.

That'd be fun to see.

Brandon Graham will be a stud in the NFL with his non-stop motor. Probably another Dwight Freeney, just hope he doesn't go to a division rival.

Tyson Laulau looked reall good out there and his college stats are impressive, he would be a nice DT to have on our team.

He's always been considered a guy who could dominate when somebody lit a fire under his ass.

Unfortunately you have to keep a flame thrower pointed at him 24/7 or he's a 330 lb unmotivated lard ass.

But you can say that about 75% of 350 lbs DT's...

Wether people want to admit it or not....elite DTs in the NFL take plays off as well. (LOL, if they didn't Chris Myers would end up on his butt a hell of alot more) You simply can't ask a guy who weighs 340+ to go all out for 4 quarters. The ones that make their effect count and can dominate when it matters are the ones considered "elite". Suh is special though, I've never seen a DT play with and maintain the level of energy that he played with in that Big 12 championship game.

Went to Chili's to watch the first half of the Senior Bowl and this is what I remember. Since I only watched the first half, I might of missed something in the second half.

1. Iupati had a bad day. In the first couple of downs he went head to head with Dan Williams and did pretty well. Then Dan switched sides with Gino Atkins (at least I think it was Gino) from Georgia who just smoked Iupati on several consecutive plays one of which was the holding call. With the exception of the combo block that sprung Blount for the TD, Iupati wasn't the same for the rest of the day. Atkins is a smallish DT that is very similar to the ones used by Indy. If Iupati couldn't handle Atkins, he's not any good to us.

2. Dan Williams is huge! While not as big as Mt. Cody, his ass is just as wide (a particularly good feature for run stopping DTs). While Williams didn't make very many plays, he did what he was suppose to do which is clog the hole and make the running back change direction. He really helped himself today. If we have a choice between Iupati and Williams, I'd take Williams.

3. Of the players I've talked about so far, I think we'd take Gino Atkins. He's a small, super quick DT that always seemed to be disrupting the play. Atkins is exactly the kind of DT Bush/Kubes likes. This isn't my preferance, its what I think the Texans would do. (If someone recorded the Senior Bowl, can you please confirm what I think I saw.)

4. Lagarrette Blount was easily the best runner out there. Fast, powerful, moving the pile ~ ohhhh, my mouth is salivating just thinking about it. The only problem I see with this guy, besides his checkered past, is that he runs a bit upright ala Eddie George. If he lowers his pads a bit, he's going to be a beast.

5. Taylor Mays always seemed to be around the ball, but also missed a couple of wide open tackles. We have enough guys who miss tackles, we don't need another one.

6. I agree with everybody else, Brandon Graham from Michigan looked real good.

Anyway, those are the players I wanted to watch and that's my take.

Mike Iupati is having a rough start...he hasn't really helped himself so far in this game.

he's a joke...I thought his play was lacking in fundamentals and he didn't show he understands leverage and he is not going to be a player at the next level. I'll have to poke sharp sticks in my eye if we draft him.

Seriously?

Blount impressed me. Better feet and more speed than I thought he had. Looks like I might be wrong on him.

Cody looked like a tub-o-lard. The camera showed him getting in his stance and his gut was dang near touching the ground. He might very well end up being a success in the NFL, but showing up at the SB 30 lbs over weight does nothing but leave scouts with ?. He'll probably show up in better shape at the Combine, but IMO, that'll leave scouts with even more ?

no your not. just watch tape of him trying to block. is lost would never cut it here.

With the assumption he checks out in the interviews with us, I'd like to pencil him in as our 5th rounder plus or minus. But pass blocking is really important for our RB's to do so he'll have to demonstrate the ability to get coached up in that dept by the time the season kicks off. If not, I don't see us drafting him.

count me out of your scenero. the only back who impressed me who fits what the Texans are all about is Ben Tate, form running back U Auburn. good proportions, 5-11 217 one cut downhill inside runner who blocks like a demon on fire :firehair: & can catch the ball out of the backfield. I would give him the edge over Toby Gerhart just because of his blocking skills, yes it is very, very important.

If we drafted Blount it wouldnt be as a full time back, it would be for short yardage situations where his blocking ability wouldnt be a factor.

Tate is my #2 RB behind Mathews. I would love to grab either of those guys in the second.

Mike Iupati is having a rough start...he hasn't really helped himself so far in this game.

You mean besides getting off his combo block twice and knocking his man ten yards down the field ? He did hold when he got beat inside.....but I've seen Erick do the very same thing.

You talking about the combo block where he stuck his arm out and held up another defender....yeah, in the league that gets called as a hold.
