Poll was 96-7 ... coming out.

Like XSF a bust and a pick I wish we had back.

A tale of three teams by Me .

If you go back to the 2014 -17 drafts and compare the Texans , Falcons , and Raiders , it's pretty obvious what's happened . Take into consideration the Texans picked 1st , Raiders 5th , Falcons 6th in 2014 which are high picks so they all stunk .

IMO ... we're all going to agree with the pick pretty much but that doesn't matter . What counts is the results .

I guess I was one of the 7. I don't remember if I voted.

As far as XSF goes I wanted Jimmy G really badly, but thought XSF was a good pick. He had the ability but lacked the work ethic. Look at how his body is shaped, he looks like a summo wrestler.

They missed on three other really good guards for XSF . You take Jimmy G in the 2nd and your pick of Trai Turner or Gabe Jackson in the 3rd .

Yep

I wanted the Texans to trade back into the 1st for Jimmy G.

When Jimmy G fell to the 2nd of course I wanted Ricky to pick him. I really liked Jackson and wanted Ricky to pick him with 3-1. This is the reason that the Raiders are where they are they picked 1st rd Mack 2nd rd Carr 3rd Rd Jackson and why the Texans are where they are. 1st rd Clowney 2nd rd XSF 3rd rd Fiedo.

In the yrs since not much has changed except Ricky learned when he wants a guy like BOB wanted Jimmy G they now trade up to get the guys they want. Watson/Fuller/McKinney/Strong with middling results.

His shuttle and cone were very pedestrian raising questions about change of direction, separation and route running.

only 2 WRs had a worse combined time of the cone and the shuttle, Tello Luckold from Harding and Ezell Ruffin from SDSU. A good reason why Strong a potential RD1 pick dropped to RD3. Should have been a red flag at the Combine after doing all the drills before refusing to do the cone and shuttle drills saying he had a tight hammy. His Pro Day times (4.21, 7.34) may have explained the reason for his tight hammy.

No doubt Strong has good straight line speed and a tremendous ability to catch the ball at his highest point. However the slowest DB may be able to cover Strong when he's getting in and out of his change of direction routes.

Just because it seemed like an appropriate thing to do.....

And can the coaches turn the unformed balls of potential they draft into realized potential talented SOBs?

When 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks are failing to improve it may have been a bad pick and/or it may be bad coaching.

People may have preferred a different player but the Texans are drafting players where outside evaluators say they should go with rare exception.

strange that there has been bad coaching or bad picks for 11 years now

There have been bad picks here way before Rick Smith. There will be bad picks way after Rick Smith.

But during that 11 year run there were several pro bowlers, a couple of all pro's four AFC South Championships, a passing leader, a rushing leader, a sack leader, two DROYs.... & a #1 defense.

assing leader was 2 #2 picks on an unproven QB that worked out because of the coach, rushing leader was a lucky UDFA, sack leader a #11 pick, the two DROY's were both Cushing who has been suspended or injured way too much.

I get that the Texans have accomplished a lot ( only because of the division of weakness they play in ) in his tenure, bit it's been in spite of not because of

RSM is a disaster, and that's putting it mildly. If the McN's don't see that, we are doomed so bad that we would actually look on Bud Adams time here fondly

And no SB contenders.

But you've said you're happy just going to the game hanging out and enjoying the festivities. So I'm glad to see that you're content with mediocrity.

Was it you just extolling the Raiders a few hours ago? We played them in the wild card round last year... 8 months ago. We got to the same place they did. They had a QB, we didn't. We had a defense, they didn't.

They look like "contenders" now, we don't. But it's only week 2 & they are the Raiders.

Mediocre?? Billy's offense is mediocre. Crennel & Ricky fielded the #1 defense in the league.

you act like the Texans are the only team that does this. EVERY team does. There is not ONE team in the league that do not have draft bust in atleast every other draft.

Looks like the Raiders/Falcons didn't in the Clowney draft.

Tell me which SB contender has drafted as badly as Ricky has. Lets just do the AFC.

Pats, some misses but far more hits than misses and regardless of draft/trade/FA status BB quickly moves on if a guy cant play. See: Ealy this yr. Chad Johnson/Aaron Dobson etc...

Pittsburgh? K.C.? Oakland? and the beat goes on. These are the teams Ricky is competing with to get to a SB and plain and simple they've done a better job of acquiring talent.

Ricky didn't contribute to the bad offense? I mean the man didn't sign a single FA and only drafted a 4th/6th rd pick to help fix what was obviously a terrible OL. Instead he made the brilliant decision to draft a QB and leave him unprotected. BTW, I'm not absolving Billy of total blame either. He's had his share of screwups too. Particularly the Savage scewup if he was going to pull the plug and move onto Watson so quickly. Makes me think that move came from upstairs.

I'm sure the front office would have faked a concussion, or put Savage on IR with a bruised elbow.

If you're saying I dont trust the FO you would be correct. They're pulling all of the strings with no consequences. IMHO and I know you disagree with me.

# No dissension down on Kirby.

When a player doesn't work out or fails to meet whatever expectations some or all of us had for him why do we always have to go through this "So where are the (insert players name here) supporters?" Bullshit? Why does there always have to be an accounting over whose hopes were misplaced? Does it make people feel that good to know that they did or didn't guess right as to what a particular player was capable of?

This is why I find it hard to connect with a lot of fans regardless of the sport really. I grew up watching football with a handful of fans who were friends. We talked daily about the Oiler's highs and lows and we talked face to face so there was none of this attitude where when someone felt they had been proven right they were more concerned about rubbing everyone else's noses in it than talking about what "we" were going to do now that player "X" hadn't worked out. You know, because the focus was on the team being successful and our mutual desire to see that happen?

Now online it's just people arguing with screen names about who was right. All they ever want to do is be right or get their dicks sucked over how smart they are. It gets old and it wears your enthusiasm for the game and the team down when you find yourself surrounded by that ****. 2017 is two games old and it already feels like Week 8-10 and we're out of it and depressed.

If you never thought Strong would amount to anything that's fine but this should not make you happy.

I hope you don't think of me this way..

Busty

Where are the Strong defenders now.

Nah, where ever did he get that idea..

To say that this is a weird move is an understatement.

Well we did not release him when he hid pot down his junk, now were so short on WRs and we go ahead and release the guy.

Alrighty then!

I've liked Strong since his college days. And last season I thought he was arguably the best WR when targeted considering how awful of a year DHop had, we've just had crap QB's nearly his entire tenure here. I fully expect him to go to another team and be no worse than 4th best WR there.

Strong was the Savage of WRs. We kept hearing how badass this guy riding the pine was, yet he never saw the field. When he did, he flopped like a fish.

If there was one WR on this team exceeding expectations, I could see where people would fault the selection.

If there was ever one WR on this team in the last 4 years who exceeded expectations I could see where people would fault the selection.

But when you happen to have one of the highest paid WR in the league looking like JAG, how can you blame the selection of a talented prospect?

Then we've got PFF telling us Oday Aboushi scored higher than any OL we had on the field in the off-season of 2016 & he can't crack the starting line-up, most here agree Mancz was our most solid interior lineman in 2016, but he's benched in favor of two guys we btch'd about all last season...

Then it takes 2 qtrs of football for our HC to toss away three months of our off-season program... when they had three years to prepare a QB to start

woosaaa.... woosaaa.... woosaaa

Seattle Seahawks re. OL
:

From there, things go downhill fast. Joeckel played just four games last season. The former first round pick’s best ever PFF grade in a full season: 52.7 in 2015. The right side of the line could be a total disaster. Tackle Germain Ifedi is getting his lunch eaten against preseason scrubs. He also ranked in the bottom five in blown blocks among guards last season, per FOA. Newly acquired right guard Oday Aboushi has played just 11 games in the past two seasons and not particularly well, with a PFF grade of 45.5 in 2016.
