Scouting the '08 draft

if that isn't reason enough to draft a safety then i don't know what is. maybe harrison will work out...but i doubt it...

Personally I think peoples impressions of C.C are totally off...

He was not best suited to be a FS and because he was playing out of position people wanted to jump all over the guy for not being stellar....

C.C played FS adequately IMO, and I think he is a really good SS...

But hey...don't listen to me...afterall it's just my opinion...

Back to piling on C.C as you all were....

Personally I would love having CC and Boulware as our SS's battling it out. Once Glenn Earl comes back we'll see b/w those three for SS. I'm interested to see how Demps takes to our defense and he and CC can probably battle for our starting/back up FS position which would be fine because....

If we don't take a LT...I'm really hoping for Kenny Smith (unlikely) or Reggie Smith outa OU for FS.

Reggie Smith (w/ Demps backing up)
CC Brown (w/ Boulware backing up)
Dunta at CB #1
F. Bennet at CB #2
Faggins as nickle

This would look great to me starting out for 2008 season, esp. when we have Okoye, Mario, TJ, Demeco up front!

I think our safeties are fine...Between Von (who is doing a really good job...I think he's second on the team in tackling), CC, Demps (if he's back next year) and Boulware I think we are pretty solid as a unit...

I think right now, the thing that was hurting us the most in the secondary was the sorry nickel and CB#2 play...Hopefully Bennett shows signs that he can be a #2 corner opposite D.Rob...

But honestly, at this point, I don't see a first round DB nor LT being selected...

Of course it's ealry, but playing Ms. Cleo that's just the way I'm seeing it right now...

C.C Brown is our best safety....

He isn't. He had a good game last week and I will give that to him. Also, he is much better suited for SS than he is FS. He has no business in a uniform at FS. With all healthy and equal, he is our 3rd best SS after Earl and Boulware. We won't be in a position to draft Phillips (crosses fingers not to be), and he isn't even my favorite S this early on. I really like Craig Steltz out of LSU as a 3rd or 4th rounder. He won't wow you with anything physical, but he just makes things happen. He makes plays. That's all I want, especially if we upgrade our CB issue, and let our collection of SS's battle it out.

I think a great '08 secondary would look like this:

CB1 - Daunta
SS - Earl with Boulware backing him up
FS - Demps with Steltz competing out of TC for the job
CB2 - Samuels or a 1st rounder like King or Talib
Nickle - Bennett if he develops, Petty otherwise
Dime - Petty unless Bennett strugles to adjust

here is a 08 draft board from ourlads which is a pay site/subscription I've used for a couple years, this version is free so mods no need to delete it so it can be shared with this board- http://www.ourlads.com/2008prospects.cfm

now remember they only list seniors so you could probably add/mix in 6-12 underclassman, but as it stands 10/12/07 where/who do the Texans pick (you could project a few spots higher based on underclassman)?

All I can do is ROTFLMAO off at that...

Keep up the great analysis though...

* underclassman in bold

QB from Kentucky Andre Woodson,

I have to admit did not know much about him before this season, as far as stat wise go but saw parts of a couple games so far this year.

this would be a good time for Rick Smith to trade down & pick up extra picks. it would be sweet to have an early 2nd rd. pick & still grab a premier cb on the rise. I really, really like Tracy Porter from Indiana. solid tackler * (which is very important) good speed sub 4.4 * natural intincts in space & reacts/reads well* with excellent cover skills* projected mid-low 2nd rd.

I feel Center is now more of a need for the Texans than tackle (still praying for Charles Spencer). there is one in this draft who fits what the Texans do & would probably start at some point next season, then for the next 10 years & his name is Steve Justice of Wake Forrest watch a game & check him out.

Addressing the RB position via the draft depends entirely on the underclassman that come out early. not much here. I would prefer to go after the Chargers Michael Turner assuming the price comes down or wait til the 08 underclassman declare. I really like C.J. Spiller Clemson & Knowshon Moreno Georgia

After watching Justice twice now and re watching the game last night, I'm on the band wagon also. He is a true ZBS center. He can flat out fly running in the open feild. And when he gets there, he locks on and completes a block. Which for us in the open feild would be lkie Monte Python...soemthing completly different. Going to be real interesting to see what type of forty he puts up In Indy. I'm thinking if he was eight inches shorter and fifty pounds lighter he'd make a heck of a running back. The big question with him is are we going to go back to the ZBS or are they sticking with this Green Bay power running scheme with out the quality screens ?

I saw the Cb from San Jose....Jamar Fletcher with out the experence. His little body will never take a NFL pounding over sixteen games. Good nickle or dime DB though.

Well you found three out of how many over the last four years....nice job.

No, off the top of my head, I could easily name three--would have been four if I could remember the name of the hall of famer from Arizona. There have been a lot more. You're generalization just doesn't hold water.

You could toss in the Redskins future HOF Darrell Green into the mix as well.

Forte seems to be pretty good at making quick decision on which hole to hit. I like that, but need to see more of him to be sure.

I like both the Defensive guys.
I thought Morton had a better game than the numbers show.

A little update. After two consecutive 200+ yard games, Forte is 4th in the nation in rushing yards.

orr is NOT allowing 3 sacks a game. and i'm not saying that because i know anything special, i just no that no tackle in the country could possibly allow 3 sacks per game. just wouldn't happen.

Yup, cause the Texans sure hate those 185 lb corners...now if any of them weighted 176 like Dunta it would be a different story...:sarcasm:
